Chapter 29: Ancient Mage's Lair (6)

Leon gathered up all the items inside the Training Room.

He also packed away the books he hadn’t had time to read yet.

Although he had raised his Realm as quickly as possible, quite some time had still passed.

About three weeks, perhaps......?

Maybe even longer depending on how long he was unconscious.

“Fly.”

Leon put on the golden wings, levitated the Old Tree Staff in midair, and held several Scrolls in his hand.

“Come out.”

As Leon muttered softly, a translucent sphere floated up beside him.

This was the 5-star Arpina Magic that could harmoniously handle the Four Elements. Without needing to summon a separate Summoned Creature, the translucent sphere could transform into a Summoned Creature of any Attribute Leon desired and use Magic.

Since summoning alone only drained Magic Power, it was better to summon in advance.

Having finished his preparations, Leon pulled the Lever.

Thud-

The door that seemed like it wouldn’t budge an inch began to open.

By the time the door had opened enough for Leon to see the situation outside, the six Golems waiting in front of the door were already staring in Leon’s direction.

There were six Golems just in front of the door.

If he spread his Scanning Magic widely, he could detect a total of fifteen Golems.

Ten Armor Golems and five Gargoyle Golems.

They didn’t attack immediately, but just stared intently.

The moment I step out of the door...... they’ll probably attack.

When Leon first arrived here and used Scanning Magic, he realized that the structure outside the door wasn’t much different from the corridor where he had originally been.

There was a long corridor, with rooms on both sides at regular intervals.

The only difference was that fifteen Golems were wandering around that corridor.

It was frustrating that this Training Room happened to be right in the middle of the corridor.

There should be a staircase at the end of the corridor......

Although the Scanning Magic didn’t reach beyond the closed area at the end of the corridor, he could infer based on the structure so far.

And another fact he could infer. The Lair exploration wasn’t completely finished yet.If it had been, there wouldn’t be Golems in front of the door like this.

It seemed that the Lair didn’t have just one corridor.

I don’t need to deal with all of them.

He had no intention of fighting all fifteen. And he still didn’t know the power of the Gargoyle Golems.

Anyway, retrieving the Wooden Sword was his utmost priority.

As Leon stepped out of the door, the two Armor Golems right in front immediately rushed towards him.

Leon immediately used the acceleration of the golden wings to rise high to the ceiling of the corridor.

At that moment, the Gargoyles looked at Leon and opened their mouths.

Magic Circles formed in front of their mouths, and dozens of invisible spikes appeared, lunging towards Leon.

“Thunderlight.”

Leon simultaneously created three Thunderlights, throwing two towards the Wind spikes.

Boom-

When the two orbs collided with the Wind spikes at the front, electricity spread widely in an instant, creating an explosive sound.

However, the Wind spikes weren’t coming from just one direction.

The other three belatedly shot Wind spikes towards Leon.

The remaining one seemed to be preparing a different Magic, as its Magic Circle was glowing but the Magic hadn’t manifested yet.

Leon avoided the Magic again with acceleration and pointed his finger at the Gargoyle preparing the other Magic.

The remaining orb flew.

Bang- Crackle-

Although that Magic didn’t deal a big blow, it disrupted the Magic Circle in front of its mouth, causing it to disappear.

“Muddie.”

At Leon’s call, the translucent sphere swirled with brown light.Though imperfect, it was a step towards summoning the original 4-star Earth Creature.

Let’s move to one side first and use Blink to move when the staircase is in sight.

Leon immediately began moving in the direction he had decided.

“Spit.”

Whenever an Armor Golem leaped up high, the brown sphere gathered and shot stone chunks.

This also didn’t cause much damage, but it was more powerful than when he was an Apprentice and was effective in preventing them from reaching Leon’s position.

He blocked the Gargoyle Golems’ Magic with Thunderlight, and the Armor Golems with stone chunks shot by Muddie. He also occasionally checked the Gargoyle Golems preparing big Magic with Thunderlight or Thunderstrike.

And when Wind spikes rushed in from a direction he couldn’t avoid, he threw a D-Grade Scroll to block them.

Leon currently had five D-Grade one-time use Scrolls.

This was the total number of Scrolls he had obtained as General Quest Rewards over four days.

By the time two Explosion Scrolls had been used, the end of the corridor came into view.

Leon immediately infused Magic Power into the Blink Scroll. The items touched by Leon’s Magic Power teleported along with him.As his Magic Power had grown stronger, he no longer needed to hold each item individually. As long as Magic Power was connected, it was even possible to enter the Magic Orb together.

