Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling-Chapter 76: Suspicious Again
"It was originally two pounds, but I took back most of it. There’s probably only half a pound left." Patrick Thorne picked up Tang Xiaonan. This made him taller than Jacqueline Spann, giving him a more intimidating presence.
"Did you hear that? Your mom, for ten cents... COUGH COUGH..."
Tang Xiaonan had spoken too quickly and choked on her own spit. After a few coughs, her imposing manner completely vanished. Clayton Xavier had been quite angry, but seeing her like this, he couldn’t stay mad. In fact, he found it a little funny.
’This little girl did have a point. It was a fact that Phoenix Golding had only spent ten cents on the meat. Even if it was only half a pound, she still got the better end of the deal. Her reason for seeking out Felix Thorne really wasn’t so innocent.’
Clayton Xavier hadn’t thought it through before because he was angry. Now that he had calmed down and considered it, he started to have doubts about Phoenix Golding. He then recalled that his own mother was against him being with Jacqueline Spann and had expressed great dissatisfaction with Phoenix Golding. With that, Clayton Xavier’s suspicions grew even stronger.
’Perhaps Phoenix Golding isn’t as proper as she appears on the surface?’
Tang Xiaonan was coughing her lungs out, her face turning red. A frantic Patrick Thorne thumped her on the back with loud THUMPS. Goldie Thorne decided to get in on the action, and the uncle-nephew duo thumped her together. Poor Tang Xiaonan couldn’t even speak. ’If these two oafs keep patting me,’ she thought, ’I can forget about going to the city. They might as well just dig a grave for me on the spot.’
Adrian Hawthorne saw that something was wrong and rescued Tang Xiaonan from the uncle-nephew duo.
Having recovered, Tang Xiaonan clung tightly to Adrian Hawthorne’s neck, gasping for air. It took her a long moment to catch her breath before she subconsciously muttered, "Oh, good lord..."
The corner of Adrian Hawthorne’s mouth twitched. ’This chubby girl talks just like a grown-up. How interesting.’
Besides, the chubby girl had a pleasant, milky scent, a bit like malted milk. It smelled surprisingly good. Adrian Hawthorne couldn’t help but take a few sniffs. Suddenly, he was struck by a strange impulse—he wanted to take a bite out of her. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
The thought startled even himself, and he quickly suppressed the crazy idea. But he forgot a crucial truth: the more you suppress something, the more intense it becomes. Perhaps one day he wouldn’t be able to hold it back, and it would simply erupt.
A hint of a smile appeared in Clayton Xavier’s eyes. Standing beside him, Jacqueline Spann saw it and secretly gritted her teeth. Her resentment began to extend even to Tang Xiaonan. ’Even though I know this has nothing to do with her, I never liked this chubby girl, and I like her even less now.’
"Getting half a pound of meat for ten cents—isn’t that taking advantage?"
Tang Xiaonan hadn’t forgotten the matter. As soon as she caught her breath, she started her argument again. ’I’ve never even met Phoenix Golding and don’t know the first thing about her, but just based on this, she’s a total bitch. And she’s after my dad! Hmph. Definitely not a good person.’
Jacqueline Spann said through gritted teeth, "Just because your brother says it was ten cents, does that make it true? My mother wouldn’t take advantage of your family."
"As if your mom hasn’t taken advantage of our family enough? Every piece of meat your family has eaten for years, your mom earned it selling her ass!" Patrick Thorne’s anger flared, and he started rolling up his sleeves again. He certainly wasn’t above hitting a woman.
"Brother."
Tang Xiaonan glared at him. Patrick Thorne resentfully stopped. ’He’d wait and beat this little bitch later, when his sister wasn’t around.’
"My brother doesn’t lie. If he says it was ten cents, it was ten cents. Jacqueline, you should go home and ask your mother."
"I will ask. And I also believe my mother would not take advantage of anyone."
Jacqueline Spann’s expression turned icy; she had no desire to deal with these thugs any longer. What upset her more was that Adrian Hawthorne hadn’t said a single word in her defense from beginning to end. ’And here I thought we had some kind of bond from studying together,’ she thought bitterly. ’Heh... I guess I was just flattering myself.’
