The Web of Knightspur-Chapter 226 - 224
Princess Eleanor smiled as she looked at Lady Gisella and sat on the chair at a distance. It was a rare occasion that she did not have to worry about anything or anyone and could just simply relax.
’Things will not remain like this for long.’ Princess Eleanor thought as she sighed to herself. She knew that the evening would be full of surprises.
"Princess." Lady Gisella, who had a book in her hand, looked at Princess Eleanor with a smile on her face. She did not ask whatever was in her mind directly but she simply looked before saying, "I had a question that I wanted to ask you."
"Then Lady Gisella should just ask. I have never seen you so cautious of your words before." Princess Eleanor smiled. She thought back to the first day that she had met Lady Gisella. A powerful person who had a clear mindset. She could be rude and dominating at times and they both could not see eye to eye. But that was before. Things were no longer the same now. They have developed their relationship and are now both relaxed in each other’s presence.
"I was about to ask for it, but then I thought that it might be disrespectful." Lady Gisella did not shy away from sharing her opinion. She knew that at this point, she had to ask.
"Lady Gisella should not be thinking about such trivial things. Please ask away whatever you want." Princess Eleanor said with a smile on her face.
"Why did the Princess not fight for the throne?" Lady Gisella blinked as she asked innocently, "I mean... The Duke has taken the position as the King of the Angevin Kingdom and as per my sources, he does not like Princess Macy. So..."
"What is there to not like?" Princess Eleanor laughed as she shook her head. "People who like power do not care if the person they are marrying is to their liking. I have understood this. But the situation with Duke Felix... oh, it should be King Felix now. The situation with King Felix is different. I still remember his idiotic suggestions."
"Idiotic suggestions?" Lady Gisella asked as she blinked her eyes nervously. Many things were playing in her mind as she stared at Princess Eleanor. What else could it mean?
"Well, there was a situation that went unnoticed. Well, was it really a situation? Anyway, there were times when I had to sit back and rethink what was wrong with my life. After my family’s death, it was Felix who came to me and had given me support. But the situation was not always so good. Many things happened then, and I was not in the right state of mind to realize things."
Princess Eleanor sighed as she continued, "Felix said that if I wanted to keep it, then it would be best that I marry him and take the throne. But then it was him again who said that it was a bad idea. Maybe because he realized that things were not as it seemed. Honestly, I don’t even know the real truth. Maybe he was embarrassed when I had replied that even if he was the last person on earth, I would still not marry him. He is not someone worthy of me."
"I am sure Duke Felix would not have taken that well." Lady Gisella. She realized that she should change the way she addressed him. After all, he was a King now, but things were getting difficult.
"To my surprise he did." Princess Eleanor said."So I thought. He was not happy with my words but he was not angry either. He kept silent and then he said that because he thought of me as his younger sister, he wanted to see the throne staying with me. I had even asked him, what would happen to Nia?"
Princess Eleanor looked at Lady Gisella as she said, "Sir Kit might have told you that it is not me but Nia who Felix liked." After seeing Lady Gisella nod, Princess Eleanor continued, "In any case, the situation did not stay calm for a long time. It was then that I realized that his face was bad. He said that Nia will understand and it was never that we would love each other, so it did not really matter. Felix said that it was a random thought that came into his mind and that he did not think it through. I was also not someone he would like to spend his whole life with."
"The man is cunning." Lady Gisella said. "He knows what he is doing but he also does not want to miss any chances that comes his way. What does the Princess think would have happened, had you agreed to his suggestion?"
"He would have married me." Princess Eleanor’s voice was filled with determination as if she was more than sure of it. "If you would have asked me this question a month back, my answer would have been different. But now that I realized what type of man he really is, I could not deny it even if I wanted to. If given a chance. He would have married me and taken the throne."
Princess Eleanor closed her eyes, "But I am thankful for you too, Lady Gisella. You have helped me a lot even from the first time we met. You have given me strength along with Nia."
Lady Gisella was silent as she got up and walked towards Princess Eleanor who indicated to her to sit on the bed. Princess Eleanor held onto Lady Gisella’s hands tightly as she said with moist eyes. "You were the one who made me realize who I was. Maybe because we started off on bad terms, but over time, we had formed an unusual bond. There are still times when I feel that you get on my nerves and there are also times when I am sure you would be thinking the same thing about me."
"I never hated you, I was just worried that you would develop feelings for..."
"I will develop it or will he?" Princess Eleanor smiled, "I know the way you look at Sir Kit. As if you are a little afraid of him but also want the best for him and I don’t blame you, Lady Gisella. Liking a Crown Princess candidate is not good. And I understand that. I never blamed you even if I thought you were crossing the line. But I do not know your relationship with Sir Kit was so strong to the point that you had a right to object."
"You think we have a strong bond?" Lady Gisella asked. Although she could not object, there were many things that she thought were hidden deeply. Who would have known that even if things are hidden, they were caught by Princess Eleanor’s keen eyes?
"Yes." Princess Eleanor nodded, "You respect him and will never go against his words. Does Lady Gisella think I would not notice how Sir Kit is used to giving orders? I am not that naive and ignorant. I simply chose not to dwell on the matter. He is a man with many secrets and you and Doctor Raul know it too."
"But .... Why..." Lady Gisella’s eyes were filled with shock. She did not expect that she was unable to hide her true thoughts from Princess Eleanor. Her mind was filled with questions. What if Crown Prince Richard had also seen through her thoughts?
Lady Gisella knew that the things they were portraying in front of Princess Eleanor and Crown Prince Richard were different. Princess Eleanor did not know that the man she thinks is her escort is actually their Lord, but Crown Prince Richard did not know if she was on his side or on Duke Beaumont’s. ’Did my acting slip up at some time? Did Crown Prince Richard also see through my plans and thoughts just like Princess Eleanor?’
As soon as the thought hit her, Lady Gisella shook her head. The man would not know such things. He should not have any knowledge about it. Lady Gisella was sure that Crown Prince Richard’s eyes were filled with the thoughts of pushing Duke Beaumont down. He is not careful about the people he had already tested to be loyal to him. Just like her and Commander Colt. He will never question them.
"I just don’t know who he is." Princess Eleanor smiled as she looked at Lady Gisella who was deep in thought, "But Sir Kit did say he will let me know soon. I just wish he would not betray me like everyone else. He should not use me in any way. I don’t think that I can take it another time."
"Princess," Lady Gisella touched Princess Eleanor’s hand. "He will not."
"I am afraid," Princess Eleanor said. Although she had given her everything to the man, she still was a little afraid to find out his real identity. She was afraid to get hurt just the way she got hurt by Duke Felix. He was her childhood friend who used her to kill her family just to gain the throne. "I just hope he does not use me."
