Chapter 490 Crispy Creamy

Adjusted this chapter to match what happened in the previous chapter.

Today’s dinner was a simple pork bowl with Dungeon Pork.

When I met with the rest of my party, the first thing Fer asked was, “Oi, did you manage to get a new Magic Stove?”

“Yes,”

“… aren’t you going to make anything new or interesting with it?”

“Of course, I’m going to use the stove to make something special, but I can only do it tomorrow after I collected the crab meat…”

“Why don’t we go and collect it now? We caught two more crabs for them to process.”

“Oh well, if you put it that way.”

Naturally, Orson-san was more than happy to receive two more Berserker Mud Crabs from us. “Apologies, we haven’t completely taken all the meat out as yet…”

“No worries, let me have what you’ve already taken out.”

Thus, with the extra meat in hand, we happily went home.

My familiars were less than happy to realise that the new crab dish would take a bit of time to make. Even so, aside from some grumbling from the more impatient ones, namely Fer and Dora-chan, it was all fine.

The dish I wanted to make was Crab Cream Croquettes.

Whenever I managed to get my hands on a can of crab meat, I’d make myself some Crab Cream Croquettes. That’s because I can adjust the amount of seasoning used and stuff as much crab meat as I like into the croquettes.

I have never tried making these croquettes with fresh crab meat before, so I’m really looking forward to it. Especially with how delicious the Berserker Mud Crab meat was.

Uwaahhh, just imagining it is making my mouth water~

To make the croquettes, a few things are needed. [1] One of them was the Magic Cooler taken from the King of Thieves’ hoard. After activating the Magic Cooler with a magic stone, I got to work.

Speaking of magic stones, while eating Crab Miso yesterday, Grandpa Gon accidentally ate a magic stone. I was really shocked to hear him go ‘crunch, crunch’ and thought that he must have accidentally taken a bite out of the cab leg shell, but no, there was a stone in his food.

“Do magic stones taste good?” I asked.

“It tasted just like regular stones, but I get a small power boost from it,” he said casually.

Considering how powerful Grandpa Gon was, the stone probably doesn’t add much to his magic.

“I don’t like the way it feels in my mouth,” said Fer when interviewed.

“”The stones are too hard for me to eat,”” was Dora-chan’s answer.

As for Sui…

“”Sui likes Aruji’s food better~~””

Ah, my Sui-tan~~

Anyway, I told Grandpa Gon not to eat any more of these stones since we could exchange them for money.

“Oho? Money that could be used to buy delicious food? Of course, of course, it’s not like they tasted good anyway.”

Well, that was what happened yesterday.

Today, the challenge is Crab Cream Croquettes!

First, purchase some butter and milk from [Net Super], as for the rest of the ingredients, I have most of them already. Next, the crabmeat. I took out roughly a bucket’s worth of crabmeat and put them on a steamer. While the crab was steaming, I chopped up some onions grown by Alban.

Ahhh, vegetables grown in this world with seeds from my world resulted in some really spectacular produce.

Once I was done chopping the onions, the crab was done steaming too. I had Sui help me flake up the crab meat, while I slowly sweat the onions over a low heat until they’re tender. When Sui was done flaking crab meat, I added them to the pan and stir-fry with salt, pepper and a little white wine until the alcohol evaporated.

Set the crab and onion mixture aside.

In another deep pan, make the white sauce. First, melt some butter and put some sifted flour into the pan until the flour is no longer clumpy. Add milk in several batches and whisk vigorously each time. Keep whisking so that the mixture doesn’t burn.

When the mixture is nice and glossy, add the onion and garlic mixture. Mix everything together and adjust the flavour with salt and pepper.

After that, transfer everything onto a tray and leave it to cool. Once it has cooled down, cover it with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for an hour.

While the crab mixture is chilling, time to prepare the batter and garnishes.

The batter is the standard eggs, water, and flour with a final coating of breadcrumbs for a nice crispy finish.

The garnish would be finely shredded cabbage and tomatoes cut into wedges.

Speaking of which, the tomatoes and cabbages were all grown by Alban.

Hmm, it’s a little less than an hour, but it the crabs should be firm enough to be shaped now. Shape the cooled crab mixture into little barrels. Roll the barrels through the batter and roll them again in the breadcrumbs.

Place the shaped and breaded barrels back into the fridge and roll out more crabmeat into barrels and repeat the process until the mixture is gone. Finally, it was time to fry these Crab Cream Croquettes.

Heat the oil up to 180 degrees Celsius, and fry the Crab Cream Croquette until they are a beautiful golden brown.

“Woohoo, they looked absolutely delish~~”

As the cook, I get first taste privilege!

Crunch–!

“Ooff, hot, hot! Woah, hot, but huff, delish~!”

Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, the best combination ever. Moreover, it was positively stuffed with real crab meat, so satisfying~!

After polishing off that first croquette, I became even more motivated and quickly fried up the rest of the Crab Cream Croquettes, making sure to swiftly put away each batch into the [Item Box] to conserve their perfect, freshly fried condition.

In short, I mass-produced a whole bunch of Crab Cream Croquettes for future dinners~

“Phew~ finally~ now all I have to do is serve them~~”

The garnishes were already done. Now, all I have to do is serve my hungry familiars.

“Hey, what the heck is this?”

Fer’s face immediately scrunched up at the colourful sight of brilliant green sliced cabbage and glossy red tomatoes.

Instead of addressing the vegetables, I said, “It’s Cream Crab Croquettes. The cabbages and tomatoes are garnishes. It’s fine if you’re unable to eat them.”

Fer made a ‘mu’ of distaste, but swallowed all the vegetables in one go. Google search ƒ𝐫𝒆e𝓌𝒆𝚋𝗻૦𝘷𝑒𝙡. 𝑐𝘰𝐦

[3] “Hm? You don’t want any mayonnaise on that?” I asked as I squeezed mayo over the vegetables for my other familiars. “Or the croquettes?”

“What?”

After squeezing mayonnaise over the garnishes, I placed three piping hot croquettes on each plate and served them to Grandpa Gon, Dora-chan and Sui.

Naturally, the three of them ignored the vegetables and carefully ate the hot Crab Cream Croquette instead.

“Huff, hot and, mmm, this is the crab meat from yesterday? It is so rich and different, this crispiness…”

“”Huff, huff, ooff, huff!!””

“”Sui likes the creamy, creamy thing inside~~””

[3]

“Hey! Where’s mine?!”

“Well, you ate the raw vegetables so deliciously just now…”

“Gunununu,”

“What was that? You want seconds? Sure!”

I put shredded cabbages and tomatoes on the plate and… stared at Fer for a moment.

“Oi!!”

I laughed and relented, “Yes, yes, sorry.” I squeezed mayonnaise on the vegetables and place four pieces of croquettes on his plate. “There we go.”

“Mu,” Fer looked like he wanted to complain some more, but ended up snagging one of the croquettes instead. “Huff, huff, mu, huff.”

[3]

“Would you all like some sauce to go with your seconds?” I asked, holding up a bottle of an all-purpose tonkatsu sauce.

“Don’t mind if I do.”

“”Sauce me!!””

Just where did Dora-chan learn to speak like that…

So, the seconds were served with sauce. At the end of tonight’s dinner, everyone came to a single conclusion.

“Let’s catch more crabs.”

“I thought you already caught two today?”

“More crabs better.”

“”Ou!””

“”Crabby~~!!””

“Umu, let’s catch all the crabs in that river.”

“Hey!”
