Transmigrated As A Baby Villain-Chapter 52: Night Visitor II
At exactly six in the morning, the Red King woke up from his slumber.
Jay knew that because he felt a kiss on his cheek after a pair of collosal hands scooped him up from the comfort of his blanket. The baby groaned in response to being woken up.
Can’t he sleep a little longer? He had a rough night last night. His eyes squinted at a clock at the other side of the room to focus. Yep, it’s exactly 6:05.
By seven, the sun wasn’t even fully out yet, but he was already stuffed full of cereal and seated on the motorcycle. He’s still sleepy, but he could always take a little nap right now. The only downside is the road are bumpy, but JJ will definitely hold him through all of that.
Just as he’s about to doze off to his parents’ constant argument about minor stuff like what type of dyed used to paint their helmets, he caught sight of something in the trees.
Oh, shit.
He forgot that he told Eugene fucking Romanov to show up at seven in the morning and follow them to their new daily routine.
Did that guy even go home and wash himself? He looked exactly the same as he did when Jay last saw him in the middle of the night.
"Just start driving, you dum— big guy. We’ll be late if you don’t!" JJ corrected herself as she slapped her partner’s bicep from behind.
"Fine, fine!" The Red King rolled his eyes, but there’s a huge smile on his face as he turned around to start the motorcycle. He clearly won whatever argument they had.
As they were leaving the property, Jay kept his eyes on the treelines, but he eventually fell asleep.
His nap was interrupted when they got to their destination. His female caretaker gently shook him after she got off the motorcycle. The baby grunted at her as he rubbed his eyes.
At the edge of the city, a slum was hidden in plain sight, partially inside of an abandoned junkyard and extending into the rest of the rocky property. They would never have found it if it wasn’t for a kid recognizing his caretakers after attempting to rob them. The transmigrator forgot what the kid’s name was, but apparently, the preteen met his parents during the war, and they promised to keep each other’s existence a secret.
No one, especially normal middle class citizens and the USC, should know that the Red King isn’t dead. None of the people who support the current government should know about the slum’s existence either.
However, Jay is leading the last Wonder Soldier straight to it. Hell, he doesn’t even know if Eugene is still following them.
At the center of the slum laid a well, which is the source of fresh water for every citizen there. The mayor of the slum is a very badass woman with an eye patch, codename Pirate. She was about to beg JJ to help her, but the teenage girl beat her to it and expanded the well in just one afternoon. Then, she collapsed, so the little family had to spend the night in Pirate’s tent.
That was a week ago, now Jay was being carried towards the well. His female caregiver began checking the newly renovated well for any cracks.
At this point, the transmigrator stopped questioning JJ’s powers. It seems like she has the base of telekinesis powers, but she could only move things on an atomic level. Thus, she could transmute silverware into golden coins, fix the leaking well, and theoretically, she could heal people too, but the transmigrator had never seen her done it before. If she were to heal people, would it take almost just as long as a natural healing process?
He couldn’t help but think... Is she interested in chemistry because of her powers or chemistry is what brought out her powers? Wait, the System said came from a family of elite scientists? So would it be normal for her family to teach her all of the sciency subjects like chemistry, biology and physics?
His internal monologue was cut short when he spotted another motorcycle coming into the slum. The residents immediately pulled out their weapons as soon as the motorcycle entered their territory. All guns and knives and even hammers were pointed at the last Wonder Soldier.
Compared to everything here, Eugene and his polished black bike looked very out of place.
Slowly, the Wonder Soldier took off his helmet and placed it on his motorcycle. His resting face alone was enough for some of the locals to scream.
"A Wonder Soldier!" One of the residents yelled. "We’re doomed!"
"I thought they’re all dead!"
"Technically, Red King was a Wonder Soldier, so not all of them are dead—"
"Shut up, kid! Get Pirate!" An rugged man yelled at the teenage, and the boy ran off towards Pirate’s tent.
