(From Blue’s Perspective)

I took the sword from Perita’s hand and placed the blade on her head. It was the way a knight showed utmost loyalty and the ruler accepted it.

My heart was hammering in my chest. Where did I get that much courage and confidence? Probably what happened to Dem had shaken me too much.

When I entered the courtroom, I felt my soul would leave my body. The dress I was wearing was way out of my comfort zone. Dem had gotten it for me once and said maybe I would wear it someday. It was after I got pregnant when I said no dresses would fit me after a few months.

She stood by my side with a proud grin. It reassured me. I knew they would oppose me if I asked them to follow my lead on the battlefield, the lead of a mere human. That was why I had to do it.

I was done hiding anyway.

"Your Highness, that was… Was it Your Highness who did it?"

The black dragon made a croaking sound. It was the second time I could summon it. The first time had been where I had kept Dem. I wanted to see how much of my power I could use. Cyan said I could do many things with that amount of power, so I tried.

I raised my left hand and black strings shot through my fingertips. They surrounded the room, withering on the floor as if they were snakes. I felt refreshed. It was like my power was waiting to be used properly.

"Impossible! How could you…?" the old man who opposed me said. He was shaking badly. I pitied him, however, it was not exactly the time for pity.

"How could I? Well, let’s say I am not just a human," I chuckled. "You could not bring yourself to follow a human. But can you say the same now?"

There were murmurs again. "You are a dark mage!" someone yelled.

People backed away more. They wanted to get away from me, while at the same time, did not dare to leave the room. They feared me, I noted.

’Good. Fear is good.’

"Yes, I am a dark mage," I said. I could feel Ruby’s eyes tensing. I had seen her in the crowd. She looked terrified and I could hear her concerned tone in my mind. "But what have I done to you all? Go on.

Think about it. Have I done anything a typical dark mage would do? Have I killed you, tortured you? Have I done anything to cause you harm? I would not have revealed my power if it was not to save this kingdom, to save my kingdom."

"A dark mage is a monster. A dark mage kills for no reason," I continued. "But is it absolutely true? Are all dark mages the same? Then, what about the werewolves who kill for no reason, who run after power only? There are always the ones in every king, werewolf, mage, and dark mage, who will be immoral and will cause harm.

But not all are the same. Here, tonight, I have come to ask for your loyalty. I can assure you I will give my all, but I expect the same from you. If there are any objections, I ask those people to leave. Maids, knights, cooks, cleaners, everyone. Those who would rather walk away than bow to a dark mage who is working to save their damn kingdom should go away now, while I give you time.

The ones who can stay here, in the palace, will be my people, will be those who will follow me without a word."

The room was eerily quiet. They were scared. I could see it in their eyes. Some of them still could not believe what they were saying. I waited.

My legs felt heavy. I needed to sit down. But I still kept standing. I did not show them my weakness. I had to keep standing until they bowed to me.

The dragon turned its head to me and nudged my stomach with its mouth. To it, I was a mother, because I created it.

"But how…? That thing… A living creature… Mages, dark mages cannot create a living creature," a mage said.

"Anything is possible, Gustav," I said and he flinched when he saw I knew his name. I actually did not, but Perita whispered it into my ear. "If you have the power."

"I don’t have all day," I said. I heard my voice echoing in the room. Too much for my confidence. "Within twenty seconds, I want to see who will stay here, and who will leave. No questions. If you want to follow me, follow me without a question.

I will answer only to those who wish to stay."

I had done what I could. Only time would tell how successful I was. Declaring myself a dark mage and a ruler would cost me a lot, at least, that was what I thought. But then I realized, fear was everything. I was powerful enough to make these people fear me. It was enough.

One by one, the people bowed and were on their knees. There were those who left, but they were very less in number. Most people were on their knees and within twenty seconds, the whole room was bowing to me.

The dragon roared and flew around the room. It was a free-willed animal, but I could make it do whatever I wanted and whenever I wanted. It flew over everyone’s heads and let out dark flames through its mouth. Then, it came back to me and stood by my side. I truly needed the support.

"Tomorrow morning, I want all the senior students on the training ground. Commander Perita will train the knights and Mage Rudiger will train the mages. May the love of the moon goddess bestow upon you."

I left the courtroom with Perita on my toes. She looked way too proud and would not stop smiling. She always wanted me to show my power.

"Your Highness!"

"To my office," I said, not turning to face Ruby. Calix was there too, and so was Flint.

"Why not Flint, Your Highness?" Perita asked. "Why Rudiger? You know, he is not enough…"

"He is more than enough," I said. "Is he not, Flint?"

Flint did not say anything. His head was bent low. I chuckled.

That was when it happened. I heard a noise, a movement in the wind, and in a moment, my hand shot out to grab a knife in midair, that would have stabbed me in the stomach. Ruby gasped. But I worked faster than my old self would have.

My dragon caught the assassin who was trying to escape through the window. It threw the assassin at my feet.

I took a sharp breath. The assassin groaned as her veins started to go black. "Step back," I said to the others. They did as I said. It was getting dangerous.

I grabbed the assassin’s chin and smiled. "You should have left when you had the chance," I said and eyed the massive gap in her back. That was where my dragon had bit her.

I stepped back a little and brought my hands together. Black smoke filled my hands. As I swirled my hand in the air, the black smoke surrounded her body. Crash.

"AAAA!"

The scream was not the assassin’s. She did not have time to scream. Probably a maid fainted. I smiled at the dismembered body of the assassin and let my eyes roam around the room. Was this the Queen they wanted? Ruthless?

Sinner? Then, I would be what they wanted. I could be anything.

If it was to save my love.
