The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 375: Too much of a coincidence
Chapter 375: Too much of a coincidence
The room was quiet, the air felt heavy. Cedric’s nose picked up your scent immediately. His hold tightened slightly, Abrielle noticed but didn’t understand why
Kaiden’s chamber reeked of death. Was the king dead? He was still calm, it wasn’t like he lost anything but Kaiden’s death was obviously bad news. It was bad timing.. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
There can’t be an internal conflict for the throne at the same time their borders were being threatened. Darconia was over 70 percent of the continent. It was a large kingdom, some might consider an empire, and its sheer size threatens others.
The war was instigating a collaboration among the smaller nations, and rumours have it that there are traitors within Darconia.
This was not the time for the royal family to get into a bloodthirsty fight for the throne
"Guess who finally decided to show up?" Karissa sneered, receiving a stern look from Eleanor. Cedric didn’t even pay any attention to his stepmother, his mind was already trying to figure things out.
Did he have everything in place to be king and protect Abrielle? That was a question he wasn’t certain of. There was still the issue of the ladies of the moon. Too many coincidences at once.
"Is there a link between the incidents?" He asked himself.
Cedric approached an empty seat that he let Abrielle have. He was trying to understand the room’s atmosphere. His lips parted with his eyes on Eleanor who was too calm.
She was the queen and the highest-ranked here. "Why were we summoned, Queen Mother?" He requested and she even called her mother just to hold her public image. From the way everyone was waiting, it was safe to deduce that Kaiden hadn’t been declared dead yet.
Eleanor’s grey eyes met his gold eyes, she looked too exhausted but she spoke. "It is a matter that should not be shared outside this family. Your father is ill, and the physicians have been with him since the night before. I fear he might not make it."
Eleanor’s voice broke into a cry, and Bernice came to her mother’s comfort, saying soft words. Cedric was tempted to scoff. When did Kaiden hold such a high place in Eleanor’s heart?
Alfonso’s eyes were on Abrielle the moment she came in, he had a sense of relief seeing her well. He wished he could welcome her with a hug, but that was all wishful thinking. Cedric will kill him before he gets that close.
Abrielle felt out of place in the room, the silent room they sat in waiting. Her eyes wandered around, seeing how Karissa kept on whispering to Alfonso.
The sobs of Marinette, Kaiden’s beloved wife. If her memories were correct, Marinette was meant to be pregnant; no one was meant to know, but Eleanor knew and got rid of the baby.
From how fragile Marinette looked, she could guess the baby was dead; Marinette’s other daughters were with her. One of the youngest, Amelia, was barely 9 years old, while the other middle child was Sophie, 15 years old a few years younger than Ophelia, the oldest child of her mother, who had been married off.
A toddler sat on Marinette’s lap watching her mother cry, Adele. Being a mother of 4 daughters, Marinette was obviously Kaiden’s favourite. After multiple tries, she never had a boy.
Lucian stood next to a wall quietly waiting. A shaky breath left Abrielle’s lips. Cedric placed his hand on her shoulders. "Are you alright?" He asked her, and she nodded
"How long will it take?" Karissa grumbled, getting tired of the wait. As if on cue, the door was pushed open and a group of physicians stepped out.
Callista, who left the inner chamber, gaze lingered a bit longer on Abrielle before it left. This didn’t escape Cedric’s attention.
"We were able to keep him stable but everything is uncertain if he would pull through." The head physician said. Kaiden was not dead but seriously ill.
It still wasn’t good news knowing he might die if his luck fails. "Thank the goddess," Marinette cried.
"Can we see him?" Eleanor asked, and the head physician nodded before saying.
"You can see him in small groups but the king requests to speak to his sons first." Alfonso glanced at his brother, and the tension between them grew.
Was this going to be the official start of the silent war? He wondered. Did he stand a chance against Cedric or Lucian?
"I will be back," Cedric whispered, placing a kiss on Abrielle’s forehead before he left with his brothers to the inner chamber. Lucian led as the crown prince despite Cedric being the eldest.
The door closed after they left. Eleanor called out the head physician to speak privately with him, and the other wives decided to tag along, leaving just the girls.
"I am glad you came back safely, Abrielle," Bernice chimed, being the only one to welcome Abrielle. Astrid scoffed. She hated the sight of Abrielle
"I am glad to be back," Abrielle replied. Bernice wasn’t really close to Abrielle and didn’t have much to say. She nodded then turned her attention to her half sister Adel. The toddler was about to cry.
Bernice was very kind-hearted; she was the only member of the Von Drakkar family who got along with everyone, including Cedric. Although Cedric kept her away afraid of letting anyone too close.
"It is a miracle you came back safely. The goddess is to be praised." Callista chimed in, making Abrielle glance in her direction. The priestess was smiling sweetly at her.
"The goddess is truly wonderful," Abrielle answered. She had no intentions to make idle talk.
As she waited for Cedric, her mind sank into her thoughts. Kaiden had fallen ill, something like this happened in the original plot, which led to Kaiden’s death, but it was long after the war.
Why did Kaiden fall sick now? Something was off but she didn’t know what. Cedric falling in love with her broke the plot. Was this a side effect of t
hat?
How much more was going to change now?
