Chapter 607 – That Annoying One Again

Author: Eguchi Ren

Eguchi Ren: As announced, Tondemo Skill will be made into an anime!

Gumihou: I have watched the anime! It was great, hoping to see Season 2 soon!

Clang- clang- kong-

The sounds of construction continue to echo throughout the estate. According to Bruno, the construction was progressing well and they were nearly done with the basic structure, so only the interior work remained.

The most crucial bit of information I gleaned from this was that the construction work would be done within a week.

All of the Dwarves, Bruno-san included, were all looking forward to the completion of the work. Perhaps even more than I thanks to the drinking party promised by Grandpa Gon. I should give that a little more thought. It was pretty successful back then because barbecue is always a good food choice when it comes to beer. However, should we have another barbecue so soon?

Hmm…

The reason why I had the time to think about such trivial things was because I had nothing better to do.

“Haah~~ I wish every day could be like today~” I said to myself as I breathed in the elegant rose-scented tea before drinking it from my delightfully pretty cups with a pinky sticking out.

This was the tea that Lambert always served at his shop. I liked it so much that I got the shop name out of Marie-san and bought some for myself.

Speaking of which, it looks like I will be running out of this tea soon. I should think about getting more of it…

Just then, my leisure time was interrupted by a knock.

“Ye~es~” [1] I called out as I went to answer the door. Since the gate was manned by my people, the only ones who would knock at my door would be my servants. I don’t have anyone to answer the door because I don’t get many visitors, so it would be a waste of human resources.

I opened the door to find Luke standing there. How do I know it was Luke when the twins are identical you asked? Well, for your information, although the twins looked exactly alike, their eyes were of different colours, so it was pretty easy to tell.

“Luke? What is it? Is something wrong?”

“No, um, someone from the Adventurer’s Guild is at the gate. The Guild Master wants to see Mukouda-san as soon as possible,” said Luke.

“Ah, I see. Alright, thank you.”

[1] With that, Luke returned to the gate. I think he and his brother tended to guard the gate together. It is actually a pretty nice sight to see them bracketing the gate with their identical looks and similar outfits.

“As soon as possible? I wonder why they want me there as soon as possible?” I muttered to myself as I made my way to the living room where my familiars were resting.

When I informed them that I would be heading to the Adventurer’s Guild, all of them jumped up and said ‘We will go too!’.

“Wow, such enthusiasm…”

“It’s too boring here,” said Fer.

“Ah…”

So, they all wanted to come with me out of boredom. Well, that’s fine.

We walked to the Guild because there is no way I was going to be so conspicuous as to ride on Fer to the Guild…

“Ooh~! You’re here! We’ve been waiting!”

This was the most excited I had ever seen Willem-san be. Something terrible must have happened for him to be so happy to see me.

“You did say to come ‘as soon as possible’, did something happen?” I asked concernedly.

Willem-san immediately had that constipated look on his face that I thought was reserved for me. “That… let’s go to the warehouse… You will know when you get there…”

[2] Willem-san was also glancing over at my familiars. I wonder, does this have anything to do with them?

[2] “Please just come,”

[2] “You know,” I begin. “I’m starting to get a little worried now…”

[2] “Haha, just come with me. Go on, go on now. Oi! Johan, we’re borrowing your office!”

[3] At Johan’s ‘office’, which was basically a small storeroom with a table and some chairs, I sat opposite the Guild Master. Both of us had our heads lowered and our hands clasped under our chins. The air was heavy with tension as I and my familiars processed the information we had been told.

“Say, are you sure that this news is true?” I said for maybe the third time in a row.

“Why would I lie about it? We received a letter through the magic tool. It was sent from the Adventurer’s Guild at the Capital…”

“So, there’s no mistake?”

“No mistake.”

“Hahhh…”

We both sighed together.

“What a nightmare.”

Umu,”

“Oi, are you serious?” Fer grumbled.

“Master, surely this cannot be true?” said Grandpa Gon a little nervously.

“”Lies, this has to be a lie…”” Dora-chan was draped near the edge of the table, on the verge of falling.

“”Uncle Elf~? Coming~?””

