Chapter 66: Ch:66 Her Name Was Nari
The void cracked with tension.
Dila screamed, her voice echoing in the vast emptiness:
"Stop! I don’t want to hear it anymore!"
Her breath shivered.
Her hands shook.
"Nari...!"
She gasped in desperation.
"Where are you? Nari—I need help!"
But no gentle voice answered.
Only silence...
Then laughter.
That laugh.
That cruel, distorted mimic of herself.
The chained Dila, hovering again in the dark with that grin of malice, leaned forward, her shadow lengthening.
"Ohh, you mean your magical power?" she said softly, mockingly.
"You mean her, don’t you?"
Dila’s eyes widened.
She whispered, "She’s my friend..."
But the distorted version burst out laughing again.
"Friend?" she sneered.
"You? You treat her like a tool. You always say..." —her voice dropped, deepened, imitated Dila’s tone perfectly—
’Shut up, Nari.’
She grinned wider.
’Not now, Nari.’
It snares. "And ohh!!, you sneak this words behind her back without in the scene."
’Quiet, Nari.’
The words rang like knives in Dila’s head.
"You never treated her like a friend," the other Dila hissed, eyes glowing even more fiercely.
"You treat everything like a game. Like you own this world."
The chained Dila leaned forward again.
"So tell me, Dila—"
Her mouth split into a twisted smile.
"Where is your power now?"
The shadows around her twitched like snakes.
Dila staggered back in the air, tears brimming in her eyes.
She was no longer sure if this was a dream, a curse...
...or the truth catching up to her.
Dila stood frozen in the endless dark.
No wind.
No sound.
Only the slow pulse of her breath... and the quiet shiver of her heart.
Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out.
Not even a whisper.
Her eyes, once bright with defiance, had dulled—dimmed like a dying ember.
She looked down.
Her hands hung by her sides.
Slack.
Helpless.
The floating dream version of her—the Distorted Dila—watched in eerie silence.
For once, she didn’t laugh.
Didn’t mock.
She just stared.
And the longer the silence lingered,
the more suffocating it became.
The chains rattled softly in the void.
The glow in the other Dila’s eyes dimmed—almost like disappointment.
But Dila didn’t lift her head.
Her face was cast in shadow.
Her bangs covered her eyes.
Her mouth was tight, but trembling.
She didn’t know anymore...
What to say.
What to feel.
What was real.
Was she a princess?
A gamer?
A hero?
Or just... someone who didn’t belong.
For now, she said nothing.
And the dream world only grew darker around her.
Suddenly, in the stillness of that endless void,
Dila clenched her trembling fists.
Her voice cracked at first—but she forced the words out.
"No... you’re wrong."
The Distorted Dila flinched slightly, her chained form tilting its head.
Dila slowly raised her head—her bangs falling away from her face, revealing teary but burning eyes.
"Even if I told her to shut up... even if I panicked or got frustrated—Nari’s always been there for me."
She stepped forward.
Her voice gained strength with every word.
"She’s not just magical power. Not just some system or A.I. She’s a part of my journey... my friend through thick and thin."
Dila swayed her right hand, trembling but determined, as if brushing away the shadows around her.
"I laughed with her.
I complained with her.
I confided in her when no one else could hear me."
The space around her began to flicker.
A faint light started to pulse beneath her feet—soft and blue, like starlight finding its way through darkness.
Tears rolled down her cheeks.
"And she never abandoned me.
Even when I was broken... when I was scared.
She stayed."
She held her heart.
"And I never... never abandoned her either."
Then Dila took another step toward the chained version of herself.
"Because Nari is my true friend... and I’ll never let you twist that."
The distorted Dila’s blue eyes widened.
Her smile faltered.
For the first time...
the chains rattled.
Cracks spidered through them—faint, but real.
The light from beneath Dila’s feet brightened.
A soft whisper echoed in the dark, familiar and fragile.
☆ M–Master... ☆
As the void shimmered with faint blue glows, the Distorted Dila paused.
Her glowing smile softened.
And then...
she whispered with a calm, almost peaceful tone:
"You’ve grown up."
With those words, her entire form cracked—like glass struck by light.
CRSHHHH—!
Shards of darkness burst outward, scattering into the glowing void like glittering fragments of shadow.
She faded with a smile still etched across her lips.
The echo of her presence vanished into silence.
And in that calm—
warmth arrived.
Soft arms wrapped gently around Dila’s waist from behind.
A faint pink light sparkled in the void, and Nari emerged.
Floating gently, only half Dila’s size, her delicate figure leaned close with her face resting against Dila’s back.
Her soft pink hair swayed like silk in the weightless air, and her eyes—usually glowing sparkling cosmos data screens—were now closed, peaceful, human-like.
☆ "Did you mean it...?" ☆
Her voice was fragile, uncertain... hopeful.
Dila gasped, just a little—her eyes wide in surprise.
Then she reached down—tenderly holding the small hands wrapped around her waist.
"Yes," she said, her voice calm and full of emotion.
"I’ve always meant it."
She turned gently—now facing Nari.
Nari opened her eyes.
