Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 212: Not Your Enemy
"Do you want me to come pick you up?" Winston Valentine’s voice pulled her back from her thoughts.
Vera Yves collected herself, "No need."
"Didn’t you drink?"
"Not much, I’ll just call a designated driver soon."
"Can a designated driver be as useful as I am?" Winston said with a hint of helplessness in his voice, "Wait for me there, I’ll be there in half an hour."
Vera hung up the phone, looking around again, but there was no sign of Cecilia Vaughn; it was as if she had just imagined it.
Vera returned to the private room where Linda Young was singing a love duet with Nathan Norton, the atmosphere was lively, and Vera felt a bit distracted by the report she received in the morning.
She drank a glass of wine, pondering what the opposing party’s motive was. Since they knew she wasn’t The Yves Family’s daughter so early on, why did they only come to her now?
When Winston Valentine arrived at the private room, Vera was leaning against the sofa, looking somewhat forlorn, contrasting with the surrounding excitement.
He sat down beside Vera and gently touched her cheek, "How much did you drink?"
"Not much." Vera held his hand.
Winston held her hand tightly, "Having a bad mood?"
Vera looked into his concerned eyes, thinking that her being The Yves Family’s daughter didn’t matter much to him—there was already a vast difference in their statuses.
"Big sister Vera, is this your brother-in-law?" Young Lewis, who was in charge of props, came over to chat.
Vera nodded, "He’s here to pick me up."
Young Lewis was a young man in his early twenties, naturally sociable, and enthusiastically said, "Brother-in-law, it’s the first time meeting you, you must have a drink with each of us today."
Vera was thinking of how to help him decline, but Winston Valentine courteously glanced at him, "Thanks for your hard work, it’s true that I should drink this cup. Thank you for helping Vera."
After that, everyone began to toast Winston Valentine with a glass of beer each, and he drank six or seven cups in a row.
Linda Young wanted to join in the fun but was stopped by Vera’s glance.
Linda Young gave her a disdainful look as if to say, look at this pathetic display—only a few cups of beer, and you’re already feeling sorry?
Vera squeezed his right hand, "Medicines require you to avoid alcohol and cigarettes. When will you take it seriously?"
Winston Valentine wrapped his arm around her shoulder, "They all called me brother-in-law, I can’t not drink."
Vera felt helpless with him, but also felt that this Winston Valentine seemed more real than before.
When they returned to the villa, both were slightly tipsy. As soon as they entered, Winston eagerly kissed Vera, who was overwhelmed, pinned against a wall.
The phone rang, disrupting the romantic atmosphere.
Vera took out her phone and saw Tristan Valentine’s call. Her eyes dimmed slightly, she wanted to push Winston away, but Winston saw the name on the screen and kissed her lips again.
Vera answered the call, one hand pushing him, the other holding the phone to her ear.
"Vera Yves, could you come over to the villa now? Cleo’s not doing well."
"Okay, I’ll be right over."
Vera hung up the phone and tidied her clothes.
Winston Valentine helped wipe her lips, his voice showing no emotion, "I’ll take you there."
Arriving at Hillside Villa, Vera walked in alone.
Tristan Valentine was standing at Cleo Sutton’s door. Seeing Vera was like seeing his lifeline, "She’s refused to eat, take medicine, or speak to me since this morning and locked herself in the room."
"What happened before she refused to eat?"
Tristan looked a bit embarrassed, "She’s been constipated for the past few days, the same situation occurred during chemotherapy before. The caregiver would help her, but the caregiver wasn’t there yesterday, so I tried to help."
Vera knocked on the door, "Aunt Sutton, it’s Vera Yves, could you open the door for me?"
When no one answered inside, Vera signaled Tristan to go downstairs, "Aunt Sutton, there’s only me outside."
After waiting a while, Cleo Sutton opened the door for Vera, looking even thinner than before.
Inside the room, the air was filled with fragrant incense.
Cleo Sutton suddenly spoke, "Dr. Yves, is there a medicine that can make someone die quietly and unknowingly?"
Vera looked at her with surprise, "I know you are in pain right now, I can understand."
Cleo laughed bitterly and shook her head, "Living with my dignity crushed like this is unbearable. Just imagining that in the end, I have to lie in bed crippled, showing my most humiliating side to him, fills me with fear."
Vera held her hand firmly.
Cleo Sutton looked sorrowful, "I don’t have much time left in this world, I don’t want him to only remember these degrading moments, I would rather die now."
"Would you really do that? Would you let him live with those beautiful memories alone and regret not saving you while watching you die?"
Cleo’s eyes turned red, "But living, why is it so hard?"
"Don’t you want to find your daughter still?" Vera smiled at her, "You must have faith, wouldn’t you want to hear her call you mom?" 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Cleo shook her head, "I just hope she can live happily."
"If she one day learns you are her mother but cannot see you, she would be very regretful."
Outside the villa.
Winston Valentine leaned against the car, looking at the villa with a deep gaze.
A figure emerged from the villa.
Tristan Valentine looked at him coldly, "Go back and persuade your mom, if she agrees to divorce now, maybe Henry Sterling can get a reprieve."
Winston sneered, "If she would agree, Henry wouldn’t be in there in the first place."
"Winston, I am your father, not your enemy."
"That’s why Henry is inside, not you." Winston stood up straight, adjusting his clothes, "Have you decided whether to permanently cancel the wedding? Those evidences—I will make them disappear from this world."
"I can give the corporation to you."
Winston’s gaze deepened.
"As long as Cleo and I successfully hold the wedding, I will hand over the corporation to you." Tristan said calmly, "I will withdraw completely."
If it were before, Winston wouldn’t believe Tristan Valentine would give up his business empire for a woman, but now he does.
But this means nothing to him.
"If I use that evidence to send you inside, the corporation will belong to me just the same." Winston said leisurely, "That evidence is enough to sentence you severely."
Tristan asked without much emotion, "Are you doing this for Cecilia Vaughn?"
Winston coldly laughed, "If it were for her, you’d have already gone to jail."
"So you’ve known for a long time?"
Winston looked at the villa behind him, "You bankrupted The Vaughn Family back then and forced Yohan Vaughn to jump off a building, all for this woman?"
