Chapter 568: The waiting game

The future can be written but it isn’t certain. There was a chance Cedric would not even be born despite Elysia losing her memories.

Maledicta to have her perfect revenge and satisfy her ego and hatred towards the mate bond made silent moves in the dark. She was a goddess, so she couldn’t do things directly; she sent others by whispering in their ears.

Her first target was Claire. Maledicta whispered in Claire’s mind, telling her that her precious Ariel would disappear one day. She slowly sowed discord in her heart.

"Her condition is stable. She will regain her memories soon." The apothecary told Claire. They were standing outside the house where Elysia ’ Ariel’ was asleep inside.

Claire had been concerned about Ariel’s condition and consulted the apothecary. She could not afford a good physician, so when she came across this cheap apothecary, she jumped on the offer.

Unknown to her, it was a goddess in disguise as a middle-aged healer. "Is that so?" The simple sentence was meant to be of goodwill on the surface but it was more than that.

Maledicta had been in the shadows whispering. She had heard Claire’s thoughts, so she knew. "Yes, if that is all, I will take my leave." She said then pretended to leave.

"Wait!!" She heard Claire run after her. Claire knew if there was anyone she could ask it would be the apothecary who isn’t from this town. "Please, is there anything I can give her to stop her from regaining her memory?" Claire asked

Maledicta pretended to be stunned. She gasped then covered her mouth while hiding a smirk. This was exactly what she wanted. "Why? She should be.."

Her words were cut when Claire held her hand. "My daughter has been rebellious; she plans on running off with the farmer’s son. I don’t want my sweet Ariel to leave me." Claire lied sounding like a pitiful mother.

The apothecary’s eyes flickered. Then she nodded. "I understand. We mothers must protect our daughters. "

"We sure have to," Claire said glad the apothecary was convinced. She clutched her dress. She wasn’t evil or anything, she was just lonely.

"I do have a potion of such nature but it is very expensive." She admitted.

Claire was reluctant but she agreed. "How much?"

"Two gold coins." Claire was stunned. That was very expensive. She had the money but it was cash she had been saving since her husband’s death. Maledicta knew this. It was a test.

"Okay, can you wait here," Claire said. She was old already and the money was worth getting a daughter. Claire went ahead and found the coins hidden in a jar.

She bought the potion. "Make sure she drinks everything," Maledicta instructed then left.

Claire stared at the vial with a complicated gaze. "Mother..." She heard Ariel call out, coughing profusely. Her heart squeezed and she rang into the bedroom to give Ariel a cup of water.

After helping her, Claire’s heart was made up. "Let me make you some soup." She offered, then went to the fireplace to make the soup filled with vegetables and some lamb.

She made a bowl for Ariel then poured the entire Vial inside. When she came in, Ariel was still awake, staring at the ceiling.

She helped her sit up then gave her the bowl. "Please have this." Ariel drank the soup with no suspicion, every single drop of it, not knowing this would wash away her memories, suppress her divine abilities, making it impossible for Raziel to find her...

She coughed feeling a burn in her chest. Claire panicked and quickly soothed her. Soon after she fell asleep.

Claire left the room. Her heart was heavy but she didn’t regret it. Maledicta was lurched on a tree, her eyes like an owl watching everything.

Elysia didn’t sense her from the start because of her weak abilities, and now she could never sense her again. Satisfied, she flew away. Now all she had to do was let fate do the rest.

She was smug thinking about Raziel.

Years passed and there was no sign of Ariel picking up interest in any man. Maledicta, who had been watching silently from the sidelines, became impatient..

One day, while she was surveying the area, she came across Kaiden’s group and knew immediately he was the one. His look was almost divine. No woman wouldn’t fall for him.

So to make sure they meet, Maledicta once again interfered. She caused a mudslide, which forced Kaiden to take a detour into the town, and as fate played it, that same day, Ariel was in town and they met.

She was satisfied with the outcome, Ariel and Kaiden were naturally drawn together as fate played it. The boy from the prophecy, the mistake of the gods must be born.

Satisfied, she decided to visit a tavern in Vesper that night. Happy that Elysia had betrayed the Raziel bond by having sex with a mortal. She was in a very good mood, she even indulged a good-looking man who approached her.

Then Maledicta overhead bounties, the shadow guides the strongest bounty collectors. The man was none other than the guide master.

"Well, if you get someone for me, I might give you a chance, but it isn’t for free." She chatted with the man who approached her for a drink and other things.

"How much?" He asked. "2000 gold coins " the guide master fell. That much money... "Are you thinking of killing the crown prince?" He gasped, stunned by the amount.

"No, that’s not the case. Let’s say she is a prince lover. Can you do that?" Maledicta asked.

The man blinded by greed instantly agreed and that’s how Ariel had her first bounty. Maledicta had personally drawn the sketch of Ariel..

"This is her. " She said. Either way, it was a win for her. She sipped her beer. If Ariel dies in the hands of the bounty hunters, or it falls into Kaiden’s hands. It is still a win.

After setting the bounty as an extra measure Maledicta sent one of her followers after Ariel. "Get the dagger from her at all costs." She instructed and waited for things to fall into place
