Chapter 17: Chapter 17:Questing [2]
Within a couple of minutes, I was already back in front of the adventurer's guild building, this time with four small purple orbs in my hand.
Pushing open the doors, I instinctively pinched my nose and walked forward, spotting a familiar receptionist.
Halting mid-way, I redirected my attention to the large bulletin board, attempting to find another quest.

"Help Required: Need an escort through the forest to gather berries."
"Rank Required: E-rank or higher. Full Party of five people recommended."
"Reward: 5 Silver Coins."
Sighing, I shook my head and muttered as I walked toward Liana, who had spotted me and was now waiting in the distance.
"Can't take that one..."
Reaching out my palm, revealing the dark purple pearls, I sighed and asked.
"Is this enough for me to rank up...?"
Instantly suppressing my hopes, Liana chuckled and replied.
"Not even close, but here's your reward."
As Liana handed me one silver coin, she seemed to recall something as her face lit up, and she immediately asked.
"If you'd like, the adventurer's guild can buy those pearls off you fo-"
Interrupting her mid-sentence, I grabbed the single silver coin and answered.
"I'll be absorbing them myself."
Once entering the Glaive, it was almost impossible to leave unless there was a vacation or club activity.
So, I needed to gather as many mana orbs as possible right now, as once I enter Glaive, the only way to acquire them would be to overpay for them from the academy's shop.
Instantly returning to her slumped posture and bored expression, Liana groaned before waving me off.
Clutching my hoodie, which was covering my two horns, I scanned the board for a couple of seconds before turning around.
And behind me, in a slightly more isolated part of the bar, another smaller bulletin board stood.
"Bounty Board"

"Wanted Dead / Alive: Kratos, the crazy berserker"
"Reward: 10 silver coins."

"Whereabouts: Last seen around Town Gates"
Capturing or disposing of criminals was another way to make money through the adventurer's guild.
A much faster way at that.
And, to top it off, there were no rank requirements.
However, it came with a cost.
Hunting humans was far riskier than hunting magical beasts.
Not because magical beasts were weaker but because humans are highly intelligent.
Sighing, I shook my head and grabbed the last poster on the board.
Instantly, I could feel the gazes of people in the bar slowly start to shift toward me as I walked away from the bounty board with a poster in hand.
However, my posture remained unfazed until I reached Liana, who was staring at me with a dumbfounded expression.
Shaking her head, Liana rested her palm against her forehead and exhaustedly asked.
"Let me guess this straight...you just got into Glaive, the best academy in the world...but now you're trying to become a bounty hunter!?"
"You're willing to risk your life right now, even though such a promising future awaits you?"
"All for what...a measly seven silver coins? You know parents pay thousands of those just to get their children into Glaive?"
"When have juniors gotten so stupid...?"
Shaking my head, I simply pointed at the reward and replied.
"I need money."
Pointing at me, Liana instantly answered.
"Then do something else! For all you know, this "Kratos" could be a D-rank or above. There's no information whatsoever on him."
"Just because there's no requirement doesn't mean you should do it."
As I was about to open my mouth to respond, Liana instantly cut me off and said.
"If it's about the portal fee to the capital city, I'll loan the money for you. I'm heading there anyway."
Sliding the poster onto her desk, I shrugged my shoulders and said.
"I'm alright."
She seemed to be a decent person despite her laid-back and naturally aggressive demeanor.
The elder-sister type.
So, I didn't want to connect her to me in any way.
If it was found out I was a demon and Liana had given me money, she would probably be executed for treason.
It would probably be like that for anyone I talked to.
Anyway, it wasn't like I was going into this mission blind.
After all, it had been Kratos who had lured the troll into attacking the carriage that the protagonist was escorting.
In the original story, it was mentioned that some random adventurers found him a couple of days after the incident, so his bounty was free for the taking.
All I would have to do is wait for tomorrow and then just camp out in the forest and wait for Kratos to make his move.
Flicking the silver coin into the air, I asked.
"Can I rent a room for the night with this?"
Happy, probably because I wasn't immediately going out to find Kratos, Liana pointed at the stairs behind her and took the coin.
"Room 7 on the left."
"Take some time and think about it. If you're sure about taking the bounty tomorrow, talk to me then."
Then, without waiting for my response, Liana grabbed the poster and pushed me toward the stairs, forcing me up.
Reaching my door, I pushed it open with the key Liana had handed me before looking up at the small one-bedroom room with a single bathroom.
I could stretch my arms out and touch both the walls to my right and left, and the ceiling was only a few inches above my head.
"...cramped."
Hopefully, Glaive dorms would be better.
Peering through the window above my head, I admired the orange sky for a moment before pushing forward the curtains.
I probably wasn't getting any sleep tonight.
How could I?
Walking into the bathroom and staring at myself in the mirror, I hesitated for a moment before taking off my cloak.
In the reflection appeared a shirtless male, clearly starved with visible bones, with overgrown brown-amber hair.
Was this me now?
Who was I?
Was I the person who had massacred hundreds of people back in the cathedral?
Or...was I a simple high-school student with aspirations of getting into the number one college in the area?
