Timeless Hunter: Blood Of Old-Chapter 28: Recognition
Akaris was taken by surprise, she had actually managed to dodge an arrow moving at the speed of sound.
That on top of him using future sight to predict where sheโll be thus catching her off guard. ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ธ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ต.๐ฌ๐ค๐ข
However he didnโt understand the shock she was feeling right now as well, not only was that arrow fast he had managed to predict exactly where sheโll be.
That move, moving her head so fast had rattled her brain making her dizzy so when she landed on the ground she rolled.
Akaris had frozen in surprise this failing to take advantage of the opportunity but he promised not to make that mistake again.
" I have to say shell choker, youโre more impressive than I gave you credit for" she shouted through the darkness of the knight.
" Youโre still intend to keep up the facade? Fine then, youโll die a liar you dumb mole rat" He shot another mana arrow at her.
She moved before he could fire the arrow but he had used future sight, unfortunately he wasnโt fast enough to make another arrow.
However he did nock a wood arrow and shot it where she was going to be, he used future sight in intervals to predict any chances in her movements.
The arrow was not as fast as a mana arrow making it easier for her to dodge, but just as she was spinning mid air he shot two more arrows at once.
Athletic and fast as she was she couldnโt dodge in that position. Clang clang, she deflected both arrows with her claws.
Akaris nocked another two arrows, she kicked off a tree and lunged at him like a blur.
"Echoes of old." He used the skill for the first time, the muscular kobold appeared Infront of him.
It looked exactly as it did when it was still alive except it didnโt have it shield as he had expected.
" Fuck." He cursed but he shouldโve expected that, the shield was not part of the kobold but an external weapon.
Using future sight he was able to see all of her movements moments before she even moved.
He adjusted his arm accordingly, however he had underestimated her. It was as if she also had foresight.
She managed to deflect all of his arrows, her body moved in a split moment before the arrow hits.
Even though he could see her movements before her, her senses and speed still allowed her to react in time.
The worst part was that he also saw her deflect and dodge his arrows but he couldnโt figure out a way to actually hit her.
She was too fast, much faster than he was in terms of pure speed but her body was also enhanced by mana.
She ran on all four jumping towards him, Akaris infused his body with mana then jumped back and retreated while shooting arrows.
However he was running out and infused mana into the quiver to speed up the creation of new arrows.
The kobold echo jumped forward to intercept her, she growled like a cat and pounced on it.
It punched with it massive scaly fist, her tiny body twisted in the air and she landed on it shoulders.
Her hands turned into blurs and slashed it body into a mangled mess. The echo disappeared into light particles.
He felt his connection towards it inside him, he knew it was regenerating. He frowned, she was too close for his arrows to work nor did he have time to retreat.
He hanged his body and pulled out his sword and faced her, he infused his body with mana and took a fighting stance.
" Quite brave of you stupid face to face me, now die." She jumped side to side on all fours with her tail dancing behind her.
Then she jumped up and aimed her claws for his throat. He took a deep breath, using future sight drained too much mana so he didnโt use it, not yet.
Instead he used the active form of hawk eyes, his eyesight grew much more powerful and the world seemed to slow down to his eyes.
He saw every move of her as clearly as day, her claws glowed with blue light as they cut through the air.
He raised his sword to meet them, the sound of clashing metal echoed through the night sky.
He was pushed back two steps but managed to deflect her attack, she spun while mid air and kicked him.
He grabbed her leg and slammed her on the ground, she twisted and used her hand to balance herself then kicked his face with the other foot.
He bent backwards dodging the kick then followed with his own, with a twist of her leg she forced him to let her go and she retreated.
They lunged at each other like blurs, the collision of sword and claws created sparks in the night sky which drew the attention of other monsters.
" Are you hoping for your friends to come to your rescue like the little bitch you are? " She asked as she lunged at him again.
Akaris used future sight again, like the last time he was cutting the second into fragments.
He realised with the speed of his enemies which was far beyond that of a human, a lot could happen in a second.
However something unexpected happened, his future sight lagged. The mana seemed stuck somewhere and didnโt reach the skill.
It activated but instead of seeing the future he saw two projections of the present overlapping.
This was even more disorienting catching him off guard. Her kick landed on his chest sending him flying back over 10 metres away.
He collided with the building wall and came to a stop. She stopped at as well, " What was that?" She asked.
" I donโt know, should we continue?" He asked her back and she shook her head.
" No, this is boring now, besides we still have that boss to deal with." He nodded.
" When did you figure out it was me?" He suddenly asked her and she grinned but her grinn held a dangerous glint.
" When you called me mole rat, only one asshole dared to call me that." She clicked her tongue.
He named her that after he saw he mole on her butt, it was an embarrassing name but he insisted on using it.
" Let me guess, you figured it out when I called you shell choker?" Akaris nodded, he was allergic to oisters.
The first time he tried one he almost choked to death, not because it was stuck in his throat.
His throat had actually swollen up like a balloon, after that incident she called him shell choker anytime they were alone.
That was actually the reason he attacked, they did not have oisters on their first date because of his allergy, he now figured she was testing him.
If he had agreed then she wouldโve confirmed that it was not him but a doppelganger.
Of course there were a lot of plot holes in their logic like how would the monster know about either of them unless it can read minds.
However they couldnโt rule out any abilities of monsters.
" So whatโs next?" He asked.
She stretched her neck, " Well first Iโm going to need to find a suitable beast soul, then we can try and take out that bitch monster."
" You still have such a vile tongue?" He shook his head at her.
" Youโre one to talk." She responded, " So should we deal with this?" While they were talking they got surrounded by a few monsters.
