I regained my senses earlier than the rest. Whilst they were still reeling from the shock of ’death’. I had... Overcome it and noticed something odd in the surroundings.

A faint, black glow was present, along with a hymn. The mana in the surroundings was still, in complete contrast to before, where it was lively.

Wiping the vomit off my face with my sleeve, I turned around and looked up, at the magnificent array carved into the wall. It was the source.

The source of the black light, the still mana, and the strange hymn melancholy ringing in my ears.

I gulped, as the realization hit me like a sudden storm. All this to me, I had wondered what the function of the array was.

It made the impossible possible, it... Brought someone back to the death.

The absolute authority to bring someone back to the death. That was what the array did.

But how? It didn’t make any sense at all, it followed none of the rules of the sorcery she had learned.

Did it truly bring back one from the dead? Or did it simply transport and heal your wounds when you were on the brink of it?

The questions ran rampant in her mind, but it was too much. Just thinking about such an ordeal after having just... died was a chore.

Taking a deep breath, she simply sat down and waited for everyone to calm down.

’... I died, and I came back.’

But no matter how much she waited, she could not calm herself down. Not at all.

Her breathing was irregular, it was faint, and she checked her body numerous times.

"... What happened?"

Alexander, breaking out of his silent shock finally asked, looking up towards the sky, or rather the ceiling as his chest heaved up and down.

No one could answer him, the ones who could didn’t speak. One was regaining her calm, and the other simply spent time gazing at the turbulent sea beneath.

In the end, the answers came from a small puppy, who had materialized on Alexander’s lap.

"You all died. "

Everyone focused on him, and while they were still in their confusion, they couldn’t deny his words. The ones who had experienced it.

Maxwell furrowed his brows, and asked.

"What do you mean? "

"What do you think? They all died in there, and were brought back to life."

Maxwell was taken aback, as well as everyone else who had not taken the trial. The ones who had, however were... Shaking.

They knew it was the truth, they had experienced it. But it was still difficult to wrap their heads around it.

Festul pointed towards the array with his snout and explained.

"That’s what brought you all back from death."

Everyone turned to look at the array, which had lost its light and the hymn had stopped. Now, it was nothing but a carving.

One of mystical properties, and unknown origin. Even though it had just brought them back from the dead, as festul had claimed.

Fear had gripped their hearts, despite the act that had been done. Despite the formidable magic that had been performed.

But before they could comprehend it anymore, they heard Azmakul speak. The old dragon had finally turned to look at them.

"I had informed you all, fear not death. What kind of hosts would we be if we let our guests die? Surely you didn’t think the house of death was incapable of this?"

The smirk on his face sent shivers down their spines. They gulped collectively, and immersed themselves in thought. Emma helped Sabrina and Olivia to get up.

"Is there a limit?"

A shaky voice resounded in the air, Alexander asked Azmakul with sweat pouring down his face.

The old dragon responded with a simple smile, which gave them the answer.

There was no limit... The cockiness in his face, the arrogant smirk simply screamed that.

Alexander stood up, and asked.

"Can I challenge it... alone?"

His voice cracked at the end. Everyone was shocked, they had to be.

He wanted to go back there alone... He had the most gruesome, and slow death out of them all, and yet he wanted to go back... He wanted to challenge the trial again.

Even Kazikato didn’t want to do that. Alexander noticed their strange gazes.

"What? It’s not... Like you know, you get the chance to do something like this..."

He was still shaking, his body was twitching, and yet he still wanted to go inside once more.

It was the battle between a mind trained by Arken to utilize every opportunity gifted to oneself, and the painful memory of being immolated alive after an ardous climb.

His body remembered the experience of being burned alive in blood as hot as liquid fire. Whilst the mind thirsted for growth in an environment where death was not an obstacle. Where death was not a worry.

They couldn’t understand him.

"Yes, as many times as you would like."

Azmakul answered, some had wished he would not have said that, but even if they voiced their concerns it would not stop the dragon.

However, before Alexander could take the first step to challenging the trial once more.

A portal appeared in the middle, and everyone froze. Alan stepped out of it, covered in grey dust that he could not manage to clean.

He took a look at everybody, and instantly realized something was wrong.

How wouldn’t he? The look on their faces, the sweat, the vomit littered on the platform. With his senses, he knew something was wrong.

He stared at everyone in silence, and his gaze turned towards the tunnel. His brows furrowed as he looked at them again.

They were... honestly afraid of what was going to happen. They had seen how infuriated he was, and they knew he was mad, livid even.

So how would he react? They gulped as they waited for a harsh lecture...

But instead, he sat down and asked.

"Alright, what did you learn about him? We should defeat that fucker together."

... It was something entirely unexpected.