The arms holding Jay’s hand tightened, so he looked up at his female caretaker.
"Mom?" The toddler squeezed her hand.
"If you’re not here to help us rebuild, then get the fuck out." The Red King’s baritone echoed through the narrows streets. "Eugene, you already destroyed their lives once, you don’t gotta do it again."
"I’m here to help!" Eugene lifted both of his hands up in surrender. "I’m not with the USC."
His words sent a wave of grumbling and whispers throughout the crowd surrounding him. Jay’s lips hung open for a second before a smile came on.
Oh, Eugene really wants to make a change.
Saving him is worth it, after all.
"A Wonder Soldier not with the USC?" Pirate’s snarl could be heard from across the crowd. "You’re serious? Look, boy. We all know that any Wonder Soldier in duty is with the USC and United Earth. All they do is destroy."
The residents of the slums made way for her as she dragged herself towards the Last Wonder Soldier. Her prosthetic leg is weighing her down, but she didn’t accept the Red King’s offer to replace it.
"Yes, ma’am." The blond man stared at her for a bit, and his crimson eyes widened in recognition. "I retired, so I’m not deployed by the USC."
Huh, they must’ve met before or during the war, then.
"I retired after the war officially ended." Eugene admitted as his eyes scanned his crowd. "And I’m not gonna go back to them. I’m trying to reconnect with my brother."
All eyes were on the Red King this time. The teenage boy stood his ground, and his chin was lifted up. Jay couldn’t tell if his caretaker was being prideful or he’s trying to send a message to his brother to not mess with the community.
"And how will you contribute?" Pirate’s voice didn’t quiver as she took two steps towards him. "We already have enough mouths to feed here."
For a quick second, the transmigrator could see the words sank into Eugene’s brain. The Wonder Soldier didn’t expect to be another "mouth to feed" because he didn’t expect that the slum to give him anything in return. Hell, he even expected more hostility with the weapons pointed at him, yet no one tried to kill him so far.
Jay really thought that deep down, Eugene definitely knew what he was doing during the war was wrong, but he also never wanted to face the consequences of rebelling because the USC doesn’t treat traitors well. Since he was retired, the USC might’ve stopped breathing down his neck.
"I can get you canned food." The Last Wonder Soldier took his time answer the question. His deep red eyes moved from Pirate to the rest of the slum residents. "And flour. Anything from town that you want or need. Anything that’s within my power. Tell me, and I’ll find a way."
"Kill the Council!" A old man yelled.
"That’s just not possible." The Last Wonder Soldier sighed heavily. "A single person can easily be overpowered by an entire army."
"How about bring us some canned beef?" The young boy with large brown eyes asked.
The Wonder Soldier looked at him and smiled. "Yeah, I can do that."
"Thor," Pirate called for her son, and the brow eyed boys snapped his head at her. "Canned beef can wait. What we need now is medicine."
While the crowd was whispering to each other, discussing what they can ask Eugene to bring, the Red King suddenly picked the baby transmigrator up from the ground.
"Dada, whyyy??" Jay groaned as he was settled into the teenage boy’s arms, taking his attention away from the last Wonder Soldier. Even though he’s technically a one year old toddler, he still enjoys running around and exploring on his own.
Given the circumstances of their current situation, the baby transmigrator didn’t see a reason for his male caregiver to be so tense and over protective.
Once the toddler was safe in his arms, the Red King leaned in closer to his partner. "Jay, you’re really sure it’s them?"
"Probably. I can feel a tracker coming our way. It might just be one of the residents." JJ whispered back.
A tracker? Huh?
Before Jay could hear more about what JJ had to say about "the trackers," a gun shot was heard from the northern gate of the junkyard, followed by an ear-ringing "bong bong bong bong" echoing throughout the slum as a resident slammed her hammer on a sheet of metal.
"Raiders!" Thor yelled out to the newcomers while the slum residents began picking up their weapons once more.
