Chapter 101: Boarding the Warship

Inside the Mu Clan’s main residence, in Mu Xianling’s private chamber, the atmosphere was restless.

Mu Xianling paced back and forth across the room, her brows knitted tightly together. Her steps were hurried, her fingers clenched and unclenched unconsciously. She looked as though she was waiting for someone, yet at the same time, was lost in tangled thoughts, unable to calm her heart.

Eventually, a middle-aged man entered the room.

The moment she saw him, Mu Xianling rushed forward, grabbing his arm anxiously. "Father, how was it? What did the Li Clan say?"

This man was none other than the Mu Clan patriarch and Mu Xianling’s biological father.

Seeing his daughter’s tense expression, he sighed deeply and shook his head. "Li Wei is far too popular now. Just today alone, there were eight groups that went to the Li residence to propose marriage. Even the Zhu Clan sent someone. But Patriarch Li didn’t give anyone a definite answer."

Mu Xianling’s expression dimmed slightly. "Did Patriarch Li say why? Was it because the conditions weren’t good enough?"

She had already lost to Ryan. By their wager, she was supposed to serve him for three years.

In the past, even death would not have made her agree to such a thing. Ryan had been nothing but a laughingstock back then, a name she despised.

But things were different now. Ryan was no longer the "trash" everyone mocked. He had become a rising star, a dazzling genius admired by all. Serving someone like that was no longer humiliating. In fact, it was barely acceptable.

Still, Mu Xianling was a woman.

Serving a man for three years was one thing, but what about afterward? With the identity of "Li Wei’s servant," what man would dare to marry her in the future? The more she thought about it, the more trapped she felt. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

That was why she had taken this path.

If Ryan married her, then being his "servant" would naturally turn into being his wife. No one would dare gossip, and her future would not be ruined.

It was a helpless solution, but at least it was a solution.

Yet now, the Li Clan had not given a clear reply, which made Mu Xianling uneasy. She had looks, talent, and status. Was Ryan truly so indifferent?

The Mu Clan patriarch pondered for a moment before speaking. "Patriarch Li only said he needed time to consider. Most likely, he wants to ask Li Wei’s opinion. However, I did hear something else. That might be the real reason they couldn’t give an answer."

Mu Xianling’s eyes lit up. "What is it?"

"It’s said that Li Wei already has a fiancée," the Mu patriarch said slowly. "She’s talented and entered Heaven’s Gate. Heaven’s Gate looked down on Li Wei and sent her to annul the engagement some time ago. Ryan refused on the spot, though. He agreed to settle it half a year later through a duel. Whether the engagement stands or not will be decided then."

Mu Xianling was stunned. "So that’s how it is... Then does that mean I have no hope at all? He already has a fiancée."

"Don’t jump to conclusions," the Mu patriarch replied. "Whether the engagement will be annulled is still undecided. Anyone with eyes can tell there’s resentment between them. It’s unlikely to work out. But as long as the engagement still exists, Li Wei can’t agree to any other marriage. That’s probably why the Li Clan didn’t give an answer."

Mu Xianling’s eyes brightened again. "So... I still have a chance?"

The Mu Clan patriarch chuckled and tapped her forehead lightly. "You little rascal. You said it was because of that wager that you wanted me to propose on your behalf. Now it seems Li Wei’s charm is simply too strong. You’ve already fallen for him."

"I didn’t!" Mu Xianling denied quickly.

But the faint blush creeping up her cheeks betrayed her.

The Mu patriarch burst into laughter.

Two days later, Wushuang Square in Fengyue City was filled with anticipation.

Twenty candidates stood neatly gathered, their expressions full of excitement and nervousness. Surrounding them were dozens of Western House experts, standing guard in an orderly formation. Wang Zongyao stood at the front, his expression solemn and dignified.

Today was the day they would depart for Western Mansion’s main headquarters.

Everyone knew what awaited them. Western Mansion would personally send a Void Warship to escort them.

Just hearing the name "Void Warship" was enough to make hearts race.

It was a colossal flying treasure, capable of carrying vast numbers of people. It possessed terrifying offensive and defensive capabilities, its power rumored to rival that of an Overlord rank expert (>level-60). In the entire Western Region, only Western Mansion possessed such a warship. It was both a symbol of power and authority.

As time passed, dark clouds suddenly gathered above Wushuang Square.

Everyone instinctively looked up.

A massive shadow descended from the sky.

The enormous hull blotted out the sunlight. Before it, people were as tiny as ants. The bow of the ship was sculpted into a ferocious dragon head, while the stern resembled a phoenix in nirvana. Dragon head and phoenix tail, radiating boundless majesty and pressure, made countless people feel the urge to kneel in worship.

The Void Warship descended slowly, its presence shaking the air itself. Emotions surged through the crowd, excitement written on every face.

When the warship finally landed, Wang Zongyao smiled and raised his voice. "Everyone, prepare to board the Void Warship with me!"

A ladder extended from the ship, and under Wang Zongyao’s guidance, the candidates ascended one by one.

Only after boarding did they realize something unexpected.

The warship was already filled with people.

Hundreds of youths stood or sat across the deck, all around the same age as them, all clearly candidates.

Seeing the confusion on their faces, Wang Zongyao explained in a low voice, "Did you think this warship came only for us? Candidates from the surrounding thirty-six cities are all boarding this same ship."

Understanding dawned on everyone.

Ryan’s gaze swept across the deck, and soon he spotted familiar figures. Bai Ye and the others from Lingyin City were present, along with Tang Wuying, their examiner.

Just as Wang Zongyao had said, this Void Warship carried the hopes of the younger generation from all thirty-six cities.

As the group from Fengyue City finished boarding the Void Warship, a gray-haired old man stepped forward.

Wang Zongyao immediately went to greet him, cupping his fists respectfully. "Elder Lu, it has been a long time."

The old man was Elder Lu, his hands clasped behind his back, his bearing dignified and imposing. He merely nodded at Wang Zongyao’s greeting, then cast a sharp, scrutinizing gaze over the candidates from Fengyue City.

"These are the candidates from Fengyue City?" Elder Lu frowned slightly.

With a single sweep of his eyes, he had already judged their general strength. Among the twenty candidates, only five had reached the Upper Elite realm, and the strongest among them was merely a Three-Star Upper Elite. Compared to the other cities, this lineup was undeniably weak.

What puzzled him even more was that among these twenty, there was one person whose cultivation level he could not discern at all.

That made no sense.

He was a dignified Upper Exalt, yet he could not see through the level of a mere candidate? Either that person was an ordinary mortal, or he was using some sort of concealment treasure.

But for a candidate, why hide their cultivation? Displaying strength openly was the best way to draw attention and possibly be accepted as a disciple by a powerful elder.

"Yes," Wang Zongyao replied respectfully. "These are all twenty candidates who qualified from Fengyue City. Everyone is present."
