Transmigrated As A Villain, The Heroines Are Also Regressors?-Chapter 145: Intruder
Ronald couldn’t help but panic internally as he watched the spirit devourer Iris’s soul fragments little by little.
Even though he had a strong feeling that Iris had planned for this creature to devourer parts of her soul, he couldn’t believe she was actually willingly doing something this insane.
And simply for what?
Strength? Blessing? Power?
None of those outweigh a fraction of a soul!
A soul is a soul after all!
It might not seem like a big deal at first since people can still survive and live in their physical bodies as long as they still retain a fraction of their soul, however, there is so much problems that can stem from a damaged soul that he couldn’t even fit them all on a list.
The two key things to note, though, are that cultivators with a damaged soul can’t progress beyond a certain cultivation realm, and that a damaged soul is much harder to refine.
Now, the second one was especially serious for cultivators, as cultivators who wanted to achieve longevity and eventually become an immortal must have at least their souls refined to a certain extent before they can even begin their path to ascension.
As the common saying goes, "A cracked soul severs the path to the Dao, while a nourished soul paves the way to longevity."
So for most sane, and even insane, cultivators, having an extremely damaged soul is 1000 times worse than death itself.
And yet, here Iris was, letting her soul get eaten away!
’Sigh, why am I even upset over this.’
Generally speaking, Iris getting her soul damaged like this should be a good thing for him, right?
After all, if Iris’s soul is damaged enough, then she most likely won’t past a certain point where she was confident enough in killing Ye Fan and all of his backers.
But yet for some reason, he wasn’t too happy at the thought that Iris was sacrificing parts of her soul for whatever reason it may be.
Was it perhaps because he was starting to care for her?
’...’
’Pwhahahahah...’
Yeah, what a funny joke.
So what is it then?
Even though Ronald questioned why, truthfully, he knew the reason why already.
’It’s because she’s doing it for me.’
But obviously, that’s not what he wanted for her to do.
What he truly wanted was to peacefully lay on the grass, gaze up upon the starry night skies, and watch the moon illuminate beautifully, not as the Ronald Kuangge in this world, but as the Ronald Kuangge in earth.
But oh well, that clearly won’t be happening anytime soon.
While Ronald was reminiscing about the simplier times he had back on earth, he noticed that the spirit suddenly stopped devourering Iris’s soul, and so he turned his head to see what happened.
And as he expected, Iris killed the spirit by smashing the amulet on the ground, causing the talisman to activate and send a shockwave, invisible to the human eye, through the amulet.
What he didn’t expect though was for Iris to smash the amulet again, and this time she smashed it so hard that the ground shook lightly for a few seconds.
Then when the amulet shattered into pieces, as it obviously should, Iris picked up a plump black seed shaped object that was in the amulet and placed it at the center of her eyebrows.
Immediately, the seed slowly disappeared at the center of Iris’s eyebrows, and at the same time, her temperament briefly changed.
Instead of her usual cold and icy temperament, she now had the demeanor of a malevolent god, looking down upon the mortal realm with disgust.
The moment lasted for a microsecond though, and Iris’s original temperament returned shortly after.
If Ronald hadn’t been a high-level cultivator, he would’ve not seen this demanor of hers, or the process of her putting the seed in her head whatsoever.
Iris finally got up from her lotus position after that, and she walked over to Ronald as if nothing had ever happened.
"I’m finished now, Young Master. Thank you for your patience." Iris bowed politely.
"No problem..." Ronald looked weirdly at Iris as he spoke.
Although he knew what the seed was and what it did, he still didn’t understand why Iris allowed the spirit to eat parts of her soul, nor did he understand why she showed a horrifying temperament like that.
The seed was called an eclipse vein seed, an extremely rare seed that feeds off of yin qi and appears only once every couple of century, and depending on the spirit that was trapped in the seed, the user of the seed could gain special abilities.
And judging by the fact that he could sense yin qi in Iris’s dantian now, it was clear that the one-eyed soul devourer that was trapped in the seed had changed her body constitution, allowing her to cultivate yin qi without any consequences now.
But the seed shouldn’t have any side effects that would make her give off a temperament like that, and she certainly didn’t need to sacrifice fragments of her soul like that in order to change her body constitution.
She could’ve just skipped that part and simply broken the amulet to absorb the seed to begin with!

But whatever, that was Iris’s decision, not his.
"Ready to finally head back now?" Ronald took one last look at the amulet shards and asked.
"Yes, Young Master, and I’m sorry for making you wait like this."
"It’s whatever, let’s just get going." Ronald waved off Iris’s apology and left the graveyard.
Iris followed closely behind him, but when she saw her reflection while walking by one of the polished gravestones, she briefly paused for a moment, and her face darkened.
She already knew that her fate was sealed the moment she had stabbed her hand with the dagger, but she didn’t expect to start following down the same path she had taken in her previous life this early on.
But for Ronald’s sake, there was no path she wasn’t willing to go down.
Even if she had to enter hell itself and completely destroy it inside out just so Ronald wouldn’t even get a single scratch on him, she wouldn’t hesitate to do it.
