Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Beyond Estimation [III]

Just as the notification blinked before his vision, a stream of golden energy surged from the surroundings before drilling into the cocoon in an overwhelming manner, enveloping him once more.

Outside, Cedric and the figures standing behind him stared blankly. One of them soon voiced the thought.

"He has awakened?" It was more of a statement than a question, born from watching the phenomenon that unfolded when one awakened their class.

Taking a side glance, Lyra’s eyes widened as her grip over the two ice spears tightened. More ice energy drilled into them, unnoticed.

If she had to compare them, the waves of golden energy were ten times more than when she awakened. It was like comparing a small stream to a raging ocean.

The thought would have been depressing for anyone else, but it only heightened her excitement as she held her stance.

This meant he would be stronger. And that was enough for her, for now. Cedric and the others didn’t seem as relaxed as she was. Beads of sweat already dripped down their faces.

Asher, the C-rank healer among the group, frowned while watching microfractures race across the dark cocoon before it slowly began to fracture.

If they had known Cedric’s intentions, they wouldn’t have followed him. Hell, even forming a group didn’t seem like a good idea anymore.

Sure, strength and potential were important, qualities brought by the A-rank talent, but without intelligence to back it up, it became the rope one used to hang oneself.

Inside, Ulric groaned softly as streams of golden energy wrapped around his body, while information about this classless path unfolded at the back of his mind.

And as it did, a shit-eating grin stretched across his face. And with good reason. Beyond the awakening of this class, he could feel deeper changes unraveling inside his body.

His body was repeatedly being strengthened to hold destructive power, which only fueled his restlessness.

Before, he was confident that his talent, Monarch of Darkness, could only fight opponents five levels above him. Now he could feel that gap widening in real time.

As for his flesh, he had not tested it yet, but he suspected it already possessed the power to fight peak F-rank beings. Now, with this additional energy, his confidence and desire to fight beasts one-on-one only grew.

More than that, something stupendously wondrous was unfolding. The universal system that awakened after one triggered their class was now thrumming deep inside him.

As it did, his corruption system flared instantly, absorbing it as both systems merged.

Barely a few seconds later, a sudden spark of energy rippled across his body in a resetting wave.

When it faded, his new system interface appeared before him.

A stream of notifications followed as the experience from the beasts he killed flowed into him.

Staring at the cascade of notifications, Ulric blanked out for a moment as the full magnitude of this classless path dawned on him.

Normally, if one chose a warrior class, a new skill related to their path would awaken, and when they leveled up, most attributes would be channeled into physique, constitution, and strength.

Mages followed a similar path, though most of their attributes flowed into intelligence to boost magical control and damage.

Assassins favored agility for nimbleness, while archers focused on spirit for concentration.

But with this classless path, Ulric realized he wasn’t limited..He could follow any class.

He froze at the thought as an excited chuckle slipped from his lips.

The strength of a warrior, the nimbleness of an assassin, the spirit of an archer, and the destructive range of a mage, all packed into one frame.

Even more overwhelming was its potential.

Warriors could only equip weapons and skills from their class, along with compatible skills from others.

But he wasn’t restricted by any of that.

This was the beginning of his path as a one-man army.

Unable to contain himself anymore, the chuckle morphed into outright maniacal laughter.

As the cocoon finally shattered, the figure of a handsome, green-robed youth came into sight.

A chilling laughter echoed from him, accompanied by an equally chilling aura seeping naturally from his body.

A few seconds passed in this state as everyone turned to stare at Ulric, an unimaginable feeling flaring in their eyes.

If Ulric had already been a monster before his class awakening, they did not know what he was now.

Just the aura he emanated froze Cedric and the group behind him in terror. Lyra was the only one seemingly unaffected.

Slowly regaining his composure, Ulric raised his head. When his eyes met Cedric’s, his expression soured as a cold whisper parted from his lips.

"I was wondering where you ran off to."

As his words fell, the pressure pressing against them seemed to multiply. Fear unlike anything they had ever felt took root deep inside them.

Cedric’s mouth opened and closed repeatedly. Ulric had already been stronger before he awakened. This was like adding wings to a tiger.

"I... I..." Cedric stuttered, trying to force the words out before failing repeatedly.

Seeing his distressed state, the cold smile on Ulric’s face widened, turning slightly more sinister.

"Now that I see you up close, my hand suddenly feels... twitchy."

Remembering the last slap he received, Cedric’s face twitched repeatedly.

He could see a film of darkness slowly surging across Ulric’s body, the darkness seeping out naturally.

They had seen what it could do to level 5 beasts. They didn’t need to experience it themselves to know it was lethal.

Looking at Ulric’s face only filled them with the sensation of death.

Using every bit of strength he had, Cedric whimpered before bolting away into the distance, his lackeys scurrying behind him.

Sucking back his aura, Ulric’s distasteful expression vanished as his attention shifted to Lyra, who was now circling him.

Finally stopping in front of him, she asked, her voice burning with curiosity.

"So... which class did you choose?" she asked, eyes still flickering across his frame.

Before she could delve deeper into her thoughts, an arm wrapped around her waist, eliciting a surprised squeal.

"How about I show you instead," Ulric murmured, heading into one of the dungeon tunnels.

He had many questions as well. Time to answer them all.
