They Called Me Trash? Now I'll Hack Their World-Chapter 207: He Gonna Rob Them?
Before I could even twist the blade, the figure’s face contorted.
"You won’t get away with this," he wheezed, his voice bubbling with blood. "None of you will."
Then he bit down on something hidden in its jaw.
Crack!
And instantly, a thick, white foam erupted from his lips.
His eyes rolled into the back of his head, his body violently seizing for a split second before going completely, entirely still.
"Poison pill," I muttered, clicking my tongue in frustration. "Fuck!"
Can’t interrogate a corpse.
They were prepared to die rather than talk.
Suddenly, a series of cyan text immediately flooded my peripheral vision.
[Ding!]
[Level Up!]
[Level Up!]
Not now. Deal with that later.
I mentally swiped the windows away without even reading them and placed my boot against the cavern wall and ripped Oathstorm free.
The lifeless, charred body hit the stone floor with a heavy, wet thud.
I wiped the blackened blood off the steel with a flick of my wrist and sheathed my sword.
The sounds of struggling on the other side of the cavern had stopped, too.
I looked over to see Edric releasing his grip. The second hooded figure dropped to the dirt like a puppet with its strings cut, the exact same white foam bubbling past his lips.
"Fucking zealots," Edric cursed, wiping his gloved hand on his cloak with obvious disgust.
He turned his attention away from the corpse and looked toward his party members.
The adrenaline in the cavern finally crashed.
Garf exhaled heavily and dropped onto his butt, his massive, dented shield clattering beside him as he let it fall.
"Those rascals..." He was breathing hard, each word labored. "They almost killed us. Would have, if you hadn’t shown up when you did."
Mira was leaning against the cavern wall, her broken bow still beside her, blood drying on her face from the cut across her forehead.
She was completely drained, just watching the group.
Rolf was limping over from the shadows, clutching his bleeding shoulder, though which had now skin knitted with the potion.
Yenna walked toward them, moving stiffly, clearly in pain despite Tessa’s emergency treatment.
Scarlet and Tessa stood by my side, both looking uncertain about their place in this reunion
Yenna stopped in her tracks, leveling a hardened, incredibly bitter glare right at Edric.
Edric met her gaze, his usually stoic expression softening just a fraction. "Are you okay, Yenna?"
She quickly looked away, her jaw clenching, arms crossed over her chest.
"Yeah. Way better. Even if you wouldn’t have been here." The emphasis on the last part was sharp.
She quickly looked away, crossing her arms defensively over her chest.
"Yeah. Way better. Would’ve been fine even if you wouldn’t have been here."
Edric sighed, reaching up to scratch the back of his neck. "Sorry. I had some... work. I couldn’t make it back early."
"Whatever." Yenna clicked her tongue and turned away, walking toward where Garf sat. "Just forget it."
She turned sharply on her heel and walked away, heading over to check on Garf.
As she passed, Mira caught Yenna’s eye and flashed a knowing smirk, silently mouthing, "Now what do you have to say?"
Yenna just snorted and sat down heavily beside Garf, refusing to acknowledge Mira’s knowing look.
Rolf hobbled over to me, his nervous energy practically vibrating off him despite his injuries.
He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck, shifting his weight.
"Hey, uh... thanks, Jin. Seriously. For coming here and helping us out. That was..."
He gestured vaguely at the charred hooded, laying against the wall. "Intense."
I waved a hand dismissively.
"It’s fine."
Mira pushed off the wall.
She took a long, desperate swig from her leather canteen, letting out a tired sigh before tossing it over to Yenna.
"Though, that begs the question," Mira said, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand and looking me up and down.
"What exactly is someone like you doing down in a high-level dungeon, Jin?"
I kept my face neutral.
"It’s a long story... let’s just say we ran into some problems on the surface, hid in a cave, ran into more problems... and well, it led us down here."
Mira sighed, rolling her eyes at the vague answer.
"Fine. Be like that." She stretched her sore arms and stood up straight.
"Wait," I added, speaking up before she could change the subject. "We’re fine, right?"
She turned back, blinking in confusion and tilted her head, her ponytail swaying.
"Fine about what?"
"About the favor. The one where you guys saved me, and asked for a favor in return."
I gestured to the dead figures.
"I’d say saving your lives here makes us square."
Mira gasped, her eyes lighting up as she remembered.
"Ah!"
She looked over her shoulder at the rest of her party. Garf grunted an affirmative, Yenna gave a reluctant nod, and Rolf vigorously gave a thumbs-up.
Mira grinned broadly. She walked over, completely ignoring my personal space, and aggressively ruffled my hair.
"Haha! Fine, kid. We’re square. Debt paid."
She pulled her hand back, but immediately slung a heavy arm around my shoulder, pulling me in close like an older sister dragging her sibling to dinner.
"Though, what about your time at the academy, huh? Are you actually enjoying it there? Learning anything useful? And what about my baby brother? How is Kyle doing..."
She began peppering me with questions, her boisterous energy returning in full force. But as she talked, a flicker of movement in my peripheral vision caught my attention.
I turned my head slightly.
Over by the cavern wall, Rolf was standing entirely too close to the dead figures.
He was staring down at the bodies, one hand subtly extended toward the charred corpse, his fingers twitching in a strange, deliberate rhythm.
And as if he felt my eyes on him.
He froze there.
His hand snapped back to his side instantly.
He looked up, met my gaze, and flashed a quick, incredibly nervous smile. And then gave a weak, awkward little wave, then quickly turned around and hurried over to sit down near Garf.
I blinked, my eyes narrowing as I stared at the spot he had just left.
Was he... was he just going to rob them?
