Training-Addicted Mage In A Progression Fantasy-Chapter 62: Asteria (2)
Chapter 62: Asteria (2)
The search yielded only two books.
Magic ArchiveForgotten Wisdom, About Runes.Magic ArchiveDecoding Runic Script. In the vast five-floor Magic Archive, these were the only two books about runes.
Well, at least there’s something.
Leon picked up the books and carefully opened the first one.
He started with ‘Forgotten Wisdom, About Runes’.
Forgotten Wisdom, About Runes
One of the most enigmatic secrets in the magical world is 'Runes'. Some might dismiss it as a discarded script after extensive research, but legend claims runes were the divine language, containing the power of the world's Origin. This book focused not on interpreting runic script, but on illuminating how and why runic script was abandoned throughout history.
Forgotten Wisdom, About RunesAncient mages reportedly performed incredible feats using the power of runes. They controlled nature, foresaw the future, and achieved the impossible. However, due to the 'irrationality' of runic script, many mages gradually abandoned its study.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■For centuries, runes remained a forgotten legend or discarded script. However, the recent discovery of precious ancient ruins has given us another chance to unravel the secrets of runes. As a modern mage, I aim to explore the true essence of runes...The book was clearly old.Leon estimated it was written when ancient mage ruins were first being excavated.
To summarize, runes were legendary characters known as the language of the gods, but extensive research revealed their effectiveness was difficult to harness, leading to their natural abandonment.
Runic script had complex patterns that only worked in specific combinations, arrangements, and at special times, making it challenging to interpret easily.Until ancient ruins were excavated, it was truly a forgotten script.
However, the discovery of ancient ruins briefly reignited interest in runes, leading to a period of active research.
But the enthusiasm didn’t last long. The primary reason for runic script’s second fall into obscurity was its irrationality.
Firstly, there were instances where runic script couldn’t be used even if its meaning was known. After extensive research, this was attributed to ‘talent’.
Without the right talent, even knowing a runic script’s meaning didn’t enable one to read it.The runic scripts one could use were determined by innate talent.
Unlike modern magic, runic script was impossible to use even at a basic level without talent for a specific attribute.Consider how Ria used Arpina’s Four Elements Basic Magic, or how Black Mages use dark magic without talent in the Darkness Attribute.
Runes didn’t allow even that flexibility.
As if the differences in realm ascension due to talent weren’t enough, this widened the gap further.
Moreover, being an ancient legacy, runic script couldn’t adequately respond to the multi-attribute magic that emerged in modern times.
Even if ancient mages were Full-Attribute Bodies, they learned six magics separately, not multi-attribute magic that combined them simultaneously.Much like Leon’s current situation.
Considering this, is it accurate to say there’s no SSS-Rank multi-attribute magic?
Leon recalled the Brilliance of Creation he had received as a reward.Although written in modern script, it was essentially ancient magic interpreted into contemporary language. In essence, it was ancient magic.
Since S-Rank corresponds to the realm of Transcendence...Unless a genius mage who has surpassed that realm in modern times creates new magic, SSS-Rank magic can only be single-attribute.
That’s not all.
Crucially, even for those with exceptional talent, finding rune magic that matched their ability was nearly impossible.Because the origin of runic script was unclear, creating new magic was virtually unattainable.
Leon closed the book and turned his attention to the second one, ‘Decoding Runic Script’.This book contained interpretations of all 72 runic scripts discovered so far.
Should I consider myself fortunate?
Leon carefully read through each of the 72 runic scripts, turning the pages with care. His Full-Attribute Body allowed him to read the runic scripts without issue.
After confirming he could read all the runic scripts, Leon closed the book.As he looked up, he noticed Ria, who had been waiting silently, approaching.
“Have you finished reading?”“Ah, sorry. Did you wait long?”
Leon replied apologetically to Ria’s gentle inquiry. He had initially intended to take a quick look, but ended up reading almost the entire book.
Hearing this, Ria shook her head lightly with a smile.
“It’s alright. Those books... are you planning to borrow them?”“Yes, I should.”
