The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 76: The Scene of Carnage May Be Late, But It Has Arrived
After stowing Lachlan’s eyes away safely, Evangeline left the Oasis Tribe. The wandering Beastmen were ignorant; she had no reason to stoop to their level. It would have been a complete waste of time.
Her figure was a blur as she sped toward the cave where she and Danton had once stayed.
’It’s been so long. I wonder how Danton is doing.’
「Two days later.」
Evangeline found herself standing not far from the cave where she and Danton had temporarily stayed for a few days.
The familiar, lush greenery was just as she remembered it, but the vines cascading down the rock face had grown much thicker since she left. The cave mouth was obscured behind them, showing no signs of habitation.
Evangeline’s brows furrowed. She stepped closer to investigate. At the mouth of the cave, the remains of the campfire she had built to roast fish before she left were still there.
"Danton?" Evangeline swept the vines aside and called into the cave, but there was no reply.
Pressing her lips into a thin line, she stepped inside. The cave was unrecognizable from when she had first arrived. The ghastly white animal bones and droppings were gone. In the center, a large, soft bed was covered in a thick layer of dust and lint.
The warmth in Evangeline’s eyes faded. ’Did Danton leave a long time ago?’
At this thought, Evangeline reached out to touch the azure Contract Mark on her waist. The scales of the fish tail motif shimmered with an otherworldly light.
She closed her eyes and focused her mind, but the Contract Mark remained as silent as The Deep Sea. Not a single familiar ripple reached her.
Danton’s presence was so distant that even the contract couldn’t sense him.
’He ran... so far away. To think he trusts me so little...’ Evangeline listlessly lowered her hand. ’Of my seven Beast Husbands, the most innocent, kind, and gentle one has become the most distant.’
At that moment, the faint, almost imperceptible scent of blood drifted in on the wind.
She didn’t need to use her senses; a palpable malice was already washing over her.
A cold glint flashed in Evangeline’s eyes. The instant she turned, a ball of fire coalesced in her palm.
Without so much as a blink, she flung the fireball toward the cave entrance with a backhand motion—
"—BOOM!"
The moment the flames exploded, the entire cliff face seemed to tremble.
The vines at the entrance instantly turned to ash, and even the rock face was scorched with menacing cracks.
A wave of heat rolled back into the cave, lifting the loose strands of her hair. Her sharp, fox-like eyes were filled with ice.
’The target of my mission, once so close, has fled. My mood is anything but pleasant.’
Embers drifted down like soft rain. The moment the smoke and dust at the cave mouth cleared—
Evangeline’s gaze locked with a pair of amber, slit-pupiled eyes that burned more violently than her own flames. They were dark and murky, roiling with tempestuous waves that seemed to hide a savage cruelty.
Evangeline’s fingertips trembled slightly, and her breath caught in her throat.
The White Fox padded into the cave with leisurely, elegant steps. Its fur was immaculate, as white as frost and snow, a stark contrast to the dust-choked cavern. On its forehead, the intricate Fallen Star Pattern gave off a dim, murky glow.
The White Fox Contract Mark on Evangeline’s waist suddenly began to tremble violently—a warning from the Beast God Contract.
’I never thought I’d run into Caden Albright here.’
Caden Albright stared at Evangeline, his fluffy white tail sweeping languidly behind him. A cold light glinted in his amber Beast Eyes, yet his voice was deceptively alluring, laced with a bewitching smile. "So, you came after all."
He finished, the end of his words trailing off with a hook-like tremor. "Evangeline, I’ve been waiting for you... for a very long time."
Evangeline lowered her gaze and pressed her lips together, sighing internally. ’How theatrical.’
Caden Albright suddenly tilted his head, his fox ears twitching as a dark undercurrent churned in those amber, slit-pupiled eyes.
"Don’t you recognize me?" he purred, the upward lilt of his voice carrying a chilling edge.
