Chapter 281: Madness

The loud knocking sounds on the door echoed in the dark room. All the candle lights were switched off, and the drumming didn’t stop.

The knocking was the least of Cedric’s problems; he could not move an inch. His head was screeching, his body covered with sweat and his gaze unfocused. He was getting punished by the voice again. This time was the worst ever.

"Your Highness, are you in there?" Elias’s voice rang from against the door, concern evident in his voice. He needed to inform Cedric and the summons. He knew his master would be more than interested in the news that Eleanor was finally making moves.

The problem was that he had not seen Cedric after his match with Alfonso. He had disappeared from the arena and he thought he was back in the palace. That didn’t seem to be the case; he had been knocking for a while, and there was no reply.

Elias stopped knocking, "maybe I am wrong." He wondered. A bad feeling was growing inside his gut. Something bad was about to happen; the princess might be charged with treason, and the only person who might stand a chance to help her was Cedric, not even the Nightshade might be able to stop the summon.

Elias sighed, his eyes drawn from the door, his expression unreadable. He drew out a breath and then left the door. Back inside the room, Cedric sat at a corner of the room where light didn’t reach. His back against the wall, he didn’t want to see anyone in this state when he was very vulnerable.

Time ticked slowly, the pain slowly turning into madness. He was not going to lose himself to it. He didn’t know how long time went, his head going numb and the next thing he was curled up on the floor.

Another knock echoed on the door, this one was gentle. "Cedric," he could barely hear the person, consciousness was fading. The person knocked again, it was weird.

The door creaked open; someone entered without Cedric’s permission. Not even the queen would do that. A slender figure emerged through the entrance, the moonlight sneaking in through the windows fell on her silver hair

"Cedric, Are you in here? I am sorry I came in without permission but you have been missing all day." Her soft voice chimed, and her hand closed the door behind her.

Her eyes darted around the room searching for Cedric. "Cedric," she called again softly. It was hard to see a thing in the dark room. She matched up to the windows to pull the curtains open to get in as much moonlight in. It was that bright, but it helped a lot.

She turned around, her eyes going wide. Once she spotted Cedric lying on the floor, he seemed to be in a lot of pain. "Cedric," she gasped, her legs moving before she could think to his side.

Cedric could not hear her, his senses had gone dull. He didn’t know what was wrong with him exactly. It wasn’t just the voices, but there was something else that fought against the voice. Two forces clashing against each other leaving him in hellish pain.

Callista knelt beside Cedric, her hands shaking. She hasn’t ever seen Cedric in such a state, not even when he fought against a group of sorcerers on his own. Her first instinct was to pull into a hug; her eyes immediately noticed the blood seeping from his hands and palms as he scratched his skin, his fingers digging into his skin until they bled.

This was madness; Cedric didn’t sense someone’s presence until Callista arms wrapped around him. It felt like a hot ember was poured on his skin, burning him. "Stay away, please," he begged, his body instinctively shoving her away from him.

Callista was stunned she had frozen. Not because he had such an adverse reaction to her touch but the fact he begged for her to stay away.

Cedric didn’t even glance at her, he was too drawn in his torment to care about the priestess that was bewildered. "Cedric it is me. I can help you." Callista said softly, crawling closer to him. The closer she got the more he moved away like a monster was coming his way. Her heart broke.

Cedric’s appearance was far from the arrogant prince that everyone knew, with numerous scratches on his skin and his palms covered in blood. Sweat drenched him completely with his dark hair pouring over some sticking to his forehead. His breath was heavy.

"Stay away, I need to be alone." He warned her, but how could she when he was in such a state. "Please let me help you, Cedric. It is Callista, I am the only one that can calm the voices." Callista tried to approach him despite the warnings. She reached out for him as soon as her fingers grazed his skin.

A strong force, like the wind, pushed her backwards; her body flew until it crashed against a wooden piece of furniture. "Get out, it is not just the voice!!!" Cedric barked at her, Callista shook her, body aching from the hit. He really didn’t want her close. Her hands clenched, she was not going to stop.

"That’s why I must stop this madness," she cried out, struggling to get on her feet, ignoring the pain that was shearing in her back or the fact there was a very dark force enveloping him. His eyes were pitch black, and most importantly, the claw marks on the floor and the front of her dress that ripped her clothes.

The moment she struggled to get up, her voice weakly said, "I can help you, Cedric; stop fighting it and embrace." She cried out tears running down her eyes. She took a step forward, a black smoke wrapping around her. The next thing, the environs changed, and she found herself at Lucian’s door.

Her eyes went wide, surprised; she had no idea Cedric could teleport others. Her hand crossed her chest, and Cedric needed help. "Callista what happened to you?" She heard Lucian ask from behind. She turned around to see him, and she immediately burst into tears.

"We have to save Cedric." She desperately cried out, Lucian could not say no to her.

The doors to Cedric’s room burst open, and Callista ran in after Lucian. She was covered with his jacket. Lucian clicked his fingers and the fireplace lit up illuminating the entire room

Callista ran all over searching for him

"Cedric is not here..." Callista said.
