Thousands of Brilliant Stars: You Deserve the Best!-Chapter 222: I Need You, I Love You So Much
Hearing Lachlan Wyatt’s sarcastic remark, Iris Crawford rolled her eyes from the side.
Number Nine said, "I’ve been around longer than you, I can take you and Iris away, don’t worry."
Lachlan felt that creating Number Nine was a mistake; it was too intelligent, almost indistinguishable from a human.
However, there was a problem now confronting Lachlan: Number Nine really was a murderer, it had taken Jordan Jacobs’ life, and Lachlan had to decide whether to turn it in.
Looking at Number Nine’s face, Lachlan was quite hesitant.
But Iris seemed unaware of this, only knowing that Jordan was dead. She even went to see Jordan’s funeral, just like when Jordan had arranged a funeral for her in the past.
It rained heavily that day, and Iris thought back to how neither she nor Jordan had survived in the end.
With Jordan’s death, that love-hate story came to an end.
Coming out of her memories, Iris glanced at Lachlan beside her. Their hospital rooms were together, and since both were in a "battle-damaged" state, they conveniently shared a room, making the young nurses assume they were a little couple every time they came in to change their bandages.
But in reality, Iris’s marriage had nothing to do with Lachlan.
Lying on the hospital bed, Iris said to Number Nine, "Was it you who brought me back that day when I got hit?"
This question made both Number Nine and Lachlan pause.
Number Nine instinctively glanced at Lachlan, the look containing a question of whether to confess.
Lachlan quickly shook his head, so Number Nine stammered, "Yes, I accompanied you back."
"Alright then."
Iris murmured, "I had been meaning to ask you how Jordan died, thinking you came later and might have seen something."
"I certainly stuck to your side without leaving one step."
Number Nine said a lie without blinking.
This was also the first lie he, as a robot, ever told.
In a daze, Lachlan asked himself if his programming was too advanced, causing Number Nine, as a robot, to possess a lie program capable of deceiving a normal person.
Iris did not suspect anything but instead asked Number Nine, "Do you have a scanning system?"
Number Nine nodded.
Suddenly, Iris opened her chest clothes, startling Lachlan to the point his eyes went wide, "What are you doing!"
"Let Number Nine check for me."
As Iris spoke, her expression was exceptionally natural, "Take an X-ray for me to see how many bones I’ve broken."
"How can you show your chest to others!"
Even with his hand injured, Lachlan rushed to stop Iris and pulled her clothes together, "Are you treating me as if I’m dead!"
"But Number Nine isn’t human."
Iris pointed at Number Nine and stood her ground, "Come on, Number Nine."
Number Nine tilted his head, while Lachlan was frantic with worry, "Even if Number Nine isn’t human, he’s still programmed as male... how can you let Number Nine see your chest?"
Number Nine said quite ordinarily, "I would not have any sexual desire."
"..."
Lachlan admitted defeat, thoroughly defeated by a robot.
The next second, Number Nine’s eyes lit up, seemingly scanning Iris, and a few seconds later, Number Nine said, "You’ve broken two ribs, but fortunately, there’s no damage to the internal organs."
"No wonder, managed to snatch a life back."
Iris waved her arm, which pulled at the wound on her chest, she grimaced and said, "I never thought I’d be hit by a car."
"But it’s not over yet."
After Number Nine finished his scan, Lachlan immediately took off his clothes, covered Iris with his large shirt, and subsequently shielded her behind him, glaring at Iris, "Don’t do it like this next time, got it?"
Iris laughed brightly, "What does it have to do with you?"
"I’m jealous!"
Lachlan said through gritted teeth, "Can I not be jealous? Don’t you know I love you? Ah! Iris, don’t you know I love you!"
Lachlan’s sudden confession made Iris’s smiling face freeze instantly. In the past, Lachlan was always stubborn, but without knowing when, the word "love" could be said so fluently from his mouth.
After saying this, Lachlan feared Iris wouldn’t believe him, so he shook her shoulders back and forth, trying to shake the water out of her brain, "Love! Don’t you know love! Iris, I love you to the point of dying and not living!"
Iris felt like a small asteroid, originally orbiting well in her path, but collided by another massive planet, causing her whole world to start shaking violently.
She didn’t realize this was a confession from Lachlan, "You..."
Lachlan’s heart sank, "Iris, you don’t know how much I love you."
He had learned to love someone.
But when he learned to love someone, Iris had already left.
To outsiders, their relationship now looked so intimate, but in fact, it could no longer become any closer.
Iris tidied her hair, messed up by Lachlan’s shaking, gently pushed him away and said, "Alright, alright, I know your love, I know."
"Is it merely just knowing?"
Lachlan said, "I wish I could write ’miserable’ on my face!!"
Iris whistled, "Let’s see how you perform."
In his youth, he had also been high-spirited, with eyes that could conquer the world. His defiant features were heaven’s favor upon him, but it also came at the cost of coldness and ruthlessness.
And now, Lachlan Wyatt’s blood felt even warmer.
Iris Crawford feigned nonchalance, but in truth, she observed Lachlan Wyatt carefully.
