Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 240: The Meeting In Helheim [ 4 ]
The moment I stepped through into the portal, I felt like my whole body was wrapped in a thin gooey membrane, and with my eyes being forced shut, I felt like thousands of spiders began crawling all over my skin.
I tried to immediately fling them off with a bit of my energy, but I quickly realized that this weird gooey membrane was keeping my energy from escaping outside of my body.
So I had to endure my disgust, despite my stomach churning and vomit traveling up my throat. Eventually, the disgusting sensation passed, and when it did, I abruptly opened my eyes.
Alongside the faint whispers and words I couldn’t make out, the strong stench of roses immediately filled my nose, confusing me greatly. Not to mention, despite the disgust I had felt just a few seconds ago, I couldn’t help but be left in awe at the sight ahead.
The sky was a light red color, and in place of the usual sun that existed in the mortal realm, there was a pitch black moon. It was very large, and it didn’t seem that far away either. There were even thick clouds, both white, gray, and black, mixed together.
There were gothic buildings everywhere, all of which were built with the finest materials. Spiked towers, stained glass of every color, even some gargoyle statues and cool demonic motifs.
Even now, there were all kinds of demons either flying around or standing on scaffolding and working on building something.
It seemed like some kind of weird hobby for them, and clearly, with how there were thousands of such buildings, and I was a sucker for this kind of architecture, I really admired them. But then again... I kind of thought this was a lawless place?
No one was fighting. Everyone was dressed cordially, with both simple casual attire and even a little bit of suits, much like the ones in the Western continent. When I looked closer, I realized that most of the buildings down below were just clothing shops, and they were filled to the brim with demons who were shopping and trying out new clothes.
Just... what was this?
The lawless Demon Realm I’ve heard so much about, filled with death and destruction, is just a regular place filled with regular demons shopping, eating, and having fun?
"You seem surprised," Merilyn chimed in, then pointed at my face.
"Do remember to close your mouth next time, though. You might eat a fly."
"..."
Chuckling slightly, she approached one of the guards from before and gave her credentials. Unlike outside back in Tolor, this portal area was much more vast and moderated. The guards were also Marquess-rank demons, so they were nothing to scoff at either.
Anyhow, in just a few minutes, Merilyn got everything sorted, then gestured at me to follow her, so I did.
We descended the staircase, passing by several powerful demons who were going up. Seeing my horns, they gave me a nod. I felt like my horns held some kind of significance I wasn’t aware of.
Eventually, we reached the ground level. There were merchants running around, and even circus clowns parading their tricks. I even spotted a demonic monkey or two swinging across the roofs of the gothic buildings, holding onto gold coins and... someone’s eyeball?
"This is Felarune. It’s our very own port city," Merilyn said out of nowhere.
I raised a brow.
"I’m not exactly seeing any fish around. Can’t really be a port city without fish, you know?"
Instead of replying to me directly, she pointed at one of the merchant stands. There was a big ass bird creature on it, and it had its head lopped open.
Then she pointed at the sky. Specifically, she pointed at the mixed clouds.
I narrowed my eyes at the clouds, and to my surprise, I spotted multiple demons flying around with spears and all sorts of other weapons. They stabbed their weapons into the clouds, and occasionally, they managed to fetch out one of those birds.
"You fish in the sky...?"
"Indeed. It’s a delicacy, so it’s pretty expensive," Merilyn replied, then stopped.
In the next instant, a carriage pulled up right in front of her. Then a weak demon dressed in a butler outfit stepped out and opened the door for Merilyn before giving her a quick bow.
"Miss Merilyn, Sir Amon. I’ve prepared a carriage for you."
"That’s Sebastian. He’s one of my servants," she introduced him and climbed into the carriage.
Then she peeked her head out slightly and gestured for me to enter.
I looked around the city one last time, and after narrowing my eyes at Sebastian, I stepped into the carriage and sat opposite her.
To my surprise, Merilyn tried to stand up and switch seats, as if to get closer to me. But I quickly shut down her attempt by locking her into place with my Telekinesis.
The moment I did that, the same look of hatred as before returned to her face.
"Well, I was only trying to be nice. Don’t blame me for what’s about to happen."
Right as I opened my mouth to reply to her, a strangely loud high pitched noise rang out inside my ears. I moved my throat, and although I felt like some words were coming out... I couldn’t hear anything.
That was until the whispers that had previously been silent and unintelligible now resounded clearly.
Is this the human who’s been so happily killing us?
Hahaha... He seems so scrawny. I bet he doesn’t know what will happen once he arrives at the meeting.
I pray the Demon Kings set him straight...
"What is this?"
"The miasma."
She put a hand over her chin and glanced out the carriage window.
"Everyone has a soul. It’s just that whenever you kill a demon, their darkness and grudges corrupt your soul as well. You can’t hear them, but they’re always there, chatting behind your back."
"..."
Is that why my soul’s so dark?
No...
It’s probably because I massacred so many innocent people.
Despite that, with the voices of all the demons I killed ringing out in my ears, I knew that if I wanted to be in the best shape for the meeting... I needed Merilyn’s help to get rid of these voices.
