The Villain's Survival Instruction Manual-Chapter 19: Spar[3]
The night sky was clear after the spectacle by Valeria. In the half destroyed platform now stood four people. Three on one side while one on the other.
This was no simple spar, rather this was a match to show the children gathered with them the extent of a Grandmaster Knight, someone who has achieved 10-Stars.
And all four of them had done that. The pinnacle of human strength.
"Severin, don’t destroy the whole stadium. That’s all I ask of you." Octavia said and a spear manifested in her hand.
Corvin unsheathed his sword while Alister took out a wand from his pocket. But as soon as the weapons were in their hands Severin pushed forward.
He swung his sword but Corvin blocked while Octavia flanked his right side with her spear. He deflected the spear upwards and kicked Octavia as she was pushed back while Corvin took this chance to attack.
He let go of his sword with his right hand and aura covered his hand in the shape of a sword which he thrust towards Severin.
But he blocked it with his shin, he also had covered his whole body with aura. "Alister what spell are you chanting for you to not join the spar." Severin said and slipped towards Alister with his fist raised.
But as he punched, his fist only met with the protective barrier Alister had conjured. The Assassin King was a man of many talents, and he showed those as he switched from defense to offense and pulled out a small dagger.
Although it was small, given Alister’s experience using it there was no issue for him to fight with that against an opponent with a sword.
Seeing this Corvin and Octavia also jumped towards him and attacked. Severin’s body was protected by the thick aura covering his body but even so, he blocked each and every attack.
To be called the Warden of the North, he had to be at least this strong. Cassian’s eyes moved with almost the same speed as the four people did.
The sword paths for each of them were so perfect, it felt like they were so used to those. There were no wasted movements in the movements of all of them, they moved very precisely.
’No wasted movements, right now I focus too much on the strength behind my strikes. I’ll have to try minimizing my movements and finish fights quicker.’
Octavia stabbed her spear aimed at Severin’s neck but he ducked and grabbed it only to pull Octavia forward and punch her side.
She stumbled forward and then was launched out of the platform, only Corvin and Alister remained. Alister threw his dagger coated with aura towards Severin which he deflected but that was all for Corvin to attack him once again.
He moved quietly and swung his sword towards torso but it was blocked. Since Octavia was thrown out and Alister was chanting for a spell, Corvin and Severin were left to fight in close quarters.
Both of the men had a weird smirk on their faces, they both swung their sword as their aura collided with dust shot up but they didn’t stop fighting.
Clang! Clang! CLANG!
Every clash was louder than the previous ones, their intention was not to kill the other but to enjoy this moment.
"Doesn’t this remind you of old times, my friend?" Severin said as he continued to push forward.
"As much as I initially didn’t want to do this, yes. It reminds me of the time when we were not even cadets of the academy. Back then only our sword mattered." Corvin replied as the image of him clashing against Severin came back.
From when they were kids using wooden swords, then as teenagers using blunt metal swords. At the academy as rivals, at the tournament conducted by the emperor.
"Stop blabbering about the past you old fools, look above." Alister said as he finished his spell.
Above in the night sky a huge beam of light aimed at Severin came down. He looked at Alister and saw the smirk on his face.
He understood why that old fool cast such a spell, it was simple. He wanted his ’useless’ son Edmund and the other children to witness the smallest amount of true power of a Demi God.
Corvin and Severin stopped while Severin poured out his aura, the blade got covered with a blue aura, he then raised it high in the air and swung his arms.
"Ironveil Final Form: Heaven Splitting Strike."
A condensed arc of aura jumped out of the sword and cut through the incoming spell. The night sky which was clear due to what Cassie did was now full of clouds.
The clear night sky was now full of clouds as the others walked onto the platform. "You bastard, you almost broke my ribs." Octavia pouted and said.
"Almost! Not the first time you’ve been smacked by me either." Duke Severin replied.
Alister on the other hand was busy telling the children about the fight.
"As you saw, by dedicating your life to whatever you’re good at and want to continue you can become as strong as Duke Severin." He said as Corvin and the other two walked towards them.
"Was this spar useful to you?" Count Corvin asked as he looked at his sons.
"Certainly, father." Ronan replied while Luna and Valeria nodded, only Cassian remained quiet busy processing information as though he was on the verge of a breakthrough.
They walked out of the almost fully destroyed stadium and went their own way. Count Corvin and Ronan went to their estate in Viremont City while Duke Severin and Valeria went to the Duchy of Viremont’s castle as the Duke of Viremont had called them.
Cassian and Luna went back to their dorm while talking about the things which happened just now.
The sun would be up soon so there was no use in sleeping, as Cassian entered his room he saw an envelope on his table. The seal indicated that it was from Detective Crowe.
This was quick, I suppose the matter was of utmost urgency. Cassian thought as he opened the envelope to find a few letters and pieces of paper inside.
