Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Let’s Get Drunk!

The emotions that suddenly overwhelmed him were like a spiral of twisted, atrocious needles stabbing deep into his being. He brought a hand to his forehead in distress; it was already the second time this had happened to him.

’The same thing again. The first time I wasn’t this lucid...’

It couldn’t be a coincidence. It was obvious that this was related to the first dream.

’An ash statue on the hill and now this... These are definitely the memories of the body I took to transmigrate, but why a statue? Why this person named Arthur out of all the other statues? The blank testament and the locket must be part of his belongings, but there are still too many things I don’t understand.’

He stood up and looked out the window.

’Then there’s this system tattooed on my arm. I’ve read enough web novels to suspect there’s some higher entity behind all of this. However, it’s useless to ask questions when I don’t have any clues to follow. The system is still the biggest mystery if I set aside the reason for my transmigration and the ash body I’m possessing.’

Clearing the questions from his mind, he grabbed the coat from the bed and put it back on.

His stomach growled hungrily.

’Of course, I almost forgot that if I don’t eat, I die—I’ve gone several days without eating because of that stupid Banshee. I’d better go downstairs and see what there is to eat. With the money I have, I should be able to buy something decent. Maybe it’ll even get rid of the bad taste that dream left in my mouth.’

He left the room, locking the door behind him, and headed to the first floor. The voices of people became noticeable at this hour, filled with laughter and everyday conversations.

Though to Mitsuki, they sounded like the same old hell.

The lights from magical stones shone dim and yellow, illuminating the lively scene. The restaurant looked far more alive than when he had arrived, as many of the different races that could fit through the door were now gathered inside.

He shyly searched for Ellegaard and Jeanne, but neither of them were nearby. There weren’t any tables available for a single person either.

’There are too many people... I think it’ll be better to eat tomorrow.’

He turned toward the stairs, afraid he might have to interact with another human who wasn’t the princess or the elf, but that girl, Lulú, stopped him.

"Oh, Mitsuki. Were you looking for something?"

Mitsuki flinched, as if speaking to her disgusted him. It wasn’t like that—it was simply a physical reaction born from the rejection he had developed toward people during his life as a shut-in.

"Oh, well, I..." he said. He didn’t turn around to look at her, but he was honest enough to say what he wanted without sounding rude. "I was hungry..."

"I see. There aren’t any tables right now. If you’re interested in sitting with other people, I could..."

Lulú stopped speaking when she noticed Mitsuki’s discomfort. How could she not? The guy was trembling like spaghetti in boiling water. Anyone could tell what was going on.

"Is it possible that... you like being alone?"

’Finally someone noticed! Is this girl a fortune teller or something? I think she’s the nicest person I’ve met so far...’

He nodded a little more firmly, trying to hide the obvious. Lulú then touched his shoulder with her fingers. Mitsuki had no choice but to turn around, though he still looked at the floor.

"If you’d like, I can bring your food to your room." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"That would be great..." he murmured.

Lulú nodded with a small smile.

"Then let me give you a menu and you can choose whatever you want."

Mitsuki wanted to drop to his knees before her. In this ridiculous, crazy world, she was the first normal person he had encountered. No—more than that, she was a saint!

"Sorry, but this guy is coming with us," a voice suddenly said behind Mitsuki. It was Jeanne, who grabbed his coat with a playful smile. "There’s a more fun place where we can break things."

"You’re not breaking anything, Jeanne, or you’ll run out of money," Ellegaard added as she came down the stairs.

"Huh? What?"

Confused, Mitsuki looked at the girls. Desperate, he extended his hand toward Lulú, but before he could even touch her shoulder, Jeanne dragged him out of the inn.

"Whaaaaaat?!"

The people present watched the scene with expressions of confusion—and some amusement. Of course, everyone already knew these girls.

Everyone in the city...

Lulú regretted not doing anything. She lowered her head and said:

"I’m sorry, Mitsuki, but even I can’t stop them."

The sky was dark, but the streets were surprisingly well-lit by mana stones—and much clearer than before. There were still people walking back and forth, though far fewer than at midday.

’Thinking about it again, maybe I really should continue my journey alone...’

Mitsuki could feel the flames of anger burning in his heart as he walked behind these girls. He had lost the chance to meet someone who didn’t treat him like an idiot.

"Let’s go to the bar. There’s a lot of meat and beer there—we can eat until we’re stuffed! And it’s cheap!"

"You’re not drinking a single drop of beer, princess. I don’t want you killing someone tonight," said Ellegaard.

"Come on. You like drinking too."

"But I know how to do it. You don’t."

’They’re still the same as ever, it seems. But she said meat, right? That part interests me.’

When it came to good food, a juicy, well-seasoned steak was always welcome. Just imagining it made his mouth water. Still, Mitsuki had a very difficult task ahead of him.

Jeanne walked beside him and said:

"You don’t drink beer?"

"Me? No, never. I don’t like the taste."

"The taste? Worm, what the hell is wrong with you? You don’t drink beer because it tastes good—though a lot of people do like it—you drink it to get drunk and talk with people."

’Right, something I’m completely terrible at. I’d rather leave.’

"Don’t worry, Mitsuki, I’ll take care of you. So you can try drinking as much beer as you want."

"Okay...?"

Mitsuki felt a chill run down his spine.

’Why do I feel like this could end very badly?’

Just the pessimistic thoughts of a fearful antisocial person. It was just a bar and a restaurant—of course nothing could go wrong!

When they arrived at the establishment, he realized his thoughts had been completely misguided. The place was packed with adventurers of all kinds—drunk, laughing, and smashing things.

Mitsuki resigned himself.

’Miss from the inn... help me...’

Even among all the bad, something good might still happen.

You just had to have faith.
