Chapter 270: Chapter 270

[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

[What the f*ck is happening?!]

Killian’s voice echoed despite the booming sound of thunder above us. The whole building shook, and I steadied my feet on the floor, determined not to give the enemies any chance to attack me if I ever lost my balance and fell.

Dominic was focused on Richard Bennette. The old traitor couldn’t move after Dominic pinned him to the ground. My husband’s claws retracted, and all the sharp ends pointed at Bennette’s face, threatening to stab Bennette with them if he ever made any wrong move.

The floor cracked, and I jumped towards my children, grabbing them just in time before it collapsed beneath them. My heart was racing when I looked at Devon and Diana’s shocked and terrified faces and embraced them as tightly as I could against my chest.

“Are you alright? Are you hurt?” I asked, still catching my breath as I looked around and made sure the spot we were in was safe and no Black Claws or Shadow Werewolves were nearby. Killian and Liam immediately shifted into their wolf forms and jumped towards us to drive away the enemies that had started attacking the kids.

“Killian! What happened here?! I thought—”

[They have dark mages way more powerful than we have here!] Killian answered with gritted teeth and then caught the neck of the Black Claw with his teeth and hurled it on the other side of the hall. “I had no idea how Bennette recruited those f*cking bastards, but it was something I had never expected!”

[Before we knew it, we were already surrounded!] Beta Liam glanced at me and then snarled at the enemy that was about to attack. It flinched when it saw Liam’s glowing brown eyes. “We did our best to stop them from getting inside, but we were too late! There are too many of them!”

“We have to get the kids out of here!” I yelled back at them desperately as I noticed that the floor was about to collapse again. “Liam! Clear the way down the great hall!”

[Yes, Lady Samantha! Stay behind my back!] Liam’s jaw tightened as he crouched, ready to clear the path for us.

“NO! WAIT, SAMANTHA!”

We were all frozen when we heard that familiar voice of Olivia screaming at me with pain still etched on her face. Her hand was across her left chest, where the black veins were more concentrated. Her eyes were bloodshot red. Blood streamed from the tear ducts and dripped down her jaw.

I stared at her. Time seemed to pause as I studied her eyes. I had never seen that kind of expression on her face, not even when we were still friends during our teenage years in the training camps. Olivia was never the kind of person who would beg for something even if it would kill her. But seeing her at that moment, I realized something. She was dying. The curse had already taken over her, and she was only trying her best to do one right thing at least before she completely succumbed to it again.

“Please! Listen to me!” Olivia screamed again. My body couldn’t move as I convinced myself not to believe in any of her lies again, but my instinct was telling me that I had to listen to whatever she wanted to say to me.

[Don’t listen to whatever she is saying, Lady Samantha! She isn’t trustworthy, even after Diana and Devon managed to stop the curse from controlling her.] Liam hissed at me, worried that I didn’t move an inch after Olivia stopped me from leaving. [We have to go. Now!]

“Mom?” Devon looked at me with his trembling voice as he tried to understand why I stopped.

[Tell me what it is, Olivia.] I tried to concentrate and communicated to Olivia through the mind link as I refused to look away from her bloodshot eyes. [Tell me what you know. Tell me how to stop this!]

I saw her swallow hard before I heard her voice resonate in my head. She sounded weak. Scared. But she managed to say the words clearly despite the tremble in her voice.

[It’s my blood. You will need my blood to stop the ritual and the twins’ purification power, Samantha! It will be just temporary, but it will allow you enough time to stop the ritual with Dominic! You need to take me with you!]

Liam studied me like he knew what was going on. I expected he would scowl when he saw me nod at Olivia. To my surprise, his face softened, and then he sighed deeply as he gave me a discerning look.

“Do you think you can stop it!?” Richard Bennette screamed while he was still on the floor, struggling to get rid of my husband’s grip. “It is too late for you to stop this from happening, Samantha! Your effort is useless because the Shadow Wolf King will be awakened, and you will all die! The Shadow Wolf King will surely erase the Silver Crescent Pack, including you, from the map!”

“Don’t listen to him, Samantha! Do what you have to do! I’ll make sure this bastard will not go anywhere! Go and make sure the kids are safe! Killian and Liam will help me defend the pack!”

The trust I saw in my husband’s eyes lifted my spirits as I nodded at him and grabbed Devon and Diana’s hands to run with me through the hallway. I expected Olivia to follow. I was nervous. I threw a quick glance over my shoulder, and I hoped to see her following me and the kids; she was there, limping behind us and giving me a brave nod as she struggled to keep up with our pace.

[We have to get to the Wolf Tomb as fast as we can!] Olivia yelled with despair in her voice.

[Then all of you climb on my back!]

I shifted back to my werewolf form and waited until the twins were safe and secure on my back while Olivia used her phantom power to run as fast as she could.

I felt Olivia in my head as she whispered. It was the kind of voice I had not heard from her in a very, very long time. [I made a huge mistake, Samantha. I regret everything I did—] 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

[Save your breath and make sure you won’t die until we stop the ritual.] I said to Olivia with gritted teeth, too anxious to show any mercy on her. But the fear, the pain, and the grief in her made my heart soften even after all the terrible things she did to my family. I wanted to think she was being manipulated. Used by her father to make all those terrible decisions, and I would never forgive Richard Bennette for all the evil things he did.

I had to be the one to kill that b*stard.

We run through the dark woods, straight to the Wolf Tomb, where we find the place being shrouded with thick, black clouds and purple lightning.

My claws were dragged on the dirt as I made a halt. We all stared at the dark mist swirling all over the wolf tomb like an angry storm that was ready to destroy everything in its path.

“No...” Olivia gasped as her eyes widened with terror. “The Shadow Wolf King is already half awake!”

“What do you mean, Olivia! What are we going to do now!” My heart was beating fast and hard in my chest as fear started to crawl on my skin like tiny spiders, creating goosebumps on it. “How are we going to stop this!”

“I am afraid we are too late, Samantha! I am afraid we are too late to do anything!” Olivia’s tears started to stream down her face as she curled into a ball on the ground like a scared child. “We’re all too late!”