The next second, he let out a low chuckle, his fluffy tail suddenly going rigid. He continued, as if talking to himself, "Then again..."
The Fallen Star Pattern on his forehead erupted in a bloody light, casting an eerie red glow upon his snow-white fur. "Who would remember a—*Beast Husband*—whose face they personally flayed, whose life they abandoned?"
He spat out the last two words with such force that rubble rained down from the cave ceiling.
In an instant, an ink-black mist erupted from Caden Albright’s body, swallowing the entire cave in a heartbeat!
The Contract Mark on Evangeline’s waist seared her skin like a branding iron—
Her brow furrowed in pain. A brilliant, flowing light emanated from her body, pushing the black mist back. Tapping her toes to the ground, she shot toward the cave entrance as the roar of the collapsing rock wall echoed behind her.
Caden Albright’s laughter, mixed with sinister, cracking sounds, echoed around her. "Why run? Are you afraid?"
The moment Evangeline leaped out of the cave, the cliff face behind her caved in with a deafening CRASH!
Through the swirling dust, a snow-white fox tail could be seen thrashing violently.
Watching the cliff face crumble, Evangeline frowned. "Caden Albright, have you seen Danton?"
’Did Caden Albright follow his scent here and kill him?’
’That’s unlikely. If one of the male leads died, this little world would be doomed to collapse, and my mission would be declared a failure.’
Caden Albright clearly had no interest in catching up. His Beast Eyes narrowed to slits as he leaped out of the dust, his sharp fangs glinting coldly as he aimed precisely for Evangeline’s slender neck.
"Don’t be afraid," a low, hoarse chuckle rumbled in his throat, tinged with a chilling malice. "It won’t hurt for long."
Evangeline’s fingers curled slightly. ’I don’t want to fight Caden Albright.’
In that split second of hesitation, just as she was about to utter the name "Flora"—her life-saving alias—
"SWOOSH—"
A streak of black light whistled past her temple, its bone-chilling wind whipping her long hair into the air.
The next second, a giant black python, its scales like dark steel, opened its cavernous maw and lunged at The White Fox!
Evangeline’s pupils constricted. She stared, stunned, at the massive black python that had interposed itself between her and Caden Albright.
His Scale Armor glinted coldly in the sunlight, his coiled serpentine body forming an indestructible barrier.
A tremor ran through Evangeline’s throat. The name "Thorne," held back by the tip of her tongue, almost escaped her lips.
The White Fox’s claws slammed against the black python’s scales with a deafening shriek of metal on metal, sending sparks flying!
Black mist billowed and thunder cracked. The surrounding Wild Beasts scattered in terror, but the violent shockwaves from the clash between two High-Marked Beastmen still instantly obliterated the slower ones, turning them into a fine red mist.
Amidst the dust, The White Fox’s amber eyes flickered ominously, while murderous intent streamed from the black python’s dark green, slit-pupiled eyes.
"Caden Albright! Thorne! Stop it! Both of you!"
Evangeline took a deep breath and roared, her brow deeply furrowed.
But her alluring voice, far from quelling the battle, was like pouring gasoline on a roaring fire—
Evangeline watched the clash before her intensify, every blow now aimed to kill. She couldn’t bear to watch any longer.
Her expression hardened. With a flick of her wrist, a long whip shimmering with a cold, blue light slid into her palm.
Then, with a push from her toes, she leaped into the air as nimbly as a swallow, cracking her long whip through the air—
"—SWISH!"
The wind from the lash was sharp as a blade, carrying a bone-chilling frost that forcibly carved out a space between the two combatants!
Amidst the swirling dust, Evangeline spun through the air and landed between The White Fox and the black python. The tip of her whip, still trembling, carved a stark dividing line into the ground.
"Are you trying to get yourselves killed? Do you really want to fight to the death?" Her narrowed eyes flashed with a cold light. With an upward flick of her gaze, she glared at them both, her look a potent warning.
