Chapter 48: Chapter 48

Dominicโ€™s POV

"Youโ€™d throw it all away for her, wouldnโ€™t you?"

Richard Bennettโ€™s words echoed off the walls of my office like a challenge. He stood there with a commanding presence as if he owned the room, and me. ๐˜ง๐“‡๐‘’๐‘’๐‘คโ„ฏ๐‘๐“ƒ๐˜ฐ๐‘ฃโ„ฏ๐˜ญ.๐˜คโ„ด๐˜ฎ

I did not bother to hide the irritation flashing in my eyes. โ€œIs that why you are here? To question my choices?โ€

He smirked, the kind of smug expression that used to make me bite my tongue out of respect, but not anymore.

โ€œQuestioning your choices implies you have made any worth questioning,โ€ he replied condescendingly. โ€œThis is not about choices, Dominic. It is about your complete disregard for everything we have worked toward.โ€

I leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms. โ€œYou mean everything youโ€™ve worked toward. Letโ€™s not pretend your interest in me or my pack has ever been selfless.โ€

His smirk faltered, and I knew I had struck a nerve. He recovered quickly, though, stepping further into the office and closing the door behind him. โ€œSelfless or not, my investments have made your pack stronger, and your position more secure. I have helped you maintain control, Dominic, while others in your position have crumbled under pressure.โ€

โ€œAnd for that, I have repaid you in full,โ€ I countered. โ€œEvery deal, every contract, every cent of your so-called investment โ€” Iโ€™ve upheld my end of the bargain. Donโ€™t confuse business with personal loyalty.โ€

He narrowed his eyes, his tone hardening. โ€œItโ€™s not just about money. It is about Olivia.โ€

I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose. Of course, it always came back to her.

โ€œYou donโ€™t have to say it,โ€ I said flatly. โ€œI know where this is going.โ€

โ€œThen save us both the trouble and listen,โ€ he snapped, his patience clearly waning. โ€œOlivia has been loyal to you, loyal in ways no one else has. She has stood by your side, helped manage your affairs, and waited for you to come to your senses. And yet here you are, ready to throw her aside for a woman who abandoned you and children you barely even know.โ€

My fists clenched at his words, but I forced myself to remain calm. โ€œSamantha did not abandon me. I pushed her away.โ€

Richard scoffed, shaking his head. โ€œYou are rewriting history to suit your narrative. She ran because she could not handle the life you gave her. And now you are letting her waltz back in, using those twins as leverage toโ€”โ€

โ€œEnough,โ€ I barked, and my voice was loud enough to make him flinch. I stood, towering over him now, my patience hanging by a thread. โ€œYou donโ€™t get to stand there and insult the mother of my children. You donโ€™t know what happened between us. You donโ€™t know the half of it.โ€

His eyes darkened, but he did not back down. โ€œWhat I know,โ€ he said, and I could hear the threat in his voice, even though it was faint, โ€œis that you are making decisions that will ruin you. Do you think the council will respect you if you go chasing after a woman who betrayed you? Do you think other alphas will see you as strong if you let your emotions dictate your actions? You are an alpha, Dominic, not some love struck fool.โ€

โ€œI am a father,โ€ I uttered firmly. โ€œAnd thatโ€™s all that matters.โ€

Richardโ€™s lips curled into a sneer. โ€œA father? Do you even know how to be one? Or are you just using this as an excuse to play the hero in Samanthaโ€™s story? Because let me tell you, Dominic, there is no happy ending here. Not for you, not for her, and certainly not for those twins.โ€

My blood boiled at his audacity, but I forced myself to keep myself controlled. โ€œSay what you came here to say, Richard. I do not have time for your theatrics.โ€

He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. โ€œHereโ€™s what I am saying: marry Olivia. Make her your Luna. Secure your position, your pack, your inheritance. Do that, and I will ensure that your children are provided for, that Samantha has no reason to come sniffing around for more.โ€

I stared at him, my fist clenching as his words sank in. โ€œYou are offering me a bribe.โ€

โ€œCall it what you want,โ€ he said with a shrug. โ€œIt ais a solution. A practical one. You get to keep everything you have worked for, and Samantha stays out of your way.โ€

I laughed bitterly, shaking my head. โ€œYou really think I would sell my family for a title? For money?โ€

โ€œYou would be a fool not to,โ€ he replied confidently. โ€œDo you think love and loyalty will protect you when the council turns on you? When your enemies sense weakness and come for your pack? You need power, Dominic. Stability. And Olivia gives you that.โ€

โ€œOlivia gives me nothing but headaches,โ€ I snapped. โ€œAnd you give me nothing but ultimatums.โ€

He raised an eyebrow, โ€œSo you would throw it all away? For what, Dominic? A second chance with a woman who does not trust you? Children who do not even know you? You are walking into a losing battle.โ€

โ€œMaybe,โ€ I remarked. โ€œBut it is a battle worth fighting.โ€

Richard stared at me, his eyes narrowing as if trying to gauge whether I was serious. โ€œYou are making a mistake,โ€ he expressed. โ€œA mistake you will regret for the rest of your life.โ€

I stepped around the desk, closing the distance between us until we were face to face. โ€œThe only mistake I made was letting you think you had a say in my life. That ends now.โ€

For a moment, we stood there in tense silence, gauging and challenging each other. I had cared for this pack for too long already and I was more than willing to let go if needed, if in exchange of my family. I would always choose her, and the twins. Then, without another word, Richard turned on his heel and walked out of the office, slamming the door behind him.

I exhaled slowly, running a hand through my hair as I leaned against the desk.

Richard Bennett could keep his money, his connections, and his schemes. None of it mattered to me anymore.

Because for the first time in years, I knew exactly what I wanted, and I was not going to let anyone stand in my way. Then the next morning, I found myself standing in front of Samanthaโ€™s door.
