Chapter 125: Chapter 7: Three Years

Inside the Dragon Nest.

Sofia opened the enchanted treasure chest and took out sheets of beast hide and scrolls, all shimmering with a magical spiritual light.

These pieces carried magic knowledge of varying levels. From Zero-Ring Illusions, to lower-tier spells of the first and second rings, and up to middle-tier spells of the third and fourth rings, everything was there.

These have been accumulated through contributions by the Higlind family over these years. Since the rough establishment of the Mage Tower, all these spells have been concentrated inside the tower for all Dragon Vein Mages to study.

"Roy put quite some thought into this." Udi swept through these spells, noticing not only their diversity but also the presence of some rare spells.

To make a piece of beast hide or a scroll that carries magic knowledge, there are two basic requirements. One is to cultivate the magic to the highest realm of ’Returning to the Essence,’ and the other is that the material used must be able to harbor the magic knowledge. The higher the level of the magic knowledge, the rarer the material needed. For instance, forbidden curse magic knowledge often requires legendary creature materials.

The second requirement is slightly simpler. However, the threshold for the first condition is undoubtedly high. Illusions and lower-tier spells are fine; apart from some rare ones, the majority are abundant on the market. However, when it comes to middle-tier spells, their acquisition difficulty increases steeply.

From the time Udi became a mage until now, nearly seven years have passed. His mage level has already reached a Tier Eight Middle Level, yet among the spells he has mastered, only the Tier Two Water Element Enhancement Technique has reached the Returning to Truth level.

He does have four spells at the Master level. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Although Udi doesn’t have exceptional talent in magic and can’t be called a genius, he has the advantage of a panel. Even though he doesn’t repeat skill-level grinding every day and occasionally gives himself a break to enjoy the maid’s services, he is definitely diligent overall.

Of course, this is also because Udi has learned a large number of spells and is not particularly specialized. If he were specialized, a few of his spells could have reached the Returning to Truth level by now.

Yet, each of the spells Udi has learned has its corresponding purpose; it’s not random learning.

"The path to becoming a powerful mage remains long ahead." Udi could only sigh inwardly.

A truly powerful mage not only achieves a high level but must also possess a vast amount of magic knowledge. This knowledge must be refined and thorough; ultimately, when sufficient magic knowledge is accumulated, one can develop spells that suit their personal preferences best.

Put in a more illustrative comparison, enhancing mage levels elevates spirit, magic power, and soul in both quality and quantity, whereas spells amplify these three aspects, magnifying them threefold, fivefold, tenfold, or even dozens of times over, manifesting effects capable of obliterating the heavens and earth.

Gazing at the plethora of magic knowledge scrolls Sofia displayed, Udi selected three he found potentially useful.

These were:

Water Mirror Technique - Tier Zero Spell (Illusion), Effect: By consuming magic power, create a mirror composed of water elements.

— The learning time for this spell is low; within a few days it can be learned, without needing mastery, just introductory level suffices. By then, Udi can look in the mirror at any time... And can also watch ’combat’ scenarios through the water mirror in real-time, adding a dash of daily fun.

Language Mastery·One-Ring Spell (Low Tier), Effect: For the duration of the spell, you can understand the literal meaning of any spoken words you hear. You also understand written text as long as you touch the surface on which the text is written.

— The Dragon Inheritance Knowledge records many racial languages, but apart from a few like Dragon Language, Giant Language, and Common Language, which are mastered upon birth, the rest require independent study. Although mastering languages isn’t difficult, it’s quite troublesome and doesn’t enhance strength, so upon seeing this spell, Udi was inclined to learn it. It’s pretty much a lazy-type spell.

Guardian Barrier·Three-Ring Spell (Middle Tier), Effect: By consuming magic power, set up an invisible magical defense barrier. The caster can freely enter and exit the barrier and may mark allies to allow them to do the same.

— Learning this spell was considered by Udi because apart from the dragon-blooded maid and Griffin Bley, the dragon nest has no defenses, which feels unsafe. Especially now with the black tumor; should such a thing leak out, Udi estimates that a misstep might lead the entire Tal Plane to fall into peril.

"Alright, take the rest back to the Mage Tower." Udi left these three magic knowledge scrolls, signaling to Sofia that the selection was over.

"Yes." Sofia respectfully nodded. With a wave of her pale, slender hand, the magic knowledge scrolls were collected into the enchanted treasure chest under an invisible hand, and then the chest floated mid-air, following Sofia as she left.

This is the power of a caster. More precisely, a Dragon Vein Mage.

Perhaps due to serving closely with Udi for two years, Sofia’s Dragon Vein power accumulated excessively, leading to a bloodline awakening some days ago, becoming a Dragon Vein Mage.

The spells she employs now aren’t from her bloodline but ones she learned herself—the Zero-Ring Illusion: Mage’s Hand. After becoming a mage, utilizing her bloodline power in turn granted her casting qualifications, naturally allowing for the learning of other types of spells.

However, since Sofia has only recently become a Dragon Vein Mage, her combat power hasn’t increased significantly, though her efficiency in daily maid tasks has improved a lot.
