Chapter 92: 92 Battling the Senior, Part 05.

Cain grabbed the hilt and swung the blade several times, getting used to its weight. He pointed the blade forward, measuring its reach, then lowered it with a short exhale.

He glanced at the centre of the arena. His opponent was already waiting; the crimson-haired boy stood imposingly. The crimson-haired boy’s towering physique and commanding bearing drew admiring glances from the juniors.

The grey-haired boy shifted his attention sideways. He looked at the fox boy, staring at him for a brief moment and tried to gauge his emotion.

’Hmm, that fox guy seemed to have no interest in any of this. Well, I wonder how long he can maintain that composed face.’

He turned his attention away. Not wanting to entertain his thoughts with the fox any longer.

Cain lifted his feet, approaching the middle arena, which was several steps away from his current place. But an invisible force struck Cain’s back as if trying to push him down, to kneel. The oppressive aura exuding from Oliver’s body was so heavy that it made him grit his teeth.

The grey-haired boy parted his lips into a grin as he walked closer, then stood several meters apart from Oliver. Both fighters clenched the hilts of their weapons at the same time. Cain with his katana, and Oliver with a longsword. They raised their hands forward, preparing their stance, ready.

Cain’s gaze was straight, watching his opponent’s stance that resembled Abel’s old form, but crafted in perfection with no gap to exploit.

’As expected from a senior. His titles aren’t for show.’

He bent his knees forward, ready to inflict the first attack.

’Let’s see how he reacts.’

As the two faced each other, a man stepped forward in between. His sharp gaze alternated between the two students facing each other. He raised a hand, then swung it down while opening his stiff mouth.

"Begin!"

With that as a cue, Dosh saw Cain’s body blurred into shadows. He approached with lightning-like speed, then swung his blade in a vertical slash.

A collision sparked, followed by a high-pitched sound that reverberated across the still room. Their blades locked, but the stalemate was illusory.

Oliver put more strength into his arms and stepped forward, trying to break Cain’s stance. He began to push Cain’s katana aside, then twist his sword edge to face the opponent before him. His attack was swift, easily cutting through Cain’s body as it split in two.

Dosh heard several gasps mingling in the air, coming from other cadets behind him. However, he didn’t react because Oliver hit nothing but thin air.

Cain’s figure flickered and dispersed into nothingness. His real body leapt back and readied his stance. At that moment, the man’s vision narrowed when he saw Cain change his stance into a defensive one.

"Hmm, here I go."

Oliver raised his longsword anew, ready to launch a heavy attack at his opponent.

"Come."

Meanwhile, his junior didn’t show a slight ripple in his expression. His ability to endure pressure and his calm judgment in finding the best way to defeat his opponent put a grin on the General’s lips.

Cain took a deep breath, trying to calm his beating heart. He exhaled in one go, only to find the figure of his opponent disappear in a blink.

A looming shadow reappears on his right, and Cain shifts his attention to it. His opponent retracted his sword after a thrust.

Oliver pushed his sword forward, yet Cain predicted it as he deflected its trajectory from missing his neck. A vein popped out on his back palm, holding on to his opponent’s heavy thrust.

The grey-haired boy widened his eyes when he saw Oliver’s lips parted into a smirk. A chill seeped through his spine as he felt the weight behind his opponent’s sword increase.

Cain gritted his teeth. He admitted he was losing in terms of raw power.

’What about speed then?’

He loosened the tension in his grip and dodged the horizontal slash by bending his knees to lower his stance further. Oliver stopped his swing midway, then reversed it in a lightning-quick moment.

’You kidding me!?’

The boy gritted his teeth as he kicked the floor, leaping backwards. However, Oliver, who missed his target, began to chase him.

Oliver began raining down attacks on Cain. A flurry of silver slashes mercilessly cut through the air like a gale, shutting down any means for Cain’s escape. His attack was like a torrential storm that relentlessly aimed at Cain’s vital point.

The sheer force of the attacks made the very air in the arena seem to whimper. That shows just how deadly Oliver’s attacks were.

’I can see the flow!’

However, in the face of an incoming storm. Instead of cowering, Cain glided through the incoming attack as if floating in the air. His feet blurred, demonstrating the true essence of his swordsmanship of ’Flow.’

He sidestepped to dodge the incoming downward slash, then took a step back to avoid the following upper slash aiming at his right armpit.

Everyone in the room gawked at their battle. The clashes between them sent shockwaves through their consciousness, jolting them into realizing a wall they must overcome to reach the same summit.

The cadets bit their lips, lamenting in their own powerlessness as they kept staring at the battle of titans in the arena.

Away from the attention of any other, a lone blonde boy gulped his saliva to moisten his parched throat. Red veins spread in Abel’s golden eyes. He had forgotten to blink. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

However, a high-pitched sound when two steel clashed snapped his thoughts back, then a searing agony pierced his retina, causing tears to swell in his eyes.

’Damn it. I’m still far away.’

Abel cursed internally, sniffling a sob.

Not only him, but the other three gaze straight forward. They couldn’t help but once again be reminded of what kind of monster their leader was. Each time he faced a battle, the gap between them and him stretched far away into the horizon.

If things kept repeating like this, when would Abel, Rika, Peter, and Louise be able to stand at his side as equals?

Will that day ever come?

Only time will tell.

Cain narrowed his gaze as Oliver attempted to shift his attack mid-swing, prompting a feint. But it was meaningless before him. He stomped the floor hard as he moved forward, blade ready in his hands.

True to his prediction, Oliver stopped his attack and then thrust the tip of his blade, aiming at Cain’s chest. The boy deflected the attack, letting his katana edge slide through his opponent’s longsword.

At that moment, Oliver’s lips parted into a cunning sneer. His following words caused a chill to creep down Cain’s spine.

"Got you."

Cain’s vision was distorted. Oliver’s grip on his sword changed. Instead of pressing the thrust, he released a concentrated burst of his crimson aura point-blank.

A thick crimson aura exploded from Oliver’s body. The bloody colour rose to the sky before it crashed down on Cain like tidal waves, shutting his brain momentarily.

’An aura attack!?’

He felt a mountain pressed against his left side, coming from his opponent’s swiping strike. His brain was paralysed by the sudden clash of an invisible aura, but his trained body remained unaffected.

The boy concentrated all his strength in his arms, trying to block Oliver’s attack. Thanks to that, Cain lost his feet and felt a sense of weightlessness that pushed away his body and flew several metres ahead of the middle arena.

Seeing the scene, several cadets let out a deafening gasp. They glanced at Cain, who lay on the floor. The boy showed no signs of waking up.

When the General raised a hand to put a stop to the spar, Cain’s body jolted upward as he stood still before the stunned crowds.

"Man, that was a heavy one."

The grey-haired boy twisted his neck while massaging his stiff left shoulder. A place where he received his opponent’s last strike.

Cain let out a short breath and noticed the silence. He swept his gaze toward the spectators, then at Dosh, who planned to raise his hand.

"This isn’t over yet."