There was indeed a door at the end of the corridor.

Leon quickly lowered the Lever and floated up in midair again.

“See you soon.”

He grasped the Magic Orb.

It’ll take 30 seconds for the door to open......

Leon replenished his Magic Power for 30 minutes, checked his equipment again, and then came out of the Magic Orb.

The Golems that had been looking around all turned to stare at Leon at once.

“Fall.”

Bang-

The Armor Golem at the very front staggered after being struck by a Thunderbolt.

In that moment, Leon used his last acceleration to enter through the door.

In front of the open door, as before, an Armor Golem was standing with its head bowed, but it raised its head when Leon came out.

“Thunderlight.”

As Leon spread three fingers, an electric orb formed above each finger.

He threw all three orbs at once.

Bang- Crackle-

It was clearly different from the Apprentice Magic that had no impact at all.

The Armor Golem staggered and fell to its knees.

“Thunderstrike, Thunderstrike, Thunderstrike.”

Thunderbolts fell consecutively from the ceiling.

Boom- Boom- Boom-

Crack- Shatter-

After about three strikes, the Armor shattered.

Leon took a rough breath as he felt the fatigue of Magic Power draining in chunks.

“Haa, it’s really tough....”

Even though it wasn’t a perfect Arcane Grade, Glory’s Thunder was quite geared towards offense.

To think it took six hits to take it down.

Of course, despite that, a Mystic-grade Mage would probably take it down without much difficulty.

“And yet the exploration still isn’t finished?”

Leon tilted his head in wonder as he scanned his surroundings.

A staircase going up.

In Leon’s opinion, the place he was summoned to was clearly deeper than where he had originally been. After all, it was a completely private Training Room.

He thought he needed to go up to find the Wooden Sword, so it was fortunate that it was a staircase going up.

If it had been a staircase going down, he would have had to consider running back to the opposite corridor.

I might have had to spend a day in the Magic Orb to recharge the Acceleration Wings’ cooldown......

After only picking up the Helmet of the Armor Golem, Leon replenished his Magic Power in the Magic Orb and came out to climb the staircase.

“Uh......”

As he finished climbing the staircase, Leon gaped blankly at the sight that met his eyes.

Where there should have been a corridor, a wide plaza spread out.

On the walls of the plaza, staircases going up and down were densely placed side by side.

There seemed to be at least twenty of them.

The staircase Leon had come up was one of them.

Leon circled the plaza once.

There were no people in the plaza, nor any traces of Magic Power.

Is this the only plaza?

No, there might be more.Or if you go down one staircase, it might lead endlessly downward.

After pondering, Leon decided to follow his instincts and chose one place to climb up.

Fortunately, when climbing the staircase, there was no door blocking the way. This wasn’t strange considering the structure so far.

As Leon climbed the staircase, a corridor appeared before him, but it was difficult to tell if it was the same one he had previously explored.

Well, I did leave all the doors open as I came......

Even if someone else explored, they probably wouldn’t have closed all the open doors one by one.

Leon immediately came back down and climbed another staircase.

After repeating this about 4 times, he found a corridor where all the room doors were open.

Since the room I was caught in the light was the last room......

The room visible right as he climbed up the staircase was probably that room.

He examined in front of that room’s door, but the Wooden Sword wasn’t there.

Leon didn’t approach close to the door, but examined from the opposite room first.

This is it!

The room’s appearance was now familiar to Leon, having stored all the Golem debris into the Magic Orb one by one.

Fortunately, it was connected to this plaza......

Or it could be that there is only one plaza.

Now it seemed more likely that it continued endlessly downward.

While examining other rooms except for the Training Room with the Magic Circle drawn, Leon became certain that it was indeed that corridor where he had been just before being summoned.

And Leon discovered the Wooden Sword lying alone in front of a room door located about halfway down the corridor.

Leon, who was about to run towards it in joy, realized that there were presences coming from that direction and hurriedly activated his Invisibility Cloak in place.

There wasn’t just one presence.

The multiple presences had already approached in front of the Wooden Sword.

One of the group looked down at the Wooden Sword and then grasped it in one hand.

And they slowly began to approach in Leon’s direction.Leon saw their unfamiliar faces and realized they weren’t people from the Widia School. The Magic robes they wore had completely unfamiliar patterns embroidered on them.

I think I might have seen them at the Exchange Festival......

