The Wolfless Luna's Revenge: Returning With His Secret Twins-Chapter 252
[DIANA’s Point of View]
“What’s happening? I saw Mom storm inside her room and slam the door shut on Dad’s face. Do you think they are fighting again?”
I sighed.
Honestly, I was no longer surprised when my brother shared what he witnessed upon Mom and Dad’s return from the Wolf Tomb. They didn’t tell us they went there, but my brother and I knew. We knew about the Moonlight Mirror. We knew about the map that Purple brought Mom. We knew what was really happening with Dad.
Mom was too scared for our safety, so they decided just not to tell us what was really happening. Devon and I didn’t like that we were omitted from knowing everything that was happening with the pack, Dad, and Mom. Devon and I could help! We wanted to help...
Devon slumped on the couch and then gave me a tired look as if he was also anxious about what made Mom behave like that. Dad had his way of making Mom very annoyed and angry, and after what happened to him in the Black Forest, where he almost died, I don’t think it was helpful that he and Mom were arguing again.
“What do you think that’s about again?” Devon’s brows arched upwards as he looked at the ceiling as if trying to figure out what Dad did again to make Mom so upset like that.
“Beats me how Dad can still manage to make Mom so annoyed at him,” I answered my brother, a little disappointed that we had to deal with something like this when Mom and Dad should focus on teaming up to end all the problems that the pack was suffering.
But instead, they fight. Like a lot.
“Should we do something about it?” Devon asked once again, sounding so concerned. “I know Dad can be so controlling most of the time, and knowing Mom, she hates it so much. Maybe we can ask them if there is something we can do to help.”
“I doubt they want us to help, Devon. Just like Mom and Dad said, we are the target of the enemies. They want us to stay in this place and die of boredom instead.” I said, pouting, feeling annoyed that they didn’t want to include us in the problem they were facing when they used to drag us before in the most dangerous places in the Black Forest.
Devon and I both heard a loud crash, as if a table had been thrown against a wall. Panicking and confused, we rushed outside the room and saw Uncle Killian standing in front of our door and looking at the hallway, where we saw Mom and Dad glaring at each other, baring their razor-sharp teeth like they were about to shred each other to pieces.
“Mom, Dad, stop!” I cried at both of them, and Mom and Dad looked in our direction, still breathing hard, with Mom’s eyes wide with rage. Dad was the one to relax when he turned to look at us. His shoulders drooped as he sighed and gave Mom a look as if telling her to stop it already.
Mom, on the other hand, glared at Dad, but she stood straight and folded her arms across her chest.
“Uhhh... what exactly is happening here?” Devon asked, frowning.
Uncle Killian shook his head slightly as he gave us a helpless look on his face and then spoke softly with a slight sigh, “Apparently, your Dad forces your Mom to take you into my territory to hide while he and I deal with the enemies outside the walls.”
“Yeah. That kind of plan definitely will put Mom in her rage mode.” Devon nodded in agreement, acknowledging that Dad made a mistake by telling Mom such a terrible idea. “She will never let Dad fight here on his own.”
“Please stop them, Uncle Killian!” I desperately asked him as I held on to the hem of his white shirt.
“What? You want me to go between them and get killed instead?” He chuckled and then bent down to look at my teary eyes and pat me on the head. “You worry too much about your Mom and Dad, Diana. They are fine. They are just... passionate. You know? About each other?” I frowned when he frowned because he got me confused about what he was saying, but he just shrugged and then winced. “I don’t know if I am supposed to say that, but forget about it, okay? They are too obsessed with each other. The last thing your Mom and Dad would want is to tear each other’s heads off.”
Devon and I turned pale upon hearing what he said.
There was panic in Uncle Killian’s face when he realized he had scared us, so he smiled and pushed me and Devon inside our room as he whispered, “It’s okay. Your Mom and Dad are okay. They will figure this out. There is nothing to worry about.”
Then he closed the door.
“Do you believe him, Diana?” Devon asked as he stared at the door as if he couldn’t believe what had just happened.
I frowned. “No. And I think we need to find a way to know what is really going on.”
*****
“Are you sure we should do this???”
Devon would throw himself in front of enemies to protect me and Mom. But when it came to something that he knew Mom would be really upset about, he was always scared to death.
