29 -29: This Woman is Angry Again

For a whole week, Su Hui kept herself busy with the investigation, reviewing surveillance videos around the school area repeatedly, and even having her colleagues assist in tracking Qian Chuan’s mobile signal.

It was like finding a needle in a haystack; they found no clues at all, forcing her to reluctantly admit that the culprit was extremely stealthy and meticulous.

A colleague came over to Su Hui and greeted her, “That’s enough, Su Hui.

We’ve already given it our all.

Not every missing person can be found, especially when there are no leads.”

“I know, but I don’t want to give up so soon.” Su Hui had been staring at the monitors so much that her eyes were strained.

After rubbing them a bit, she asked: “How about you?

Any discoveries on your end?”

The colleague replied, “I’ve reviewed footage from three cameras near the school and saw nothing suspicious.

You know the area around the school has neighborhoods and a commercial plaza, it’s normal for people to come and go regularly.”

“I see, thanks for your effort.” Su Hui sighed.

Could it be that they really couldn’t find him?

The colleague added, “Okay, you’ve worked hard enough.

Go handle your other tasks and leave the remaining surveillance to me.”

“Alright, I’ll leave the rest to you.

I’m going to rest for a bit.” With that, Su Hui stood up and exited, dragging her exhausted body out the door.

As her colleague watched Su Hui’s retreating figure, a meaningful glint flashed in his eyes.

When he confirmed that Su Hui was truly gone, relief washed over him.

He promptly picked up his phone and sent a message.

Sister Leng, who was elsewhere, received the same message.

A smile bloomed on her face as she told her subordinates: “Don’t worry, the one reviewing the school-surrounding surveillance now is not Su Hui.

We’re safe.”

If Su Hui knew about this enormous conspiracy and that she had already been trapped within it, she would’ve regretted ever residing with Gu Fan.

Upon returning home with a run-down appearance, Su Hui opened the door to find Gu Fan and Lu Yi practising boxing.

Their spar was playful, and Lu Yi’s moves were rather flamboyant, hinting at a lack of real skill.

“Su Hui’s back!

Thank you for your hard work, Officer…” Lu Yi greeted with a playful grin.

Su Hui, however, showed little interest and merely said, “Sorry, I’m very tired.

I’m going to go rest.”

As Lu Yi watched the elegant figure of Su Hui ascend the staircase, he mused aloud: “Do I pursue a romance with my elder, my student, or my schoolmate?”

Gu Fan shook his head, “I think we should focus on increasing our defensive skills.

If we can’t even protect ourselves, we won’t have a chance at any romance.”

“You’re absolutely right.

Let’s continue!” With a fist bump and eagerness etched all over his face, Lu Yi realized the importance of martial arts training based on Gu Fan’s idea for dealing with the crisis.

Despite their efforts, they quickly ran out of energy.

Their usual lack of exercise combined with excessive video gaming resulted in significant deterioration of their stamina.

During a break, Lu Yi said, “I’ve been watching the new employee at the school supermarket like you suggested, but I can’t find anything suspicious about him.

He just seems to work there, Gu Fan, are you being overly cautious?”

“I hope that I’m just being paranoid.” Gu Fan contemplated whether he was mistaken about the new supermarket worker.

If the worker wasn’t involved in Qian Chuan’s disappearance, Gu Fan was at a loss as to who else could be.

Lu Yi shook his head, “Forget it.

If truly there are supernatural events or ghosts haunting us and causing harm, if there is a time when many of us become vengeful spirits, we will see what the ghost can do.”

Listening to this, Gu Fan chuckled at the irony.

Indeed, if a ghost harmed Zhao Rui, Li Xiaoyan, and Qian Chuan, they might come back as ghosts to seek revenge.

If everyone became ghosts, there would be nothing to fear, would there?

“What if it’s something even more terrifying than a ghost?” Gu Fan’s words caused Lu Yi’s face to change: “Excuse me, do we have to live in fear every single day?”

“I don’t want to live like this either; it’s exhausting.” After saying this, Gu Fan let out a sigh.

As the constant tension loosened, a wave of exhaustion washed over him.

He didn’t seem to care anymore and just collapsed on the sofa, immediately falling asleep.

“Seriously, he fell asleep so quickly,” Lu Yi shook his head, then decided to take a nap himself.

After all, they’d grown used to sleeping in the day and partying all night.

Lately, they’d been oversleeping, feeling sleepy at noon, and eerily energetic at night.

In his dream, Gu Fan found himself back in the scene of the incident, the ancient town.

As he walked on the streets, he saw the indifferent faces of people passing by, who didn’t seem to welcome this unexpected guest.

Next, Gu Fan saw the old man pretending to be profound standing in front of him.

