Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 133: The So-Called Doctor-Nurse Relationship
Yi Roujing watched Qin Suyun and Lou Wenjian leave the consultation room and knew that the matter regarding Hu Ailing was about to be exposed. She had no idea how it would turn out, but Yi Roujing had already made up her mind. After work, she planned to head to the County Government Staff Residential Area.
"Nurse, can we have the next patient come in?" Lei Zhenzhong reminded Yi Roujing to get her attention as she hadn’t moved.
Even though Yi Roujing had been distracted, she showed no signs of anything being amiss upon regaining her composure, acting like someone completely obedient while working with an expert from Jing City for the first time.
When it came to orthopedics, Yi Roujing really didn’t have much experience, though she knew how to set bones. Yet, she wasn’t naive enough to show off her skills in front of an expert; today, she was just there to observe.
Lei Zhenzhong, after all, was getting on in years, so he was only seeing patients in the morning today. After the last patient of the morning, Yi Roujing could go for lunch.
Mr. Chen personally welcomed Lei Zhenzhong, and Yi Roujing was invited to join them for lunch with the expert.
In this era, even social engagements were simple; one couldn’t drink due to work, so it was soda instead. The meal was better than usual, and without the annoying atmosphere of toasting, the meal felt very pleasant.
"Aihua." After the meal, Lei Zhenzhong saw Wu Aihua walk into the cafeteria and called them with a face full of affection.
"Sir Lei." Wu Aihua, like a child, rushed forward and hugged Lei Zhenzhong’s arm, shaking it a few times. "I was thinking of taking you out for a good stroll since you’re here today."
"I’ll treat you to dinner tonight. Your grandparents sent quite a bit of stuff over, worried that their good granddaughter wouldn’t eat or sleep well here." Lei Zhenzhong said with a laugh.
"Old Chen, Aihua’s grandparents are my neighbors, and I’ve watched this child grow up. Her parents work here, so she came along too. She chose your hospital right after graduating from medical school." Lei Zhenzhong explained.
"Our hospital welcomes young, promising doctors like Doctor Wu." Mr. Chen said appropriately and politely.
"Comrade Yi Roujing, tomorrow Expert Lei will still be seeing patients for half a day, so you’ll continue to assist," Mr. Chen said, looking at Yi Roujing. She readily agreed.
"Sir Lei, how’s our nurse Yi Roujing?" Wu Aihua said with a flicker of mischief in her eyes. "Although she’s only got a middle school diploma, her practical skills are excellent. After all, a nurse just needs to know how to give injections, set up IVs, and assist doctors well."
"Doctor Wu may not know since you’ve never been a nurse," Yi Roujing said with a smile. "Nursing is not just about simple injections and IVs; it requires understanding medical principles, reading prescriptions, and alleviating patients’ emotions. You also have to adapt to different doctors actively."
"That’s just for the outpatient nurses. The ones who follow doctors into surgery are even more specialized."
"How should I put it, nurses and doctors are indispensable partners, essential for the daily operations of a hospital. They must respect each other, yet be independent, monitoring, and progressing together for the better service of the people. It’s not just assisting."
"Doctor Wu, don’t you agree?" Yi Roujing asked Wu Aihua with an innocent smile.
Wu Aihua looked at Yi Roujing’s seemingly false and pretty smile, feeling the urge to rip it off—why was this person always clashing with her?
"Comrade Yi Roujing speaks very well," Mr. Chen said, his eyes gleaming at Yi Roujing. "Can I use what you just said? I’d like to print those words on the hospital’s perimeter wall and include them in our hospital’s introduction."
Yi Roujing smiled and nodded. "As long as Mr. Chen doesn’t mind, I have no problem."
"The words from this nurse don’t sound like they come from someone without education," Lei Zhenzhong said with some doubt.
Yi Roujing said a little embarrassed, "Actually, I self-studied all high school subjects, thinking going to school cost money, so I didn’t go. However, this month, I’ll be taking the final exam at County First Middle School. If I pass, I’ll get a high school diploma."
"I heard that Nurse Yi Roujing’s husband is a teacher at County First Middle School," Wu Aihua said, though not overtly, implying doubt.
"Yes, thanks to my husband’s recommendation, I can take the final exam without enrolling in classes. But during the exam, I’ll still rely on my true capabilities. County First Middle School has a long-standing reputation and doesn’t condone cheating, as tarnishing the school’s name isn’t something anyone can bear." Yi Roujing confidently replied.
"I just found out that Comrade Yi Roujing’s husband is Teacher Ding Ancheng. Expert Lei might not know him, but he surely knows Ding Ancheng’s teacher," Mr. Chen hinted.
"Oh, who would that be?" Lei Zhenzhong asked.
"Ding Ancheng graduated from the mathematics department at Jing University, completing all courses in just two years and always first. Professor Yan valued him greatly and took him as his last student," Mr. Chen said with a chuckling tone.
"Yan Ming, Professor Yan’s student?" Lei Zhenzhong said, extremely surprised.
Mr. Chen nodded.
"To become Yan Ming’s last student is remarkable. Why didn’t he stay in Jing City?"
"That, I don’t know," Mr. Chen said, glancing at Yi Roujing, giving a sense of feigned ignorance.
Lei Zhenzhong looked at Yi Roujing with a knowing smile, which made her blush. It truly wasn’t her affair, but she couldn’t say anything.
Wu Aihua secretly bit her lip tightly, her eyes filled with indignation. Why did it turn out like this? Clearly just a rural person with little education, claiming to take final exams as if it’s a certainty, without having even taken or seen the results.
"Aihua, don’t get upset." One of Lei Zhenzhong’s students, a refined-looking young man named Wen Zhongmin, secretly comforted Wu Aihua, "I’ll help you vent tomorrow."
Upon hearing this, Wu Aihua’s eyes lit up.
Yi Roujing wasn’t aware of their conversation; her main concern was still Hu Ailing.
In the County Government Staff Residential Area, Lou Chongshang, as the county leader, naturally had a standalone employee house—two stories with a yard.
Lou Chongshang and Qin Suyun had two sons and a daughter. The eldest, Lou Wenjian, was twenty-eight this year; the second son, Lou Wenkang, was twenty-six, already married with a child. Both worked in government offices, and their child, four years old, was already in the government kindergarten. The youngest daughter, now twenty-two, got married last year.
So after Qin Suyun and the other two returned home, there was no one else in the large house.
"Mom, I have something to tell you." As soon as they entered the living room, Lou Wenjian stood up, walked to Qin Suyun, and looked at her with particularly serious eyes.
Hu Ailing’s face turned deathly pale; her entire body felt weak. She had a voice inside telling her to stop it, but no matter how hard she tried, her mouth wouldn’t open. Indeed, things needed to be clarified. If it didn’t work out, she would find another place.
