Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 168: Minded to Death
Zoe was startled by the noise and knocked on the bathroom door, "Vera, are you okay? Are you alright?"
Vera Yves tidied her messy clothes, regaining her composure, "I’m fine, just took a shower."
Winston Valentine still stood in front of her, and Vera gestured with her eyes for him to move aside.
Winston refused to move, whispering in her ear, "Let her leave."
Vera put on a stern face, "Move aside."
Winston held her hand, slowly moving it downwards, and Vera’s face turned as red as a burning flame.
"Help me."
Vera lowered her voice, "Winston Valentine, have you no shame?"
"You just bandaged my wound, could you bear to let it split open again?"
"Knock, knock, knock!" Zoe Monroe knocked on the door, "Vera, that idiot Mark hasn’t won even once, it’s no fun. Will you come play with me?"
Vera tried to withdraw her hand, but Winston wouldn’t let go, and they were at a stalemate.
"I’ll come down after blow-drying my hair. You go down and wait for me first."
"Hurry up."
Hearing the door close, Vera sighed in relief. Winston took her hand down, and Vera, as if burnt, pulled her hand back, "Winston Valentine, don’t even think about it!"
"Then let me hold you for a while." Winston pulled her into his arms.
Vera dared not move recklessly.
Winston lowered his head to kiss her lips again, leaving Vera’s lips numb from the kiss. Taking advantage of his unguarded moment, she pushed him away and opened the door, "Don’t climb out the window again, I’ll escort you out once everyone’s asleep."
Vera patted her cheeks, feeling less flushed, and then stepped out of the room.
Upon stepping out, she bumped into Zoe standing outside the door, startling Vera, "You... why haven’t you gone downstairs yet?"
Zoe, seeing her flushed cheeks, recalled the clothes she saw on her bed earlier, "Vera, is there really no chance for you and my cousin?"
"No matter what happens with him and me, we’ll always be good friends."
Zoe linked arms with her, "Of course."
The two went downstairs together, and Vera played a few rounds of games with her. Mark Yves offered to give Mia Tate a ride home, and he also offered Zoe a lift.
Hannah Hayes and Harry Yves had already gone to bed, so Vera went upstairs. Winston had already dressed and was waiting by the desk.
Seeing him looking through her notes, Vera walked over, "Didn’t anyone tell you not to rummage through others’ things?"
Winston turned to look at her, "Girlfriends aren’t ’others’."
Hearing the word ’girlfriend,’ Vera felt a bit speechless. She wasn’t quite used to this relationship with Winston.
Vera threw on a coat, motioning for him to follow her downstairs. In the hallway, Winston naturally held her hand, and Vera struggled but couldn’t break free.
"Vera Yves, you’re my girlfriend now."
Vera quickly pressed his mouth, "Afraid others won’t know you’re here?"
Winston leaned closer, whispering, "They’ll find out sooner or later."
Vera didn’t respond.
Once they exited the villa, Vera finally spoke, "Winston Valentine, even though I agreed to start over with you, I don’t want too many people knowing about it for now."
Winston’s expression turned somber, "You want this to be a secret romance?"
"Too many people finding out will just make breaking up a hassle."
Break up? He had just managed to get her back in his life, and on the first day, she was already thinking about breaking up.
Winston’s face darkened even more, "When you went public with Miles Monroe, you weren’t worried about trouble then?"
Vera looked up at him, "If you’re really bothered about the past with him, you can reconsider our relationship."
Winston leaned down, pulling her into his embrace.
Vera, feeling resistant, tried to push him away, but he held her tighter, as if wanting to merge her into his being.
"Vera Yves, you know I won’t let you go even if it kills me."
"Why make it hard for yourself?"
Winston tightened his hold on her, "Because as long as you’re by my side, nothing else matters."
Vera felt his body trembling slightly. After some hesitation, she reached out and hugged him back, "Winston Valentine, I’ll also try to like you again."
Mark Yves first drove Mia Tate home. Her home was in an old residential area. Mark escorted her upstairs before coming back down and starting the car.
Zoe Monroe, sitting in the back, gave him a thumbs up, "Didn’t know you have the potential to be a dutiful boyfriend."
Mark glanced at her through the rearview mirror, "Sit up front, I’m not your chauffeur."
Zoe teased, "That’s the girlfriend’s seat, I’ve got my principles."
"You and your principles."
Zoe glared at him.
Mark glanced at her again through the mirror, "Haven’t seen you playing Honor of Kings lately?"
"I uninstalled it."
"Really broke up with Theodore Xavier?"
Zoe rolled her eyes at him, "Why so concerned with others’ love lives? Spend that time caring more for your girlfriend."
"I’m not marrying her anyway," Mark said nonchalantly, "Just a casual thing to avoid mom setting me up on dates."
"Jerk!"
Mark chuckled, "How many aren’t jerks in this circle? You think Theodore wasn’t just having fun with you?"
"You think I wasn’t just having fun with him?" Zoe glared at him, "Stop the car!"
"Why? We’re still far from your apartment." Seeing Zoe’s stern face, Mark obediently pulled over to the roadside.
Zoe slammed the car door open, "The air is polluted by you. I’m afraid if I stay, I’ll get poisoned!"
"Bang!"
Zoe slammed the car door and strode off.
Mark drove slowly behind her; her temper was really getting worse.
After seeing Winston off, Vera returned to her bedroom but couldn’t sleep. Just as she drifted off, Winston messaged, telling her he was home, reminding her not to forget his acupuncture tomorrow.
This man was as annoying as ever.
The next morning, Vera drove to The Valentine Group.
Walter Lowell led her into Winston’s office, where he was in a video conference. Noticing someone enter, he looked up and smiled when he saw Vera.
The overseas execs in the meeting with Winston were surprised, never expecting one day they’d see President Valentine smiling so gently.
Vera curled her lips slightly to greet him and then sat on the sofa.
Winston finished the meeting and sat next to her, "Didn’t I say I’d send someone to pick you up?"
"Driving myself is more convenient."
Winston held her hand, "I booked a restaurant for lunch. Will you stay to eat with me?"
Vera instinctively wanted to refuse but knowing their current relationship, she couldn’t always turn him down.
"Okay."
She withdrew her hand, stood up, and began massaging his scalp, "I’m going to be on a TV show where there’s a neurology expert. He’s more skilled than I am; you could consult him."
"You mean the guy surnamed Han?"
Vera was surprised, "You know him?"
"No, I don’t."
"Knock, knock, knock!" There was a knock at the door, Winston responded, and Walter Lowell came in, "President, Mr. Shelby is here."
Vera’s hands paused.
Melinda Shelby walked in directly.
