Chapter 437: His secret intention

Aurelius Caelphyr, the crown prince of Heliosa. One of the people Cedric could never figure out what was going on in his head.

"How did you know we were coming?" Cedric asked Aurelius.

Aurelius lazily sat up, then stretched his hand, pointing to a seat. "Please, have a seat. I don’t want to be a worse host than Eleanor was," he offered.

Abrielle and Cedric exchanged looks and sat down.

"I had a gut feeling," he replied, which was not convincing in the least.

"You want me to believe that?" Cedric scoffed at him.

Aurelius shrugged. "You can believe whatever you want. The question is, why did you come to Heliosa? I heard you killed your father." He paused, then laughed.

"I am a bit surprised though. If I were you, I would have killed him ages ago." There was something about his blue eyes. Aurelius, just like his name, was lively; he kind of gave the same vibe as Alfonso on the outside, but behind the mask, he was a worse person than Cedric, the claimed bloodlusted demon.

Aurelius was not the son of the queen of Heliosa, but he was able to secure his place as the crown prince and kept it that way by keeping his half-siblings in check. A ruthless schemer who never batted an eye when taking lives but had the sweetest angelic smile ever.

"Unfortunately, I didn’t kill Kaiden," Cedric spoke the truth.

Aurelius laughed, still keeping his smile.

"I know you are too smart to leave evidence or use your wife, who is your strongest support. I guessed it was someone who framed you, but it wasn’t Lucian. Lucian is too just to use such methods except when necessary," Aurelius explained his thoughts.

He didn’t like Cedric. From the first day he met the oldest Dacronia prince on his birthday, he saw it. The darkness shrouded Cedric in something that didn’t belong here. That’s when the dislike started, and Cedric, on his own hand, disliked Aurelius for his perfect two-facedness.

Disregarding his dislike for Cedric, Aurelius knew Cedric was not dumb. He wasn’t clumsy enough to make such a mistake below his intellect.

"I guess there isn’t any need to explain when you have already figured out everything," Cedric mentioned.

"Not exactly. I suspect Eleanor, but I am sure you have better answers," Aurelius mentioned. He grabbed his wine glass to take a gentle sip while waiting for Cedric to talk.

He was still amazed by Cedric’s face. With a face like that, Eleanor would want to kill Cedric out of envy. That was what hid under the mask. A man with one of the most evil hearts had a perfect face like that. They were more alike than he thought.

Cedric suspected Callista to be the one behind Kaiden’s death, but he lacked enough evidence to prove it.

"I don’t know who did it. There are a lot of people who want me dead," Cedric said like it was nothing to him.

"You are lying, but it is fine if you don’t want to say it. Whoever outsmarted you must be a genius," Aurelius replied, and there was a knock on the door. Aurelius stood up.

"You can cover your faces if you wish. A carriage will take you to my residence where we can complete this conversation," he said as he was about to leave.

Abrielle stood up. "What about our companions?" The others were still not yet in line.

"They will be fine. Just leave a description and my men will find them," Aurelius said before leaving, then left them behind in the room.

**Minutes later**, Abrielle and Cedric were both seated in a carriage heading to Aurelius’ place. Cedric’s eyes were closed; he tried to relax, trying to get some peace from the pain that lingered in his body.

For two weeks now, he had not gotten a wink of sleep. It was the longest he had ever gone, and genuinely, he was surprised his mind was still in check. His fingers were locked with Abrielle’s, who was staring blankly out the window.

She didn’t say a word, her mind was in the clouds.

Cedric could guess one or two things from their current situation. One: Aurelius was being unusually hospitable. He would have understood it if it were the emperor who decided to help them in the hopes of strengthening connections with Dacronia, but Aurelius was the least he expected.

Aurelius hated him. There was no reason, but he always sensed it. It felt like Aurelius saw through him the same way he saw through the crown prince’s fair mask.

"Cedric," Abrielle called softly, then turned from the window. She paused for a bit, noticing he was staring at her, before she smiled. "How are you feeling?" she asked him.

It was a question she always asked from time to time. One he would always reply to with a lie.

"Just tired. I guess the next problem we have is how to contact the healer," Cedric replied. He quickly changed the topic. He hated to lie to her, but he could not tell her that he felt like he was slowly dying every second, with the pain eating him up.

"We will have to talk to Aurelius, but I am not sure we can trust him. There is something about him I don’t understand, especially the day he helped me," Abrielle voiced her concerns. Aurelius felt oddly familiar, yet a part of her was secretly scared to find out.

Cedric’s gaze flickered. "He saved you?" he gasped. Why would Aurelius ever go out of his way to save someone?

Abrielle nodded. "He was the one who saved me during Eleanor’s birthday when you were far away in Vesper to handle the grain import."

Cedric was puzzled, but he did not voice it out. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"I will talk to Aurelius, although I am not sure if we should reveal anything relating to my condition first. I don’t trust him that way, especially because he wants us to stay at his home."

Abrielle’s brow furrowed, confusion written all over her face. "Why do you feel that way?" she asked.

"In Heliosa, the safest place isn’t the main palace where the emperor resides, but the crown prince’s estate. The castle is fortified to protect Aurelius from any possible threat, making it impossible to break out or in," Cedric explained, and she started to get the picture.
