Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 67: Sudden Intimacy
"What did you gain from the last trip south?" Gu Shizhao asked seriously, "By the way, when are you going to Jing City? If you don’t recognize your ancestors and return to your roots, your family assets might be taken by outsiders."
"The photos have already been sent over." Ding Ancheng replied.
"Hey, you’re quite something. Your old man has received them, wonder if he will be so excited that he’ll end up in the hospital." Gu Shizhao joked.
"Worry about yourself." Ding Ancheng raised an eyebrow, "When can you come back to the city?"
"Planning to a bit later."
"If you’re uneasy, just keep her close, watching from afar does no good." Ding Ancheng kindly reminded, "Otherwise, you could return and deal with the Gu Family once and for all."
"Can’t compare to you, still lacking a bit." Gu Shizhao’s expression turned a bit solemn.
"If there’s anything you need help with, just say the word, as long as you pay." Ding Ancheng offered generously.
"Thanks a lot." Gu Shizhao sincerely said.
Once the dishes arrived, a full five bowls of food and a large bowl of wonton noodles, Ding Ancheng served Yi Roujing with a small bowl before eating himself.
The small wontons had thin skins, though the meat filling was not abundant, the flavor was quite good. Yi Roujing couldn’t stop after one bite. The soup had a fragrant bone broth base with a few drops of sesame oil; the noodles were smooth and chewy. Without any side dishes, Yi Roujing only ate a small bowl.
Seeing Yi Roujing enjoying her meal so much, Ding Anmin also wanted to try it. As she extended her spoon, the large bowl of wonton noodles had already been pushed in front of Yi Roujing by Ding Ancheng.
"If you like it, eat more. If you can’t finish the rice, don’t worry about it." Ding Ancheng said while continuing to serve, placing a small plate with moderately lean and fatty braised pork, and de-boned fish, which he then pushed in front of Yi Roujing, "Have some of the dishes."
Ding Anmin felt somewhat disappointed, glancing over at Ding Anguo, who was cheerfully devouring white rice, meat, and eggs without any worry.
Ding Anmin had a thought; perhaps she should also get married and was a bit concerned about Ding Anguo’s carefree attitude, making it difficult to find a bride.
At the neighboring table, Song Yiluo faced Yi Roujing’s table, observing Ding Ancheng’s every move, gripping her chopsticks tightly to prevent herself from angrily leaving the table.
Ding Ancheng, always polite but actually quite aloof to every girl, Song Yiluo thought he was just that way. But now, seeing his treatment towards Yi Roujing...is it simply because Yi Roujing is his wife?
If she were his wife, would she be the one receiving such attentive treatment?
This thought lingered persistently in Song Yiluo’s mind.
Yi Roujing, having eaten her fill, looked up to meet Song Yiluo’s gaze full of jealousy, similar to Li Xipei’s before.
Yi Roujing felt troubled; she didn’t really care whether Li Xipei liked Ding Ancheng or not, but Song Yiluo was different.
Had she not come, in a few years, it would be Song Yiluo standing beside Ding Ancheng, being addressed as Mrs. Xu.
Only death, not divorce, this is what Ding Ancheng had said, but now what should she do?
Thinking about this, Yi Roujing turned her head, and met Ding Ancheng’s deep eyes.
"Are you full?"
"Oh." Yi Roujing nodded.
"We’ll leave in a bit." Ding Ancheng reached out to rub Yi Roujing’s hair before getting up to fetch the packed buns.
With Ding Ancheng and Ding Anguo present, the food on the table was devoured cleanly. After a few words with Gu Shizhao, Ding Ancheng’s group got up and left.
"Anmin, can we leave together? We’re also staying at the county guesthouse." Tong Dongxue stood up and waved.
"Sure." Ding Anmin agreed immediately.
"It’s already dark, and we two girls are a bit scared, thinking since you’re here, we might as well wait for you." Tong Dongxue explained, wiping oil from the corner of her mouth with a smile.
"By the way Yiluo, thank you, I haven’t eaten so well in a long time." Straight-shooting Tong Dongxue chatted away down the road.
But she knew her limits, only speaking with Ding Anmin and Song Yiluo, not a word to the two gentlemen.
Song Yiluo and Tong Dongxue were staying on the first floor, while Yi Roujing and the others were on the second floor. Ding Ancheng didn’t stop, following them upstairs.
"Isn’t Ding going back to school?" Song Yiluo watched the four figures disappear at the staircase, muttering.
Tong Dongxue looked at Song Yiluo with surprise, "Yiluo, why ask such a silly question? Ding’s wife is here, why would he leave?"
Yi Roujing entered the room, plopped onto a chair, still pondering over Song Yiluo’s situation.
"How do you plan to take this treasure back or leave it with me directly?"
Yi Roujing turned to see it was Ding Ancheng, not Ding Anmin, who’d followed her inside.
"Ah?" Yi Roujing was lost in thought, responding slowly, "If you’re going to sell it, just leave it with you."
"What’s wrong?" Ding Ancheng bent over, placing a hand over Yi Roujing’s head, "Ever since dinner, you seem distracted."
"Is your knee still hurting?" Ding Ancheng tried to check but Yi Roujing blocked him, "It doesn’t hurt anymore."
"I’ve been thinking about us and the future." Yi Roujing was straightforward, especially since she couldn’t figure it out herself, she might as well say it, letting the person involved think it through.
"I am currently in the position of being your wife, but if someone you like suddenly appears, am I not in the way, potentially ruining your marriage?" Yi Roujing seriously considered this question and stated it sincerely.
Because of this, Ding Ancheng’s eyelid twitched upon hearing, a storm stirred at the bottom of his gaze, as he reached out, lifting Yi Roujing from the chair and tossing her onto the bed.
"Ah—" Startled, Yi Roujing bounced on the bed a few times, still processing what happened when the weight pressed down.
Her hands were squeezed together by a large hand and pinned to the headboard, her chin fixed in place, surrounded by warm breath, her gaze met an unfathomable pair of eyes.
"You, you, what’s wrong?" Ding Ancheng’s actions were unlike his usual self, Yi Roujing struggled a bit but couldn’t break free, inadvertently rubbing against the person pressing her.
"Hey, hey, let go of me, you... mmm..."
A weight pressed on her lips, swallowing the words Yi Roujing wanted to say, leaving her mind a blank.
The world suddenly quiet.
"Big brother, I’ll go wash up first, I’m here for..." Ding Anmin pushed the door open, almost dislocating her jaw upon seeing the two stacked together, mouths pressed. Her instinctive reaction led her to close the door forcefully, not forgetting to remind, "Key, key’s on the door, I, I’ll take it."
