This Martial Saint's Health Bar is Too Thick!-Chapter 75 - : King’s Magic
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: King’s Magic
“The Third Level Protective Clothing is something even our Tiger Saber Gang doesn’t possess,” said Zhang Mingze to Li Fei. “Perhaps you would consider a different condition?”
Exotic Beasts of the Third Grade were numerous, but those that could be used to make Protective Clothing were rare, just like the Second Grade high-quality Steel Armor Implant that Li Fei used.
What was more critical was that the technology to make Protective Clothing was a top-secret, controlled solely by the court. The Protective Clothing worn by the official martial masters at the various Zhi Ge Courts were issued directly from the Capital, and each piece of Protective Clothing was recorded and strictly supervised.
Therefore, the amount of Protective Clothing that leaked out was very, very small.
Li Fei kept a piercing gaze on the other person, “Then you can change the person for me to kill.”
Zhang Mingze narrowed his eyes but didn’t speak.
...
The atmosphere inside the private room became somewhat tense.
“Fine, then Third Level Protective Clothing.”
After a moment of silence, Zhang Mingze finally agreed to Li Fei’s condition.
Li Fei said, “Give me the information on the target.”
Zhang Mingze handed Li Fei a file, “Three days, is that enough?”
Li Fei didn’t answer, taking the file and began reading.
The file contained details of an official named Feng Zhenshan, forty-seven years old, who had been serving at the Court of Judicial Review for fifteen years.
Apart from the target’s basic information, it included his daily routes, favorite haunts, and how many guards he had accompanying him, among other things.
“Why does an official from the Court of Judicial Review need to bring along so many guards when he goes out?” Li Fei asked after reviewing the materials in his hands.
Zhang Mingze replied, “The Court of Judicial Review governs the law, and handles cases and sentencing. This Feng Zhenshan has twisted the law for personal gain, offending many people over the years, naturally, he feels the need to surround himself with more guards.”
Li Fei looked at him, “The people he has offended include the Tiger Saber Gang, don’t they?”
Zhang Mingze responded with a slight smile, “If you don’t trust my word, you’re welcome to investigate on your own.”
“I will.”
Li Fei got up and left the private room with the file in hand.
Watching his departing figure, Zhang Mingze contemplated with a sense of pondering:
“A righteous person from the World, huh?”
…
On a street paved with stone slabs, the shadows of people were sparse, without a single vendor or peddler in sight.
In the middle of the street stood a mansion.
At the base of the mansion’s gate, two majestic stone lions, each over two men tall, stood on either side of the steps.
On each side of the gate hung a horizontal board bearing a couplet:
Upper Scroll: Govern with devotion, stand with a clear conscience as if on ice
Lower Scroll: Benefit the people, walk with integrity as if in a mirror
Above the gate hung a sign bearing three large characters – Court of Judicial Review!
This was the place in charge of the region’s laws, an absolute seat of power.
Two guards dressed in dark black uniforms stood at the doorway, wearing flat-topped hats, swords at their waists, and their gazes fixed forward, looking rather formidable.
Suddenly, a ruckus erupted from inside the gate.
Quickly after, two guards in the same uniform roughly pushed out a couple dressed in coarse hemp clothing.
“Your Excellency, please have mercy, let us plead our case to the official once more, our son is truly innocent!”
“Your Excellency, I beg you, my son has been wronged!”
After being forcefully expelled from the gate of the Court of Judicial Review, the couple knelt on the steps, knocking their heads on the ground to plead with the guards.
“Get lost, get lost, get lost!”
One of the guards cursed impatiently.
“What good does kneeling here do you?”
“Is it up to you to say whether your son is innocent or not?”
“The court has its own laws, and the superiors will enforce justice. If you keep shouting here, you are showing contempt for the law. Do you believe I won’t throw you all into prison so you can be reunited?!”
“Hurry up and go!”
Under the threat of the guards, the helpless couple could only get up and quickly leave.
The two guards at the door were all too accustomed to such scenes, laughing as they asked their colleague:
“What’s the issue with this pair?”
“Don’t ask, it’s such damn bad luck!”
The guard who had driven the people out spat, “I’ve already hinted at them to bring a gift for the official, but guess what? These two idiots actually brought a live chicken as a gift!”
“Hahahaha!”
The guards at the gate burst into loud laughter upon hearing this, one of them even shedding tears of mirth.
“A live chicken… hahaha… that’s killing me…”
“What idiots, thinking they can make the official overturn their son’s case like this? They can wait for death for all it matters!”
“Alright, alright, enough talk, let’s go inside. There’re quite a few people today.”
After the conversation, the guards walked back into the Court of Judicial Review.
After a while, two more guards came out, dragging an elderly man with white hair between them.
As soon as these guards got the old man out of the gate, they abruptly let go, throwing him down the stone steps, causing him to fall quite heavily, lying on the ground for a long time unable to get up.
One of the guards pointed at the elderly man on the ground and cursed:
“Die, old man, this is the Court of Judicial Review,” one of them scolded, “If you dare cause any more trouble here, I could chop you down with my saber, and not a soul would cry injustice for you!”
After finishing their threat, the two turned around, prepared to return.
“Eh, brother, that old man has been here many times now. What’s got into him this time to be so furious?”
