Chapter 133: Chapter 133: We Can Be Even Better

Vera Yves thought she was hearing things, but then Miles Monroe took out a ring box, inside of which lay a diamond ring, very large and intricately cut.

Vera snapped back to reality, deliberately avoiding looking at the ring, "Aren’t we fine as we are?"

"We could be better." Miles hugged her tightly, "I know what you’re worried about, but you don’t need to worry about The Monroe Family, I’ll persuade my parents."

She had thought she was waiting for a breakup, not a proposal.

This time, between her and Jane Shea, hadn’t he chosen her?

Marrying Miles Monroe, Vera Yves wasn’t resistant; no other man in the world would ever be kinder or more gentle to her than he.

But the failed marriage with Winston Valentine made her inexplicably fearful of marriage.

"Can I have some time to think about it?"

Miles said apologetically, "I was too impatient, Vera, don’t feel too pressured, but I hope you understand, the proposal wasn’t on a whim, I really want to marry you."

Vera couldn’t help but think, when he proposed to Jane Shea, he wasn’t as low-key as he is now, otherwise, how would Nathan Norton have known?

People can be so greedy.

The next morning, Vera went to Hillside Villa and found that Rae Rhodes wasn’t there.

Cleo Sutton gave a pale smile, "Rhea said, a friend of hers is sick and has no one to care for them, so she’s gone to help for a while."

Vera couldn’t imagine Rae being so good to a friend.

Vera checked her pulse and examined her; her body had almost recovered, although it would never be the same as a normal person’s again.

The medical team Tristan Valentine formed for Cleo Sutton had been working hard on developing new medicines.

Vera inadvertently saw a wedding dress design on the bedside; it was a beautiful gown.

Cleo noticed her gaze and smiled, "I designed that, is it nice?"

Vera was a bit surprised.

Cleo took the design, "In my condition, wearing the most beautiful dress would still look ugly."

"The wedding is planned for next spring, by then your hair will have grown some, and with my help, you can be a bit more full, you’ll surely be a beautiful bride."

Cleo looked at Vera tenderly, "Dr. Yves, I heard from Tristan that you have a new boyfriend, if you get married, may I design a dress for you as a thank-you gift?"

Thinking of Miles Monroe’s proposal, Vera still felt somewhat unreal. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Sure, were you a fashion designer before?"

Cleo nodded, "I loved designing clothes, but in the past couple of years, as my health declined, Tristan wouldn’t let me draw for too long, and I didn’t have the heart for it."

On leaving Hillside Villa, Vera received a call from Zoe Monroe, inviting her and Miles for a ski trip over the weekend, saying there was an event at the resort.

Miles’ abdominal wound had healed well, Vera called to confirm he was free before accepting Zoe’s invitation.

Returning to her apartment, Vera received another call, this time from Luke Shaw.

Vera hadn’t expected him to approach her on his own, and they arranged to meet at a café.

"Has Miles Monroe dumped you? Would you consider being with me?" Luke was straightforward.

Vera suppressed her disgust and said coldly, "Luke, what do you have to compare with Miles?"

"What’s a Monroe?" Luke scoffed, "Trust me, in less than five years, Wellspring Pharmacy will surpass The Monroes!"

Vera casually stirred her coffee, "With The Shaw Family’s current strength?"

"Vera, your grandfather practiced for decades; you know the depths of this more than I do." Luke looked at her, lowering his voice, "Why not collaborate with our Wellspring Pharmacy?"

Vera’s eyes flickered, "How to collaborate?"

"Your Yves Family has a secret formula said to cure all kinds of ailments, right? Sell us the formula, and we’ll clear Old Mr. Yves’s name for you, how about that?"

Vera clenched her hands, "How do you plan to clear his name?"

"Media hype!" Luke leaned back dismissively, "The more wronged Old Mr. Yves seems, the more valuable the formula becomes!"

Vera trembled with anger and stood up, "I’m going to the bathroom."

Seeing her leave, Luke quickly placed something in her drink.

When Vera returned, she was calm again; just as she sat, Luke’s phone rang, and he stepped aside to answer it.

Back at the table, seeing Vera had finished her coffee, Luke picked up his own and drank as well, "Vera, cheating once is still cheating, why not add me to the list."

Vera sneered.

"What, not afraid of Winston Valentine anymore?"

Luke said disdainfully, "He’s just a side piece now, what’s there to be proud of?"

Vera hadn’t expected this version to be circulating in their circle.

"Today’s coffee is on me." Vera stood to settle the bill; Luke tried to grab her, but found his vision blurring more and more, looking at the coffee cup before him—damn, he’d been outsmarted!

On Friday, Vera and Miles went to buy ski gear, and when they saw Zoe’s pro jungler, Vera’s face darkened.

Theodore Xavier?

Theodore greeted everyone with a smile, playing the role of the perfect partner, showing no awkwardness when meeting Vera’s gaze.

Zoe looked at the couple’s matching outfits and gave a thumbs-up, "Their family should have you two as their spokespersons!"

In the car, Theodore drove while Zoe kept feeding him, clearly infatuated.

At the ski resort, Zoe had booked three rooms, and as she allocated them, Miles interrupted, "Make it two rooms: one for the men, one for the women."

Zoe’s gaze shifted down, as if asking: Cousin, are you really not up to it?

Miles had no way to handle her.

As they were about to head upstairs, Winston Valentine walked into the hotel lobby, accompanied by Walter Lowell handling the check-in.

Theodore put on an exaggeratedly fake expression of surprise, "Winston, what a coincidence!"

Winston shot him a look, obviously not interested in interacting with him.

His gaze swept over Vera and Miles holding hands, wearing matching outfits, standing there, very much an eyesore!

Beside him, Zoe jumped up and hugged Theodore’s neck, "What’s going on? Didn’t you say you’re not familiar with him?"

Theodore quickly pleaded, "Darling, fair-weather friends, but still need to say hello."

Vera glanced at him, indeed Winston’s kind of party buddies, lying without blinking.

Miles led Vera into the elevator, leaning to whisper in her ear, "If it’s inconvenient, we can switch hotels."

Vera shook her head indifferently, "It’s fine."

As the elevator doors closed, Vera saw Cecilia Vaughn entering the hotel lobby, walking up to Winston Valentine with a smile.
