Transcending Realms With My Leveling System As A Demon-Chapter 66: The Death He Had To Watch
Catch!
"Z-Zylus," Fred took a glance down into the clouds, "W-what, a-are you doing?" He asked, now grabbing the cliff with both hands.
Zylus stared down menacingly, but he couldn’t face him eye to eye, it was because he had wronged Fred.
"As I said," Zylus bent down, his red eyes had a Demonic shine, "it’s for the greater good, I don’t take joy in it."
Fred attempted to pick himself up, but he barely had enough strength to hold on to the cliff. Zylus, in one breath, had lightly pushed Fred off the cliff, but somehow, with his little instincts, he caught on just in time.
"Surprised you haven’t switched forms anymore from panic," Zylus wondered out loud, "I guess that means there’s a limit. Not that it matters now."
Fred stared down once more, "Zylus! Please, what happened?! I thought you were different from the rest!" Fred thought he could make Zylus more sensitive to what he was doing.
"You see, Fred," Zylus whispered, "you’re too dangerous, even for me. It’s either now I get rid of you, or those Spirits will take use of you somehow. I’m doing you a favor."
"B-but, you’re a human! Just like me-"
"I’m not," Zylus turned his back, "I should’ve told you this earlier, but I’m a Demon."
Fred shook, tears fell down his face as he looked down, into the clouds, without fear, without a shred of panic.
"Oh, I see," Fred was clearly saddened, "this whole world is corrupt because of you Demons!"
Zylus didn’t want to listen to Fred’s constant yelling, so he decided to kick one of his arms off the cliff.
Thump!
Fred now hung with his right arm, trying to acknowledge the situation he was now placed in.
It was a tough sight, even for Zylus, but he had to let this go; Fred was either going to be used by the rest, or he was going to die here peacefully. The reason Zylus didn’t just cut him up himself was that he couldn’t. He couldn’t stand seeing an innocent civilian die whom he didn’t bear any hatred towards.
"So..." Fred calmed down, "what are you going to do after you kill me?" He asked, "Or toss me off this cliff." He looked down once more, but no shivers went down his spine.
"Isn’t that obvious?" Zylus questioned, "I’m going to eradicate every Spirit alive, then go for the Gods who don’t see a single thing going on in this crucified world."
"I see," Fred calmly whispered, "they say don’t let the whale go underneath the ocean."
"Because it’ll jump back with a water cannon." Zylus finished his sentence, his glare darkened.
Fred started lifting his thumb while hanging onto the cliff, clearly tiring himself out from simply hanging there and chatting.
"Now I know why I’ve been cursed my entire life," Fred blatantly said, "it’s because of people like you, Demons like you."
Zylus sighed, "Okay..." he paused, bending downwards, "then do something about it."
Fred tried hanging on a couple of seconds longer, one more stare down, and he realized once he falls, it’s over.
"I’ll come back to you," Fred frowned, he glared intently back at Zylus, "even if I die here, I’ll still come back to erase your kind."
Fred then dropped both his hands, and as he closed his eyes, the wind pressure made Zylus’s final words deafening.
"I’d like to see you try."
And just like that, he dropped Fred into whatever was placed below the clouds, into the abyss. But just before Zylus watched him fall, an unease feeling spiked down his spine. Yet, it was the fact that he had come this far, the fact that he had matured enough to kill somebody innocent.
"Hey, Clare," Zylus whispered, tapping twice on his right ear to see if the earbud was still working.
"What’s up, Zylus?" She questioned back.
"Nothing, just glad that you’re safe." He said, with a serious face.
"U-uhmm, Zylus..." Clare paused, "What’s that supposed to mean?!" She yelled.
Zylus giggled, "Nothing, but anyway. Who helped us infiltrate the human academy?" He asked.
"What academy?" Clare asked, weirdly, "Wait, where even are you?!"
"I see now," Zylus whispered, "he played with your memories by making the strongest cadet come here. And once I defeated him, everything went back to normal." He said calmly. "I’m just glad Clare remembers who I am, better than nothing."
Jace, from the beginning, manipulated Clare into taking Zylus here. Jace himself gave her the exact coordinates so he could come here. But now, Zylus caught on quickly, and this place felt unreal at one point, yet Zylus continued.
...
One by one, Zylus decided to hide the bodies he killed. Of course, he did it with shame; that human aspect would never change from him. He was always one to feel bad for others, to always take remorse for his actions.
"May God be with you." Zylus sadly said, each dead body, he buried.
They were properly buried beneath the ground, a flower on each of them, to express the care he holds for a life.
"Once again," Zylus;s hands stuck together as he prayed, "everything around me disappeared."
"Zylus," Clare whispered in the mic, "where are you, and are you coming back?" She asked calmly.
"Soon, don’t worry." He said, looking up at the night sky, "surprised I didn’t see more magical beasts."
Soon, every student walked by Zylus as he saw each of them. All the graves he made were buried beneath the forest, so no one would be able to see them.
"Oh my gosh, he’s still so cute!"
"He survived on his own!"
Whispers around the students filled the air, as Zylus watched them.
"Hey Zylus," a random boy asked, "how many flowers did you pick out?" He let off a smirk.
"Flowers? None," Zylus replied.
"Hah!" He laughed, "I picked up a rare dazy! Now I’ll get all the girls!"
Just then, that boy started walking with those students once more.
Zylus grabbed his coat, "Wait," he whispered. The boy paused. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
"What’s up?"
"Did you forget about Lucas, Jace, and those two random boys, and of course, Eldra?" He asked.
"What are you talking about?" The boy paused, "Did this flower-picking trip drive your head mad?" He asked, staying there for a second.
Zylus just paused; he started giggling. The boy left him, weirded at his behavior.
"I see," Zylus whispered, "this entire time, this whole thing, was just my hallucination."
And just then, he closed his eyes.
"I’m back."