She curled her lips in a smile which suggested she was in an excellent mood about Lachlan Wyatt’s confession but said, "Your love came a little too late. I don’t quite need it now. Maybe you should take it back."
Beside them, Number Nine laughed gleefully. This laughter made Lachlan Wyatt particularly annoyed, so he took advantage of Iris Crawford being unable to move due to her injury, leaned in so their faces were very close, looked directly into Iris Crawford’s eyes, and said bluntly, "You don’t need me anymore, do you?"
"Yes," Iris Crawford smiled.
"But I need you."
As Lachlan Wyatt spoke, his eyes were full of desire, a desire that was both intense and possessive, "I need you. I can’t leave you; I would go crazy without you. Iris Crawford, I love you so much, I’m madly in love with you."
In a moment of passion, Iris Crawford extended her hand towards Lachlan Wyatt like a queen. He gallantly took her hand and kissed the back of it, "I can wait, wait until the day you need me."
Meanwhile, in a certain villa, Jonas Kingsley held a chip in his hand and said to Hannah Lennox, "We need a pawn."
At present, the most useful person was Hannah Lennox.
Handing the chip to Hannah Lennox, Jonas Kingsley said, "I need you to get close to Lachlan Wyatt."
Hannah Lennox held the chip, her face turning pale, unable to believe these words were coming from Jonas Kingsley’s mouth, "You mean..."
"You should know Lachlan Wyatt’s temper."
Jonas Kingsley squinted, "This batch of chips we’ve replicated is our last bargaining chip, and I need you to get close to Lachlan Wyatt and destroy his mental support."
What was Lachlan Wyatt’s mental support?
In the past, Lachlan Wyatt would answer that his mental support was himself.
He was selfish and never considered others, so to destroy Lachlan Wyatt, you had to start with himself.
But now.
Hannah Lennox closed her eyes deeply. Who was Lachlan Wyatt’s mental support now?
It was Iris Crawford.
She clutched the chip tightly in her hand, "You want me to drive a wedge between Lachlan Wyatt and Iris Crawford?"
"No man can resist a woman’s active seduction."
Jonas Kingsley crooked his finger at Hannah Lennox, smirking mischievously, "I believe you can do it, right, Hannah Lennox?"
That night, it was still pouring rain. After Iris Crawford checked her wound, she lay down but saw Lachlan Wyatt putting on his coat and heading out.
"Where are you going in the middle of the night?" Iris Crawford asked in confusion.
Lachlan Wyatt didn’t turn back, "An acquaintance is looking for me."
"What’s it about?"
Iris Crawford instinctively looked towards the door, but no one was there.
Lachlan Wyatt said, "I’ll tell you when I get back. I’m not too sure at the moment."
With that, he left the ward alone, and since he wasn’t injured, his strides were large, as if he was in a hurry to do something.
Iris Crawford frowned slightly at Lachlan Wyatt’s back, glancing at Number Nine, "Go out and keep an eye on him."
Number Nine firmly refused, "No."
"Why not?"
"My duty is to protect you," Number Nine replied, "Whether he dies out there is none of my concern."
"..."
So Lachlan Wyatt came alone to the hospital’s inpatient building at night, and sure enough, there was a person standing in the rain with an umbrella.
That familiar face made Lachlan Wyatt squint his eyes.
"How should I address you?"
Lachlan Wyatt spoke, his voice colder than the rain, "My sister?"
Hannah Lennox stood in the rain, her face pale, her expression somewhat painful, "If you’re unwilling, you don’t have to call me that."
After all, she had entered the Wyatt Family because her mother became Hugh Wyatt’s mistress. She didn’t know if she was Hugh Wyatt’s fourth illegitimate daughter or whether her mother lied to Hugh Wyatt.
Hannah Lennox pursed her lips, "Just call me Hannah Lennox now, I got in touch because I have something to give you."
Lachlan Wyatt sneered, "There’s nothing I want to exchange with you."
"Not even the chip?"
Hannah Lennox raised her hand, revealing a small chip.
That chip, after being replicated by Jonas Kingsley and sold abroad, was the result of Lachlan Wyatt and the entire company’s hard work.
Lachlan Wyatt’s expression changed slightly, "What do you mean?"
"I’m here to return this to you."
Hannah Lennox didn’t care whether Lachlan Wyatt wanted it or not; she stepped forward and stuffed the chip into his hand, "This belongs to you, and now it’s back to its rightful owner. What happens next has nothing to do with me."
"You went through all the trouble to steal and replicate it from me, and now you return it?"
Lachlan Wyatt tossed the chip into the rain, as if in disdain, "What trick are you playing now?"
The chip drew an arc in mid-air and fell to the ground, scaring Hannah Lennox into dropping her umbrella. Her face was pale as she searched for it, getting drenched as she crouched in the rain. Finally finding the chip, she stood up and said, "I stole this from Jonas Kingsley. I... I just felt I had to do something."
Lachlan Wyatt stood still, his striking features cold and detached, "What do you mean?"
"I betrayed Jonas Kingsley and escaped..." Hannah Lennox approached, close to Lachlan Wyatt’s chest, "I... am homeless. I thought maybe by bringing this back to you, I could make amends. Could you... allow me to stay?"
