(From Evan’s Perspective)

"How did you heal your arm?" I asked.

"I didn’t mean to. I mean, I didn’t know I could," she said as she sat down. She looked confused, but only slightly. "But when I used my power, it was healed on its own. I never thought it was possible, but… I read somewhere that magic is the healing power of a mage. Using magic exhausted mages, while at the same time, it also fixes them, makes them stronger."

She looked way too beautiful in the tight black dress she had been wearing. Now, she changed into another dress, but it was really revealing and I had a hard time figuring out how to keep my eyes on her face only. I never felt that way and I felt guilty for feeling that way for a pregnant woman and also someone who was married.

Lord Luc actually helped me unknowingly by asking weird, but actually, some questions that I wondered about at some point. They were genuine and practical questions.

"How do you even have that much faith in that dress?" he asked, eyeing her as if he was inspecting a crime scene. "I think even if just a string snaps, it will fall."

She sat down on the bed and looked down at her once. "Well, that string won’t snap. It’s all about confidence."

"Do you have the confidence?" he asked.

"No," she admitted and sighed. "But I can act to be so just fine."

"… Just what happened, Blue? The change in you… is too sudden," I said. I wanted to tell her so for quite a while. Finally, I got my voice. "What happened to King Demetrius?"

"… He is too ill," she said. For a fraction of a second, I saw her face concentrating as if she was thinking about something intently, but really quickly. "I don’t know… He has been poisoned."

"Poisoned? Why didn’t you tell us anything?" Luc asked, shocked.

"Did it matter? It would only create an uproar," she said.

"How is he now?"

"Not too good," she said. "I forced him to go somewhere else. I gave him a powerful sleeping pill… and chained him to a bed, so he can’t come here."

"You think a chain can keep an Alpha down?" I muttered.

"A chain can keep a sick man down who has been poisoned," she said, "Alpha or not. He is angry, but I am doing what needs to be done."

"Who is with him?"

"There is someone trustworthy," she said.

"Who?" Luc asked.

"… Not the name," she said slowly. "I cannot tell you that now."

"You don’t trust me?" he asked, clearly shocked and angry that all he did for her was to gain her distrust. I was also quite shocked. It never occurred to me that she would keep the master of the magic tower of Querencia in the dark about something.

"Flint betrayed us," she said, her voice quite high now. "I’m sorry, but I am a human and I am not emotionally that much strong. I need some time to process it."

"Flint?" I repeated. "You said he was…"

"That bastard was the traitor?" Luc growled as if he could kill Flint in an instant if he was near.

"His family was threatened. Dela had been taken away," she replied, "by the master of the magic tower of Mazazine."

"I am shameful to say I actually trusted him," he said.

"Didn’t we all?" she said.

"We need to do something about that sneaky son of a bitch," Luc said. "He won’t stop."

"He is dead."

I almost choked, hearing her words. "Who is dead?" I asked. "Flint…? Or…?"

"Not Flint. He is in the dungeon," she shook her head. "The master of the magic tower of Mazazine."

"Wait… You mean, the master of the magic tower of Mazazine is dead?" Luc repeated. "Blue… Oh, my dear Blue, you did not kill him yourself, did you?"

"Of course I did," she said calmly. She changed too fast.

"How?" I asked.

"I used Flint for this. I acted like he was with me in a secret meeting and knew what I was planning. I got to know about the master of the magic tower’s obsession with my eyes a long time ago, so I wanted to lure him to me. Flint sent him a letter and told him where I would go with Perita to relax a bit.

Four days ago, at night, I went inside a forest away from the palace grounds and sat down near a river. I told Perita loudly to stay nearby, but give me a moment alone. I knew he would come. No matter how reckless of a move it was, he was bound to take the chance.

Ah, I forgot to mention that I made myself look exhausted after using my power for a long time, so he would not fear that I would use my power on him."

"He came?" I asked. I knew that guy was crazy, but now he was dumb as well. Who cared for someone’s eyes so much as to be that much dumb?

"He did," she nodded and stood up. She started pacing around the tent. "And I was pretending to cry… for various things."

I had a feeling she had actually been crying. Her face said it all.

"He thought I was vulnerable at the moment. And he…"

"Did he actually try to take your eyes?"

"Not at first. He was saying a lot of things… A lot of creepy things about my eyes… And, then, yes, he tried. My dragon ate his arms."

"… I am not even sorry," he said.

"Who will ever be?" I mumbled.

"I interrogated him a bit. He was very tight-lipped and he was not helping at all. So, I slowly cooked him. What I mean is, my dragon slowly burned him alive," I said.

"Did he talk?"

"… Not much, but yes, he did. And that’s the information I am going to use as I have already verified them to be true."