No interface screen. No system voice. Just soft pink eyes filled with warmth.
Dila raised one hand, brushing a few strands of Nari’s silky hair behind her small ear.
She gently caressed Nari’s hair, smiling faintly.
"You’re my friend, Nari. My irreplaceable, sweet friend."
Nari closed her eyes again, nestling her forehead lightly against Dila’s chest.
☆ "Then I’ll always be with you, Master. Forever and ever..." ☆
As they floated together in the glowing dark, faint stars began to bloom around them.
The shattered void turned soft and luminous—like a starfield born from understanding.
Dila felt at peace.....
The stars in the void twinkled like quiet bells in a forgotten sky.
Dila turned slowly toward Nari, who was still floating beside her, legs swaying slightly like she was underwater.
"...Nari," she asked, her voice calm but thoughtful, "how do we get out of this place?"
Nari tilted her head, her soft pink eyes twinkling with mischief.
☆ "We don’t—not yet," ☆ she giggled sweetly.
☆ "Your body is still recovering, Master. You’ve been through a lot, so your mind drifted here. It’s not something you can force your way out of." ☆
Dila sighed gently, then gave a half-smile. "So I’m stuck."
☆ "Think of it as... rest time with me," ☆ Nari said, cheerfully swinging her legs mid-air.
☆ "Let’s enjoy it, just for a little while. You deserve that much." ☆
Dila chuckled softly. "I guess you’re right."
☆ "So~" ☆ Nari’s eyes sparkled. ☆ "Wanna play chess?" ☆
"Chess?" Dila raised a brow. "Where did that come from?"
☆ "You’re in your own dream! You can imagine anything you want. A castle! A dragon! Even a pancake tower!" ☆ Nari giggled and lifted her arms like a wizard.
Dila shook her head with a smile. "Nah. Let’s stick with chess. Something simple."
☆ "Yeheey~!" ☆ Nari cheered, spinning in the air.
As Dila thought about it, a floating chessboard materialized between them—hovering gently in the void. It spun once, then stopped, perfectly balanced.
Both girls sat on opposite ends, cross-legged in mid-air as if seated on invisible cushions.
"Nari," Dila asked while adjusting her pieces, "can I ask you something?"
☆ "Go ahead," ☆ Nari beamed. ☆ "You can ask anything." ☆
"You’re... really the source of my magic power, aren’t you?"
☆ "Yup~ Pretty much," ☆ Nari nodded proudly. ☆ "I’m your inner system, remember?" ☆
Dila leaned her chin on her hand, watching her knight piece.
"No wonder I could cast magic just like in the game... But now that I’m not in a game, I guess I should live this life properly. Might as well enjoy it."
Nari looked up from the board.
☆ "You don’t miss your old world?" ☆
Dila scoffed quietly. "Not even a little. That world was a daily death sentence. No love, no peace. My family? Hah, ruthless. They didn’t help me survive—only weighed me down."
Nari blinked, her smile slowly softening into something gentle.
☆ "Checkmate." ☆
Dila snapped back to the board, stunned. "Wha—? Already?"
Nari puffed her cheeks proudly, resting her hands on her waist.
☆ "Fu fu~ I am your system buddy after all, Master!" ☆
Dila laughed, really laughed this time—soft, real, and full of warmth.
"You never cease to amaze me," she said, smiling deeply.
In that moment, it didn’t matter that she was stuck in a dream.
Because even in that quiet void...
She wasn’t alone.
Meanwhile...
The night was quiet. The moonlight gently bathed the carriage in a silver glow as it rested along the dirt road, deep within the sleeping forest.
Inside, Dila lay curled around Fran beneath a soft blanket, both of them sound asleep. The only sounds were the soft breaths they shared—steady, peaceful.
The masked man gently adjusted the edge of the blanket over Dila’s shoulder.
But then... he froze.
A strange sensation crawled along his spine—like static in the air, a low hum of immense magical pressure. His eyes narrowed.
"...What is this...?"
He turned his head sharply left, then right—peering into the darkness of the forest, scanning for a threat. The trees swayed gently in the wind, but there was no beast, no monster.
His heart pounded.
Then... his eyes fell back toward the carriage.
Dila.
Still asleep. Still hugging Fran close.
But now, faint wisps of blue light leaked out from her body like ethereal steam, flickering like stardust. The magic was quiet, but deep—dense, ancient, and almost immeasurable.
The masked man stepped back slowly, his breath visible in the cold air.
A single bead of sweat rolled down his temple.
Then, he smiled—maniacally.
"...My, my, my..." he whispered.
He looked at his hand, trembling slightly from the pressure.
"What a future queen we have here..."
Chuckling to himself, he stepped out of the carriage and walked into the moonlight. The silver rays painted his cloak in ghostly colors as he stopped and gazed up at the sky.
He raised his right hand to his face, covering his right eye with his palm and peering through the narrow slit between his fingers.
The moon looked down on him, bright and full.
"...She’s more powerful than you, my lord..."
He let out a low, twisted laugh.
"Hahahahahaha..."
And the forest watched in silence.
