Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 66: Alma
From her appearance alone, the old woman looked frail, but as an alpha king, I could sense the strong wolf she possessed. So, there was no way she was as weak as she appeared.
"Greetings, King. My name is Alma. I have been a member of the Night claw pack for four decades and I am here to request a reinvestigation of a case that happened eight years ago."
She spoke confidently and she didn’t flinch even when I looked straight at her. She was not intimidated by the alpha coercion even though I didn’t use any.
"What case and why do you want it to be reinvestigated?" I asked seriously because any case that could raise concerns after nearly a decade wouldn’t be simple.
"It is the betrayal case of Jude Smith. The strongest warrior of the Night claw pack. Eight years ago, the pack was attacked and the battle led to the loss of some lives.
Just like usual, Mr. Jude fought bravely and killed most of the invaders and drove the rest away. However, the next day, he was accused of being a traitor. Overwhelming evidence showed that he had betrayed the pack and let those attackers in, causing many to die. He was executed for his ’crimes’. His mate died of grief a month later leaving their only daughter behind, who was only ten years old at the time. The pack prejudiced against her because of the title of a traitor’s daughter, turned her into a slave everyone could abuse. However, it is time for the truth to come out. Please investigate this case again. Find out who framed Mr. Jude and why because it is related to the survival of the werewolf race." The old woman spoke without pause for a long time before stopping.
I listened carefully to each word and was surprised by her last statement.
I know about the case she was talking about. I heard about it before and before I could get involved with the law enforcement, I received the evidence that showed that the accused had indeed committed the crime. By that time, he had already been executed, so I didn’t bother again. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
But now, I was being told that he was framed and that it was related to the survival of the werewolf race. What exactly was going on?
"Do you have evidence that he was framed or why do you think so? Also, what is this about the survival of the werewolf race? You also mentioned before you were brought in that it also had to do with my fate. What does that mean?"
I need to understand the situation clearly. I cannot dismiss such a claim, but I cannot also take it lightly.
"My king, you must know about the prophecy, right?" She asked all of a sudden and I was shocked.
I always thought that only my father and I knew the prophecy, I didn’t expect there to be a third person.
Since I want to get to the bottom of the issue, I didn’t pretend I couldn’t understand.
I answered straightforwardly, "Yes, I know. What does it have to do with this case?" I asked tentatively.
"Everything." She said directly.
"That prophecy isn’t as hidden as you might think. However, different people know different versions and those who know at the Night claw pack are ruthless people who would do anything for power. To rule. Their version says that whoever can mate with the chosen one, will rule. And from God knows where, they found some aura of the chosen one and have been using it to sense for their arrival. Anyone stained with that aura is seen as a threat and eliminated. I believe that it is not only Night claw pack with such methods. Jude Smith just happened to be stained by the aura of the chosen one and was perceived as a threat, especially with his superior warrior skills that could rival an alpha. So, he had to be eliminated." The old woman said so many shocking things that it took me a long time to recover.
It seems that even as the King, I only know the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this prophecy.
"So, you are saying that the pack attack eight years ago was a set-up put together just to frame Mr. Jude and kill him to eliminate a threat because he had the aura of the chosen one on him?" This was indeed shocking.
"Yes. They didn’t know who the chosen one was and assumed she or he must be someone Jude had come into contact with and if he succeeded in winning them over, then he would gain power and they would be beneath him. Besides, they want that power for themselves. How could they allow competition to exist?" The old woman spoke again and I was getting more and more intrigued.
I hadn’t noticed that in the werewolf kingdom I have ruled for so long, such treacherous things exist.
"Why do you know so much? By appearance, no one would suspect you know so much?" I like being straightforward, so I was very blunt.
The old woman chuckled when she heard the question.
"Because my duty is to stay invisible and protect the chosen one while she is defenseless. However, now that she has awakened, my duty is done. I chose to come just to help her with some trivial matters." The old woman said, shocking me so much that I shot up to my feet.
Was she saying what I think she was saying?
The fated one I have been waiting for for over two hundred years is finally here?
I heard her chuckle at my reaction and I could feel my face going stiff due to embarrassment.
I hadn’t acted like a king there but no one could blame me.
After hundreds of years of waiting, I finally have my mate.
"Where is she?" I couldn’t wait to go find her and bring her back.
