Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 64: Taking Off the Blindfold
Lilith’s POV
I grew up in the Night claw pack and was chosen as a helper for the former Luna when I was fifteen years old.
I started training and did courses that allowed me to gain skills in management.
Even though I was never involved in business, I have worked under Lady Bernice for years and managed her duties as the Luna with great efficiency.
I have seen Valerie many times over the years. She was that one outcast that the entire pack could humiliate and trample on just for entertainment.
I never joined those mistreating her because I always thought it was just them projecting their insecurities and feeling inferior.
They were treating her that way to feel better about themselves because they weren’t as good as her.
However, I was always scared of the masses, so I never helped either.
But now watching her talking in such a clear and logical manner.
She is completely different from that slave everyone humiliated.
She is a strong woman who could bring change to the pack that rejected her.
When Lady Bernice asked me to come and assist her when she became the new Luna, I thought I was being demoted, but I always believe that I should do everything I am supposed to with all my dedication.
If it fails, it should not fail because of me. Because I didn’t put in enough effort.
So, unlike Janice who showed prejudice from the first moment we met the Luna, I chose to do my job like I am supposed to.
And I am glad it is paying off now.
Others might not notice it, but I work around Valerie everyday both as her maid and now her assistant.
She is a great woman with a lot of wisdom. And she didn’t seem to be very concerned about anything within the pack.
She doesn’t even seem to care about her mate, Alpha Mike.
While others see Alpha Mike as a great catch and would kill to be his mate, Valerie seemed unconcerned about it. In fact, she seems to hate the mate bond.
But who could blame her?
Mike has been one of her top tormentors in the pack.
Now that they were fated mates, anyone would find it hard to accept.
As I stood in front of Valerie today and listened to the way she analyzed the pack, I realized that she is a genius.
She may be young, but her wisdom and knowledge are not shallow.
Also, the way she was fighting for those women, some of whom had been among those involved in her mistreatment surprised me.
Someone so magnanimous would definitely achieve great things.
"I don’t understand."
I said in confusion after listening to Valerie tell me about what role the women abandoned within the pack could play as weapons.
"Think about it. If the men in this pack want to suppress their mates, it means those mates have influence," She explained.
I still didn’t get it even though I have been beside Lady Bernice for years and believe that I know politics more than other girls even in the surrounding packs.
"Influence?" I didn’t understand.
How could those women who have been reduced to shadows of their former selves have any influence?
"Yes, influence." Valerie crossed her arms as she said this.
"Think about it. Warriors fight battles, but they spend most of their time training or patrolling. Executives manage businesses, but their attention is focused on profits and politics."
I nodded even though I still didn’t get it.
"But what about the women?"
She asked again.
And I was stumped.
"Women mostly just stay at home and take care of the house and the pups." I said without thinking because that is indeed what most of the women in the pack do.
And this is not limited to those who married in. Even some of those who found their mates within the pack are the same, but they seem to have more freedom than those who came from other packs.
"Exactly. Women stay home and take care of the house and the pups. And do you know what that means?" Valerie asked again and by this time I was feeling stupid and questioning my education.
How could I not even be able to guess her thoughts even after she has given me so much information?
"I don’t, please enlighten me, Luna." I bowed slightly.
"They are the ones raising the next generation. The next generation of leaders. And the next generation that will shape the future of the pack." Valerie said then raised an eyebrow at me and I finally caught on.
The people in the pack are afraid. Afraid that these women would raise their children with loyalty to their previous packs.
So, the Night claw pack does everything it could to crash them early on to prevent this. If the children grow up seeing their mothers treated like disposable doormats, they would never see strength in where they were raised. They would think that other packs are weaklings and the Night claw pack was the strongest.
Now that the Luna mentioned it, the reputation that the pack has built over decades as one of the strongest packs may not be the truth.
If it faced a real threat, it would crumble like a sand castle.
Many packs fear it for its reputation, but what if a brave pack decides to attack some day?
The warriors are no longer as strong as they used to be when they were trained by Valerie’s father, Mr. Jude.
Just thinking about this made me shudder.
"If those women regain their confidence, their independence... their children will grow up seeing a different model of life. They will grow up knowing that their mothers are strong, meaning that the packs that raised them are just as strong. In that case, Night claw pack’s position will fall. The pack uses oppression to highlight its power. What if that was taken away?"
Valerie kept going and I started questioning whether she was trying to help the pack or undermine it?
However, that is not my problem. I am just a small fry in this game. So, I will just do what I am supposed to do.
I didn’t ask anymore questions. I picked up my tablet and left the room, heading to the archive.