“I can do this on my own if you are too worried about Mom,” I hissed at Devon.
“No. I would be in much bigger trouble if something happened to you,” he swallowed hard as we both looked at each side of the hallway, making sure no one was out there when we stepped out of our room.
Target location? The library.
“C’mon, Devon!”
As we entered the library, I wasn’t surprised anymore when we saw the Moonlight Mirror resting in the middle of the vast room. The pale moonlight penetrated the glass roof of the library. The pale moonlight illuminated the object like a spotlight, causing my twin brother and me to gasp in awe as we sneakily stepped inside the room to admire the beauty of the ornament.
“I don’t think we should be here, Diana. Let’s head back and pretend none of this happened.” As I gazed at the Moonlight Mirror, enthralled by its beauty, Devon hissed at me nervously. “If Mom finds out we sneaked in the middle of the night, she will be really angry.”
“We will go back.” I hissed back and then went across the room to look at the mirror closely. “But Grandma’s diary said if we look at the mirror, it will show us everything that we need to know.”
“This is a terrible idea, Diana.” Devon’s voice began to sound scared as we both stood in front of the mirror and looked at our reflection. “What if we see something scary in there? Something dangerous?”
Despite my twin brother’s warning, I touched the mirror with my hand. I couldn’t explain to him what I felt when I saw the thing. Something was whispering to me to touch it. To feel it with my hands. A calling? I wasn’t sure. But my wolf and I agreed that we had to know what the mirror wanted to tell us.
As I touched the mirror, all I thought about was the black thread on Mom’s dress that had the same material as the map that Mom took from Purple. I murmured under my breath. “I need to know where that black thread came from. Who did it to my Mom’s dress...”
The reflection in the mirror suddenly changed. Like a calm water that was disturbed, and the image wasn’t me and my brother anymore, but an old woman sewing a talisman in the inner skirt of my Mom’s wedding dress.
My twin brother and I almost jumped when the door of the library violently opened, and we both saw Mom and Dad with wide eyes as they caught us standing in front og the Moonlight Mirror. My Mom’s face turned pale as she ran towards me and my brother with a terrified look on her face.
“Diana! Devon! What are you doing here?!”
Mom pulled me tightly against her, and my face was buried in her chest. We both turned to look at the mirror, and my Mom was petrified at what she saw.
“Do you know her, Mom?” I asked, a little scared that she would scold me, but she didn’t. Instead, she stood and gently let go of me.
“I remember that woman when I was little. She used to serve Mom before—”
“That’s the woman who betrayed your mother.” Uncle Killian’s voice distracted us from staring at the face of the woman who was sewing the black thread on Mom’s wedding dress. “The talisman in the wedding dress must be the source of the curse!” 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
From behind us, Purple barked so loudly that it echoed throughout the entire room. Mom and Dad were flustered when our baby pet jumped on them, spitting out something on the floor that was covered with saliva. At first, I didn’t recognize it until Devon pointed his finger at it and exclaimed in surprise.
“Why did you bring this to us, Purple? What do you want us to do with the tooth?” Devon scratched Purple’s fur, and then she ran towards the mirror and placed the tooth in front of it.
All of us gasped when the Moonlight mirror illuminated silver, revealing the talisman, which was sewn inside the skirt of the dress. It was a black ring carved with cursed runes.
“That is the Heart Eating Rune,” Dad murmured, recognizing the runes that were carved on the black ring. “I read about it somewhere that it drains the power of someone who wears it.”
“It’s the ring they used against the Alpha King before.” Uncle Killian added with his mouth slightly gaping as if he couldn’t believe such a thing existed. “How did they get that thing? I thought it was destroyed in the last war.”
“I have no idea how they got that thing,” Mom growled, baring her teeth at the woman sewing in the reflection of the mirror. “But there is one thing for sure here. They are planning to drain my power by putting that thing in my wedding dress. They want to make sure I can’t fight in this upcoming war.”
Uncle Killian gave my Mom a strange look. Like longing? I couldn’t understand why he gazed at Mom like that, but there was sadness in his eyes that I couldn’t explain. Could it be that Uncle Killian knew anything about it?