The guard at the door asked out of curiosity.
“The old man has lost his mind. Just now, he actually dared to charge at a lord!”
“Oh? Then the punishment was too light. Which lord did he charge at?”
“Main Judge Feng.”
“Ah, it’s Lord Feng. No wonder, Lord Feng still has a kind heart.”
“That’s right.”
The men chatted casually, without giving a second glance to the old man lying on the ground.
It took a good while before the old man managed to climb to his feet with difficulty, his face and hands bruised and scraped.
With a face full of misery, he looked up at the sign that read ‘Court of Judicial Review,’ then shakily turned and walked away.
The old man paused to rest as he walked, and it took him a long time before he finally made it back home.
His home was a two-courtyard compound.
Walking through the front courtyard to the central yard, the old man sat down on a stone bench and suddenly wept uncontrollably.
His cries were extremely suppressed and desolate.
“Old sir.”
A voice suddenly rang beside the old man.
Startled, the old man quickly looked up, only to see a green Evil Ghost Mask, his face instantly turning pale with fright.

“Don’t be afraid, I’m not a bad person.”
Li Fei gently pressed down on the old man, speaking softly.
After acquiring Feng Zhenshan’s information, he had Liu San help him inquire around. Although the Tiger Saber Gang probably hadn’t lied to him, his caution wouldn’t let him easily trust anyone.
Liu San quickly gathered some information for Li Fei, informing him about some of the cases that Feng Zhenshan had dealt with.
Based on the results of these cases, Zhang Mingze indeed hadn’t deceived him; this Feng Zhenshan was really a scoundrel who perverted justice for personal gain and preyed on the people. Killing such a man was indeed acting in Heaven’s stead.
But Li Fei still didn’t rush to act.
He learned that Feng was currently handling a few cases, and the old man before him was involved in one of them.
Thus, Li Fei went personally to wait outside the Court of Judicial Review, first waiting for this old man, then following him all the way home.
“Who… who are you?”
The old man looked at the mask on Li Fei’s face with suspicious uncertainty.
Li Fei spoke in a low voice, “I’m someone who can help you.”
“Help me? How can you help?”
“I know your son and daughter-in-law have killed a man, and the case is being overseen by Third Level Main Judge Feng Zhenshan from the Court of Judicial Review, right?”
“What good does knowing that do? How can you help me?”
Mentioning the case, the old man’s nervousness faded, replaced with deep despair.
“Could you tell me in detail about the cause and course of the case?”
Li Fei found a stone bench to sit on and asked.
The old man glanced at Li Fei, finding it strange that someone should appear out of nowhere offering to help, but he was unwilling to miss any chance. So he told Li Fei the entire story of his family’s case from beginning to end.
The case wasn’t complicated:
The old man’s family had been in the tofu business for generations, and by his son’s time, they had managed to save a little.
Eager to provide a good education for the children in the city, the old man’s son had set out to buy a house in town.
Eventually, he took a fancy to their present two-courtyard compound, but even with all their savings, it wasn’t enough.
So the old man’s son borrowed a sum of high-interest loaned money.
Original plans had been for their solid business to pay off the loan quickly, but unexpectedly business troubles arose, with a long-time client running off with owed money.
This cut the old family’s financial lifeline, leaving them unable to pay off the usurious debt, which ballooned over time.
What followed were six months of continuous debt collection, full of threats and intimidation.
A week prior, debt collectors had come knocking once more, not only beating the old man’s son but also making advances on his daughter-in-law, culminating in an attempted assault and the audacious claim that she should settle the debt with her body!
Unable to bear it any longer, the old man’s son grabbed a kitchen knife and fought back, wounding one of the debt collectors. Enraged, the collector drew his own knife and attacked the old man’s son.
In the end, the old man’s son and daughter-in-law, working together, killed the debt collector.
Such was the case. According to the laws of the Da Lan Dynasty, the old man’s son and daughter-in-law had a chance of being acquitted. Initially, Feng Zhenshan, who was in charge of the case, also told the old man the same thing.
“Feng Zhenshan hinted that if I just sent some gifts, greased some palms, my son and daughter-in-law would be released without charge. But after I gave him the money, he soon changed his tune, saying that the victim’s family had also bribed others, and now the case was hard to handle. In the end, they likely would be found guilty of willful murder, sentenced to death!”
“In panic, I asked him what to do. He insinuated that I needed to continue giving more money. Having no choice, I mortgaged our house to someone else, got some money, and gave it all to Feng Zhenshan, just hoping my son and daughter-in-law would be safe. After he received the money, he promised me that the case would be fine.”
“But today when I went to ask about the case, he changed his story again! He said the situation had turned, the victim’s family had bribed many people, even his superiors, and now the case could only be judged as willful murder. In a fit of anger, I sought to argue with him, but instead, I was thrown out by his men.”
As the old man spoke, he also wiped away tears.
With an icy gaze, Li Fei listened to the entire story.
“Is this how the Court of Judicial Review usually conducts cases? Playing both ends against the middle, striving to wring every penny from both parties, and then siding with whoever pays the most?”
The old man’s face was the picture of despair. “Us common folks, how would we know the ins and outs of these matters? Only when we face a lawsuit do we realize…”
He paused, then continued in a faint, weeping voice, “Is there any justice in this world?”