With that in mind, Iris stopped staring at her reflection, and continued to follow him back home.

"So get this Iris, while you were doing your meditation or whatever, I read on the news that a somewhat famous calligraphy artist was coming over to the capital city in the next couple of days to publicly showcase his latest pieces of calligraphy. You think I should go to the party and check what calligraphy is all about?" Since this was the next upcoming plot that Ronald needed to participate in, he stated his lines accordingly to the original novel while sat in the backseat of his BMW.
Of course, since he was still supposed to be trapped and beaten up by Gu Yuan at this point in time, he wasn’t meant to say this line until the day before the upcoming plot, but he decided to state it now just for the sake of it.
"It’s up to you, Young Master, but I would advise against it." Iris didn’t really react much when she heard this, and she replied monotonously as she drove the car.
She remembered in her previous life that the calligraphy artist Ronald was talking about was a person who absolutely loathed rich second-generations, and extremely rich people in general due to the fact that most of them were prideful and egotistic.
So when Ronald had gone to the calligraphy artist’s party in his previous life, the calligraphy artist showed him almost no face and did the bare minimum to acknowledge his presence.
Obviously, this enraged Ronald, and he started causing trouble at the party.
But since Ronald was the only rich second-generation attending the party, and all the other guests were either from an upper-middle class or middle class family, nobody stopped him and either sided with him or ignored his blatant outburst.
Iris was also there with him when he attended the calligraphy artist’s party though, and after she made a secret phone call behind his back, Ye Fan showed up.
Ye Fan then obviously embarrassed Ronald, which made Ronald call Gu Changsheng to help him out, and while Gu Changsheng didn’t personally show up afterwards, he sent a couple of police officers his family had on payroll to shut the party down.
This led to Ye Fan calling Gu Changsheng’s father and embarrassing both the officers and Ronald once again, making the two parties leave the party in shame.
And while that did mark the end for Ronald’s antics for the day, Iris was pretty sure that something else happened in the party after that since Ye Fan had an extremely happy expression the next day she secretly met up with him, but she didn’t know what made him so happy, nor did she care about it.
Of course, she was sure that Ye Fan wouldn’t, or even be able to, show up to the party this time around, but she still adviced against it because she didn’t want people glaring at Ronald while he was causing a ruckus.
"Well I’m attending it anyways. I gotta see why calligraphy is so well praised when all you do is add a bunch of squiggly lines on inspirational quotes." Ronald mocked as Iris drove the car into the mansion’s parking garage.
Once parked, Ronald got out of the car and headed to the garage door.
When he was about to reach his hand out and turn the doorknob however, Iris stopped him.
"Wait." Iris took out her dagger, reverse gripped it, and stood in the way between Ronald and the door.
She noticed that the garage door’s doorknob had been slightly tampered with, and there was a small, almost imperceptible scratch near the base of the knob. A scratch that hadn’t been there when she left through the garage door this morning.
And while it wasn’t obvious enough what caused this scratch at first glance, since she had previously done this mistake while she was still an amateur assassin back then, she knew...
"Someone’s broken inside. Wait here, Young Master."
Without waiting for Ronald to respond, Iris turned the doorknob and quickly entered the house without making a single sound at all.
Since it was night out, and the house lights weren’t turned on, it was almost pitch black inside, with the only light source radiating from the moon.
Iris excelled at navigating through dark places however, and since her senses were enhanced by her cultivation, she easily managed to trace the intruder’s footsteps into the basement.
When she approached the basement door, she could sense that Lai Ho was still unconsciously breathing, but she couldn’t sense anyone else from the other side.
Based on experience though, coupled with the fact that there was no exit point in the basement besides through this door, she deduced that the intruder was still inside the basement, and he had laid out a trap in the basement.
As such, Iris didn’t try to stealthily enter and kicked down the door.
BANG!
All of the hinges came flying off of the door, causing the door to also fly off and crash into the other side of the room, just barely missing Lai Ho’s body by a few inches.
Iris then quickly entered the basement, but instead of taking the staircases down, she jumped off the ledge.
Not even a millisecond after she jumped off however, she saw a lightning bolt shot directly up the staircases, as she predicted.
The lightning bolt obviously missed her, and after she landed on the ground and saw the silhouette of the intruder turn his head at her, she didn’t immediately rush in for an attack and flicked the light switch next to her instead.
And there Iris saw him, a boy who didn’t appear to be older than a high schooler, staring at her with a surprised look on his face.
She didn’t know who this high schooler was, but judging by the fact that she couldn’t sense qi from him, combined with the strength of the lightning he had shot from his fist earlier, and the fact that this kid was in the basement, she deduced that he must be the cultivator Lai Ho had mentioned earlier, Ling Feng.
And it seems that he was a cultivator that hid his cultivation realm well, rather than one who was significantly stronger than her.
But even if Ling Feng was a cultivator who was significantly stronger than her, she had no intentions of backing out.
With that in mind, she got into her fighting stance, waiting for the perfect time to strike.
As she waited however, Ling Feng suddenly spoke out first.
"What? Iris?"