Gu Fan walked over to ask him something, only to find that he couldn’t summon any questions.

The old man smiled and said, “I know you have a lot of questions.

However, your thoughts are so chaotic that I can’t provide the answers you seek.

Should a day come when you discover something, you’ll know when to look for me in the old town.”

“What could I possibly discover”?

Gu Fan asked, his face a labyrinth of confusion.

Every time he met the old man, the latter acted like he was some deep enigma, provoking Gu Fan to almost want to hit him.

Suddenly, Gu Fan saw Zhao Rui walking amongst the crowd, heading out of the old town towards the mountain where the incident occurred.

Without hesitation, Gu Fan chased after him, running as fast as he could, but no matter how swiftly he raced, he couldn’t keep up.

He watched Zhao Rui ascend the mountain and enter the secret room.

Stumbling and scrambling, Gu Fan rushed into the passage.

After struggling through the long, dark corridor that felt like a descent into hell, he pressed on, resolute in his pursuit of answers.

Suddenly, everything brightened, and Gu Fan found himself inside the secret room.

At first glance, he saw Zhao Rui, Li Xiaoyan, and Qian Chuan, all standing there with dazed expressions, frozen in place.

Just as Gu Fan was about to speak or do something, he was jolted awake by a violent shaking.

He heard Su Hui’s voice: “Wake up, you two slugs!

It’s already dark outside, and you’re still sleeping.”

“What?” Gu Fan gasped, waking in shock.

He looked around; the fear in his heart made his breathing erratic.

He had certainly had a nightmare.

Lu Yi woke up yawning, clearly wanting to continue his slumber.

Seeing this, Su Hui could not help but feel exasperated at the two sloths.

Gu Fan was now fully awake.

He said, “Looking at your energetic demeanor, Su Hui, I’m guessing you’ve had a long sleep.

Let me guess what we are about to do?”

Smiling, Su Hui said, “After sleeping all day, we won’t be able to sleep tonight.

I’m off work tomorrow, and it is your weekend.

So, I think we should do something meaningful, such as this…” Before she finished her sentence, she picked up a pair of boxing gloves, her face sporting a not-so-friendly expression that hinted at a fight.

“I knew it.” Gu Fan didn’t mind.

Sparring with Lu Yi at home felt like a losing cause, dragging his own progress.

Although Su Hui’s coaching was tough, good teachers create excellent pupils.

“Are we heading to the boxing club?

I can’t wait to show off my skills,” Lu Yi said excitedly, demonstrating a punch before Su Hui.

Even Gu Fan, a fledgling himself, could tell there was plenty wrong with his technique.

In truth, Su Hui hadn’t always been coaching Gu Fan, but he was hardworking and eager to learn.

He studied video tutorials, pondering over the correct techniques – throwing a punch, moving around, locking an opponent, breaking free – and even secretly bought two dumbbells to strengthen his skills in hiding, intent on catching Su Hui by surprise.

At this moment, Lu Yi was secretly giddy with anticipation, looking forward to getting close to Su Hui under the guise of boxing.

Gu Fan, on the other hand, was thinking about how to put Su Hui in an awkward spot.

Both men wore mischievous smiles on their faces, giving Su Hui an unnerving feeling.

Suddenly, the ringing of Su Hui’s mobile phone snapped Gu Fan and Lu Yi back to reality.

They both noticed Su Hui’s indifferent expression as she stared at her phone screen.

With a sarcastic grunt, Su Hui switched off her phone.

When it buzzed again, Su Hui shut it down once more, her facial expression echoing, ‘I don’t want to answer.

Even if it pisses you off, I still won’t answer.’

Gu Fan and Lu Yi could sense a murderous look from Su Hui.

Fear gripped them, they were supposed to be boxing with her shortly, and heaven only knew if she would restrain herself amidst the rage.

“Bro, do you think I should pretend to be sick so you could pretend to take me to the hospital?” Lu Yi whispered to Gu Fan.

“Good idea.

But looking at the lady’s murderous gaze, do you think she’ll let us off?” Gu Fan pointed to Su Hui, who was casting over a deadly, intimidating glance that meant, ‘I don’t know what you’re muttering, but you better not wuss out now.’

“There’s no way to escape it.

I knew the price of physical contact would come at a cost,” Lu Yi replied, looking dejected.

This was nothing like what he had imagined.

Now, he wasn’t looking forward to any physical interaction with Su Hui.

Gu Fan let out a sigh of resignation and accepted the situation, “Alright, then.

What are we waiting for?

Let’s get going.”

Upon hearing this, Su Hui’s intimidating gaze softened slightly.

However, the intense angry aura persisted, suggesting that women truly do stay angry for quite some time.

One could only wonder which poor soul had just angered this mistress.