“”Gaahhh!!!”” Dora-chan shrieked and actually fell off the table with a thud.

Ignoring the commotion happening around me, I said, “So, why is he coming? I mean, what is his justification?”

Because we all know his real reason, but he must have something reasonable to say to Moira-sama to justify coming here.

Umu, he is supposedly here to personally return the magic sword you lent the Capital Guild for the dismantling job.”

“Oh, yeah…” I had completely forgotten that I had rented the sword to the Guild for a month. How much gold did I get for that, already? “I think they had three months to return the sword, surely…”

The original terms of the borrowing was ‘1 month’, but when the Brahm-san heard that I was leaving the Capital, he requested 3 months time to send the sword back. I agreed because there was really no reason not to. After all, it was not like I was doing anything with the sword.

[3] Not to mention, they paid me quite a lot of money just to ‘borrow’ the sword. I really don’t mind if they sneaked another couple of months’ use out of it and sent it back to me at the end of the third month, but Brahm had been adamant about having one of their 6 S rank parties send the ‘very precious sword’ back to Carelina once the month was up.

[3] What could I do but agree to it?

Now, however…

“You’re saying that Elland-san will be sending the sword back on his own?”

“Yes.”

[2] “Why… I mean, how? How did that happen?! Wasn’t he under surveillance? Also, if a whole S Rank party is needed to deliver the sword. Elland-san may be a Guild Master, but he’s still only one person!!”

“Indeed,” Willem-san said over folded arms. “In fact, it was a crime to run off with a magic sword that was under the care of the Guild. Thus, an arrest order was issued.”

“… …”

“Also, two S Rank parties had been sent to track down Elland.”

“What a nuisance…” I rubbed my face. “Wait, if you have just received the news, he should be on his way here? But not here just yet?”

“Yes…”

“Then, what if we go away from Carelina for a bit? Say, for a hunting expedition?”

Dora-chan suddenly revived and flew up to yell (telepathically), “”Yes! Let’s do that!””

Umu, I would rather go hunting as well, Master,” said Grandpa Gon.

“No!” Willem-san suddenly slammed a hand on the table. “You cannot leave this town!”

“Eh? Why? Isn’t this the most logical solution?”

“What logical solution? Do you intend to leave me here to deal with that person while you go off gallivanting on your own?!”

“Eh? Wait, gallivanting…?”

[4] “This is your problem! You should stay here and take care of it!” Willem-san yelled.

[4] “Wh-what are you talking about? How is this my problem?” I shrieked back. “That person is a Guild Master of the Adventurer’s Guild! Shouldn’t the Adventurer’s Guild control their people better?!”

[4] “Gununu… are you saying you refused to take responsibility?”

[4] Tch, I refuse to back down! “What responsibility? Why should I, why should we take responsibility!?”

[4a] Suddenly, shadows loomed over Willem-san and… it was Grandpa Gon and Dora-chan.

[4a] “Oi, are you threatening our Master, human?” Grandpa Gon growled.

[4a] “”Hey, it certainly looks like it. Shall I send a few Ice Needles through his head?””

[4a] While it was tempting to resort to violence, I still wanted to live peacefully in Carelina. Furthermore, who knows what other people would do if my familiars physically attacked a guild master?

While we were in the middle of this standoff, a knock sounded at the door.

“Excuse me, is this a bad time?”

It was Jorgen.

“Hey, so, I couldn’t help overhearing the name ‘Elland’. He’s an Elf, right?”

“Um, yes?” I said, uncertain why this fellow would interrupt a stand-off between myself and Willem-san.

“A dragon maniac Elf?”

“Eh?”

“As in, he really, really likes dragons?”

“Wait, you know him?”

[Gumihou: Did some things to make the chapter more interesting]

[1] Add details that may be interesting to readers

[2] Deleted some details to reduce dragginess

[3] Add a little more details on other things to reduce the dragginess of the ‘reveal’

[4] Unreasonable yelling from Willem, point this out and strengthen Mukouda’s spine while I’m at it.

[4a] It’s supremely unlikely that the familiars were doing nothing while their peace of mind was being threatened by one puny human trying to intimidate their master.
