Three Alphas, Fated To One, Played By One, But Mated To One-Chapter 70: Interruption
Karl’s POV
I walked out of the pack house and nearly went crazy when I saw a huge man trying to beat up Valerie.
I hadn’t seen her in over a week since she seems to be quite busy lately.
I am also preparing to go back to my Bloodfang pack for my Alpha ascension ceremony.
So, I have been doing a lot.
Today, I felt suffocated and wanted to go out to the pack training ground and blow some steam.
I didn’t expect to come across such an audacious person the moment I walked out.
How dare they touch Valerie? How dare they touch my chosen prey? Even though I have no real feelings for her and I have to pretend to be in love with her to get what I want, she is still mine to protect.
How dare a regular werewolf touch her?
"Alpha Karl!" Several surprised voices greeted me in unison.
Valerie turned around to look at me and I felt as if I was hallucinating because I saw disappointment on her face.
Her expression seemed to tell me that I had screwed up her good thing, but I couldn’t understand what was so good about that situation earlier.
Someone was disrespectful to her and was trying to hurt her. Why would she be disappointed when I stopped it?
"Hey Karl." She greeted me with a sweet smile that completely dispelled my doubts.
"Hey beautiful." I greeted her back and a familiar sensation in my chest surfaced again.
These days, whenever Valerie looks at me, my heart would beat at an abnormal rhythm, which confused me.
But just like before, I ignored that feeling.
It wasn’t important since it wasn’t affecting my daily life.
"Going out for training?" I ignored everyone else and asked Valerie.
She was so beautiful. Since she was officially acknowledged as the Luna, she had changed a lot.
Her body had gained some flesh and it looked so appealing I was dying to take off her clothes and make her mine immediately.
However, I know that I should be patient. Since I cast a long net to catch her, I shouldn’t ruin it now after three years.
Even though she is Mike’s fated mate, he doesn’t have much of a chance with her because of their sour history.
Now looking at the curves that have started to show on her body, I couldn’t help feeling my throat go dry, but I had to control myself.
I couldn’t let her know my real motive.
"I won’t join the regular training today. Since I am starting again after eight years, I will start with easy exercises to get my body used to the intensity before I start the real training." Valerie smiled at me, making me want to gather her in my arms.
However, with so many people around, I had to show some restraint.
My gaze finally shifted away from her and landed on the man who had been about to strike her.
Boris.
I knew him. One of the warriors who relied more on brute strength than intelligence. The kind of man who liked to throw his weight around because he believed muscles made him important.
I never got involved in the affairs of the pack before. After all, I am still the young alpha of another pack even though I was in the Night claw pack for exchange training.
I couldn’t get involved in its politics like I would in my own territory.
Boris had lowered his hand the moment he realized who had interrupted his actions.
"Alpha Karl... I..." he stammered.
His aggressive posture had disappeared completely.
Coward.
"What exactly were you about to do?" I asked calmly, but my voice carried enough authority to make several of the warriors step back instinctively.
No one answered. Even Boris lowered his head in submission.
Everyone in the pack knew that Valerie was my friend and whenever I am around, even when she was treated like a slave, no one would have dared to touch her.
So, now they would be even more wary.
Their eyes kept moving between Valerie and me.
I could almost hear the thoughts racing through their heads.
Why did I always defend her? Why did I care so much?
Of course, I couldn’t just tell them that Mike and I had a bet and Valerie was the prize, right? Especially now that she was Luna and her abilities seem to be growing.
Boris cleared his throat and straightened his back, trying to regain some dignity.
"She was interfering in pack matters," he said stiffly. "She’s been poisoning our mates with ideas about independence."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Poisoning?"
My tone was calm, but the sarcasm was obvious.
However, Boris didn’t seem to notice as he nodded his head in agreement.
"Yes. She’s been encouraging the women to disobey their mates."
Several of the other warriors murmured in agreement.
I looked at Valerie again.
She was watching the whole scene quietly, her arms folded across her chest as if the whole issue had nothing to do with her and she was just a spectator.
What surprised me even more was that she didn’t look afraid.
Not even a little.
Someone who has been through torture for years like she has would flinch reflexively when someone threatened her with physical force.
However, even though Boris had tried to hit her, she didn’t even flinch. She wasn’t afraid at all.
This was indeed a surprise.
Interesting.
"Is that true?" I asked her with a raised eyebrow.
I wanted to know if she was still the friend who I have known for three years. The straightforward girl who accepted me as a friend so easily just because I showed her a little kindness.
Valerie shrugged slightly.
"I only reminded them that they are allowed to have lives of their own."
Her answer was very simple, but the reaction it caused among the warriors was immediate and aggressive.
"That’s exactly the problem!" one of them shouted.
