Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 218: The Gala [ 5 ]
With those words, he tossed his chalice and watched as the Gala finally began. The nobles were unlucky this time, so the commoners managed to catch the chalice.
Though... a fight did break out.
Anyhow, I didn’t concern myself with that as I had more pressing matters to attend to.
Those matters being, dealing with Isabelle who was angrily stomping up the staircase, and then arrived in front of Alicia.
"Y-You idiot! Why’d you spike that one!?"
A bead of sweat ran down Alicia’s forehead.
"I wanted to be efficient."
"You were too efficient!"
"Woah, princess. It’s the first time I’ve seen you talk like this."
Melina let out a chuckle.
"Honestly? I like you better this way. You should consider removing that shitty filter of yours more frequently."
A disgusted look appeared on Isabelle’s face as she tried her best to compose herself.
Yet once she glanced down and noticed the emperor running his hands across his wives’ thighs, she couldn’t help but deflate like a balloon and fall to the ground.
"I’m sure it’s going to be okay. He has retainers, doesn’t he?" Clementine asked.
"No he doesn’t..." Isabelle replied.
Ah.
Yeah... this might go really badly then.
Still, I decided to just ignore her for the time being and glance down.
The moment I did, I spotted William in the corner of the Gala. He wasn’t trying to hide his presence. If anything, he was emitting enough energy for me to feel, and clearly, it seemed like he wanted to meet with me.
As for Merilyn and the other Telekinesis guy I saw, the two of them had met up. I couldn’t see them from here, but my Mystic Eyes told me they were in some room together.
I could use my Mystic Eyes and check it out directly, but... I risk revealing too much to William who’s been eyeing me like a hawk for a while now.
Welp.
I guess now’s as good of a time as any to start moving.
"Clementine, could you watch over these guys and the emperor? I’ll be going down to talk with William."
Clementine’s brows twitched as she glanced down at me. She grabbed my cheeks with both her hands and said:
"You’re going to meet the same guy who tortured you?"
"Yes. I have a theory about something, and I want to be certain."
She paused for a moment, then sighed.
"I’m guessing I can’t stop you?"
"You can’t, no."
With those words, I carefully lifted Clementine off my shoulders and set her down on the ground.
"Your role is a little more important than mine, so don’t worry about me. I’m not as weak as I used to be, and for reference, if anything bad were to happen, you’d be the first person I grab and run away."
"What about me, patron?" Alicia asked with puppy dog eyes.
Though, I just ignored her.
And so, after getting a nod from Clementine, I didn’t hesitate to turn into black lightning and vanish.
Yet not even a moment later, I reappeared at the bottom of the Gala, standing not too far away from the pillar where William had stood just a second ago.
But now, he was gone. Instead, I spotted him near the entrance of a hallway at the other end of the Gala. He moved way faster than I could see, but I already knew he was strong.
So without making it obvious, I straightened my posture and slowly approached him. The closer I got, the further he walked away from me, almost as though he was leading me somewhere.
And clearly he was, since once we were far enough from the rest of the people, he finally stopped in front of a seemingly ordinary room.
When I arrived in front of him, he just smiled and opened the door, revealing the inside. To my surprise, Merilyn sat on the bed, and by the window, there was the other person who could use Telekinesis.
Clearly, they had been expecting me.
"Finally. Took you too long enough," Merilyn complained.
"I gave him hints earlier, but he didn’t even react to my charms. You’re not impotent, are you, Amon?"
I narrowed my eyes at the succubus.
"I just don’t find you attractive."
Her brows twitched.
"I remember you being a bit more modest in the past, Amon. Did you perhaps forget that one time we bonded over the death of your parents?"
Hmm.
Did the previous Amon and Merilyn have that kind of relationship, or was she just trying to piss me off?
Either way, I ignored her and turned to William.
He was oddly relaxed, and even more so as he approached the dining chair and sat down. Afterwards, he glanced over at me and pointed toward the chair beside him.
I shook my head.
"I’ll stand."
"Suit yourself, I guess," he replied with a shrug.
And finally...
"I’ve heard some unnerving news from Alexius. I didn’t want to believe it at first, but as I stare at you now, you really have removed the fragment I’ve left in you, haven’t you?"
"..."
"If your idea of friendship or subordination was through messing with my mind, then I’m afraid our goals weren’t aligned at all from the very start," I said.
He let out a chuckle.
"Be that as it may, I don’t exactly blame you. If anything, I applaud you for managing such a feat, since in the span of our whole experimentation, you’re the only person who has not only maintained his sense of self, but also managed to avoid succumbing to the fragment we’ve implanted in you."
It didn’t make me feel any better, since at the moment, I felt like I was standing in a tiger’s den.
But going into this, I already knew that I’d be met with such treatment.
That’s why I came here prepared.
After all, Alexius had given me plenty of clues, and after pondering over it myself for the last week, I came to one very simple conclusion.
"You’re my retainer, aren’t you?"
A faint smile appeared on my face.
"The Demon King of Wrath."