Ria immediately approached the librarian instead of Leon and handed over her Mana Stone. The librarian, recognizing Ria, processed the loan without any suspicion.
“Thank you.”“I’m only helping because it’s your first day. Once it’s known that you’re the Master’s disciple, you’ll be able to borrow directly too.”
Leon and Ria left the Magic Archive, took a leisurely tour of the city, and then joined Arpina who was waiting in front of the Magic Tower. They had been informed that after touring Asteria, they would be provided with lodging and a Training Room.
“You took quite some time?”“We were delayed looking for books in the Magic Archive.”
As they entered a small, cozy building next to the Magic Tower, a middle-aged man sitting at a desk stood up abruptly and approached. He wore dark blue attire with the same Silver Star emblem as the Security Guard at the city gate.
“Elder, what brings you here?”
He asked politely.Arpina briefly explained, gesturing towards Leon.
“He’s my new disciple. Please register his identity and assign him lodging and a Training Room.”“A Personal Disciple, you mean?”“Yes.”
Arpina answered in a businesslike tone without inflection.
The man glanced at Leon, noticing he was an Apprentice 5th Grade, and inadvertently blurted out.
“Apprentice 5th Grade?”
The man, who had widened his eyes in surprise, soon burst into laughter, looking back and forth between Ria and Leon.
“Well, since Arpina arrived, talents have been flocking to our School. Like Ria with her Light Attribute Body... Is this person also...?”“Stop the unnecessary chatter and start with the identity registration.”“Yes, understood.”
Despite Arpina’s cold words, the man continued to chuckle without showing any signs of being offended, mentioning that it was a joyous occasion.
He took out a blue book, wrote a few things, and then pulled out a pile of other items and handed them to Leon. The items were a sky-blue robe with a Silver Star embroidered on it, a sky-blue ring, and three D-Grade Essences.
The ring was a token indicating a Personal Disciple in Asteria.
The image of Roman showing his ring to prove his identity flashed through Leon’s mind.
So Roman was... a Personal Disciple of Tella?
The ring had a minor additional function called Subspace.
“Your Mana Stone will be issued after a month.”
The man added, then unrolled a scroll to show the structure of the city and continued his explanation.
“Your lodging is here... and your Training Room is planned to be assigned next to Ria’s. Is that acceptable?”“That’s fine.”
After confirming Leon’s acceptance, Arpina nodded and turned around.
“Good work.”“Yes, ma’am.”
As Arpina, who had left the building, asked Leon,
“We’ve finished your identity registration... Is there anything else you need?”“Hmm, no. Nothing comes to mind right now.”“From now on, unless there’s something special, you can do the training you prefer. I’m also planning to enter into long training after finishing my research, so if you need anything, it would be good to tell me within three months. Other than that, you can tell Leisia.”“Training?”
Leon asked, as he had never seen Arpina concentrating on training.

“How do you think I became an elder here in just a year? It’s because I mainly did research that was helpful to the Magic Tower rather than my own training. Advanced Mystic realm is not that special here. And I don’t want to be caught up to by my disciple at my age.”
Her eyes seemed to reignite with a desire for realm ascension.
“Well, if you want to directly learn my Harmony’s Providence, you can come anytime.”“Thank you.”
Arpina took the opportunity to ask something she was curious about.
“So, how far have you mastered?”
After checking that no one was around, Leon conjured a 2-star Harmony’s Providence Spell Formula above his palm.He had now reached the stage just before learning 3-star, Arcane magic.
“It seems you have a separate main magic. Is it Laidra’s magic as expected?”
Reaching Intermediate Arcane but not being able to use 3-star magic meant there was a separate Arcane magic he had learned.Arpina had seen Leon use electric shock magic when fighting the Black Mage.
As Leon nodded, Arpina muttered nonchalantly.
“Another reason to raise my realm has appeared.”“I’m already receiving a lot of help.”“You don’t need to give me lip service. ...Oh, by the way.”
As if suddenly remembering something, Arpina brought up a new topic.
“Tomorrow, the Tower Master said he’s calling the Personal Disciples of the elders to give them teachings. Do you want to join? It might be good to familiarize yourself with their faces.”