“Hmm, I thought I felt a presence from this direction.”“Is that so? I didn’t feel anything... By the way, why did you pick up that Wooden Sword?”

The man holding the Wooden Sword even used Scanning Magic, and after finding no problems, he answered.

“We’ve come up empty-handed so far, and this is the only thing we’ve picked up.”

The middle-aged man who was swinging the Wooden Sword around clicked his tongue.

“Tsk. I thought we might have found something, but what is this trash......”“Maybe the Lair’s Master was going to give it to another Golem? Like the Sword the Armor Golem was holding.”“This useless Wooden Sword with no abilities?”“Wasn’t it an Artifact?”“I was going to use it if it had any ability even if it was a lowly Sword... You take it.”“No thanks. What... Do you still see me as that idiot from when I was an Apprentice?”“Look at your tone. Who do you think raised and nurtured you?”

The middle-aged man carelessly threw the Wooden Sword.

The Wooden Sword bounced on the floor a few times before coming to a stop in front of another room’s door.

It was pitifully discarded.

You... So that’s how you were being treated.

Leon realized why the Wooden Sword was in front of a different room’s door.

Other Mages had picked it up a few times, realized it had no abilities, and discarded it.

“There’s really no one here. What’s going on? I definitely felt a presence.”“Come on, weren’t you just nervous?”“It’s natural to be nervous when exploring ruins like this.”

The middle-aged man shook his head.

“You still have a long way to go. Just think about what those Widia bastards did. We’re in a position where we got stabbed in the back with our eyes wide open. There’s nothing wrong with being careful.”“Didn’t they mention that there have already been two battles in other areas?”“Absolutely. Those unethical bastards. We’ll likely end up fighting each time we cross paths.”“So troublesome. Isn’t the exploration constantly being delayed?”“That’s because there’s a an equally troublesome Magic Circle holding out underground......”

The group of five, including the middle-aged man, passed by Leon and examined up to the Training Room where Leon had been caught in the Magic Circle.

But nothing happened until they looked inside from in front of the door and turned around.

Why... isn’t the teleportation Magic Circle activating?

While Leon was pondering the reason, they went down the staircase.

Leon waited for a long time more before releasing his invisibility and grasping the Wooden Sword in his hand.

“Phew......”

It took a long time, but finally the Wooden Sword was in his hand.

Things went better than expected......

From what he heard from the other group’s conversation, it seemed the ruin exploration was still ongoing.

Rather than suddenly appearing alone from Widia, it might be best for Leon to be discovered naturally, but...

It’s not good to be too greedy either.

Even if he appeared unexpectedly in Widia by Teleport, he had a plausible excuse with the teleportation Magic Circle.

In fact, he had suddenly entered the Lair because of a teleportation Magic Circle, and had been suddenly moved to the Training Room because of a teleportation Magic Circle.

He was planning to say he awakened Magic using the Lair as an excuse anyway, so he needed the brazenness to handle everything at once.

Just as Leon finished his thoughts and raised his body while grasping the Wooden Sword.

From the opposite direction of where the middle-aged man’s group had disappeared, the presence of numerous people approaching was heard.

In the blink of an eye, they had come close enough for Leon to confirm.

The faces of those flying towards Leon at full speed were pale white.

“Hey, if you don’t want to die by the Witch, run away right now!”

It was before Leon could show any reaction.

In that very moment.

Without any sign, a black Fireball directly hit where the running people were.

Boom-

A huge black Fireball exploded on the spot.

The aftermath reached even where Leon was standing.

Leon’s clothes fluttered wildly in the wind.

Leon’s breath was taken away by the dense Magic Power wave rather than the hot air.

The Magic appeared without any precursor.

Invisible Spellcasting!

At least a Mystic-grade Mage.

Leon immediately grasped the Teleport Scroll and infused Magic Power.

“......”

But the flow of Magic Power was suddenly cut off midway.

When Leon raised his head, he saw a woman with long black hair who had appeared out of nowhere. The woman with one eye covered by her hair was holding her palm towards Leon.

Magic interference?

This was impossible even for an Early Insight Mage...

Leon’s thoughts couldn’t continue any further.

Leon instinctively touched the Magic Orb with his finger.

Then Leon disappeared from that spot without a trace.

At the same time, black flames rose from the floor.

“......”

The flames that had been blazing fiercely subsided in an instant.

After recalling her Magic and staring at that spot for a while, the woman’s head tilted to the side.
