Transmigration: From Farmer To Empress-Chapter 1977 - 1985: Millennium Festival (Part 5)
Such a man, Nangong Yi would rather have his daughter never marry than to give her to him as his wife.
The Great Prince of Liaodan had met Mingzhu and became madly enamored, vowing passionately that if Mingzhu agreed to marry him, he would immediately send away all his concubines and live only with her.
However, his promise couldn’t compare to Chao’er, who had never been tainted by any woman. Not to mention that Mingzhu looked down on him, even Cai Wei and Nangong Yi would never consider marrying their daughter to him.
When the news of Mingzhu and Chao’er’s engagement spread, the Great Prince flew into a rage. He angrily swore towards the South, promising that once he became the Great Kahn, he would destroy the Great Jin and the Qing Luo Kingdom for daring to ignore him and stealing his beloved.
Saknu found out about it, and he whipped his son fiercely, warning him that as long as the Empress Mu of the Great Jin Nation was around, he should never consider making a move on the Great Jin Nation or the Qing Luo Kingdom, not even the Xianbei Empire. Otherwise, he wouldn’t know how he had died!
The Great Prince was a man of blood and vigor, and despite being whipped until his skin was torn, he didn’t utter a sound, gritting his teeth and enduring it. Forced by circumstances, he had to agree to his father’s demands, but in his heart, he hated the Great Jin and the Qing Luo, secretly resolving that he must snatch Mingzhu back one day.
That’s another story, not mentioned...
In the Waterside Pavilion
All the imperial family relatives were greeting each other, and the princes from the fiefs had all left their fiefs to come to the Capital to celebrate the Empress Dowager’s birthday. Typically, each Prince reports to the Capital once every three years, but this year was special, so they all came to the Capital, sitting at dozens of tables.
Besides the Princes, there were also numerous Royal Consorts, Dukes, Eldest Princesses, and Princesses, not to mention Cai Wei’s maternal family, filling the verandas on both sides of the Waterside Pavilion.
When Cai Wei and Nangong Yi entered, all except Consort Yao stood up, respectfully greeting Cai Wei and Nangong Yi.
Cai Wei laughed and said, "Today is a family feast, no need for formalities. Just do whatever makes you comfortable."
Afterwards, everyone thanked her and took their seats.
Cai Wei dressed exceptionally elegantly today. She wore a bright yellow wide-sleeved phoenician robe with chrysanthemum patterns, the hem adorned with glazed small beads, gently touching the ground as it rustled softly. Large blooming chrysanthemums were meticulously embroidered with fine gold threads, and delicate silver threads outlined intricate contours. Underneath was a horse face skirt made of vivid red osmanthus-patterned brocade silk, each inch like gold, with vibrant colors resembling heavenly clouds, rich and elegant. The flower patterns were thick and graceful, noble and luxurious, the colors intensely solemn. The gold-threaded patterns, silent when still, would momentarily shine magnificently when moved, dazzling the senses.
As she walked, with the swaying of her garments, her graceful and curvy figure became evident, her skin fairer than snow and tactile as if it could break with a breath.
Though she was already thirty, none could see Cai Wei’s true age. Nourished by space aura, her appearance remained akin to a youthful maiden of eighteen or nineteen years old, youthful yet charming, making others envious.
Nangong Yi’s appearance hadn’t changed much in over ten years, except he had become a bit more composed and commanding with the passing years. They sat hand in hand on the central throne, announcing the start of the feast.
Then, various mountain and sea delicacies were served in flowing succession, and Nangong Yi personally served dishes and poured liquor for Cai Wei, taking care of her meticulously. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Besides him, there was another man present who cared for his wife like Nangong Yi—this was Nangong Yi’s younger brother, King Jing.
King Jing had married Cai Wei’s younger sister Mu Caidie several months ago. The husband and wife, both tender and refined, were deeply in love after marriage, almost inseparable, reminiscent of the early days of Nangong Yi and Cai Wei. Those who saw them remarked how well-matched they were, truly a pair made in heaven.
Now, Xiao Die was already over a month pregnant, having conceived her first child of King Jing on the way to the Capital for her sister’s birthday celebration. King Jing cherished this child greatly and was particularly cautious with Die’er, fearing any mistake.
Lady Du and Mu Zhongqing were delighted to see their three sons-in-law being so considerate of their daughters. Mu Zhongqing sat steadily on the chair, engaging in conversation with Mo Yuanshan while observing the interactions between his daughters and sons-in-law, contented with how well his daughters were being cared for.
Only, the second son-in-law wasn’t seated with Fei’er.
Sitting with Fei’er was their three-year-old youngest son, Mo Chengzu, who was Fei’er’s fourth child, with the previous three being daughters. Having finally had a son, the people in the mansion pampered him tremendously as if he was a golden egg.
Mo Ziqi and Fei’er were manageable, but the Old Duke Guo and Mo Yuanshan doted on the children excessively. Whatever the little boy wanted, even if it was the moon, his grandfather and great-grandfather would try to get it for him. Today, during the court banquet, the little boy insisted on sitting with his mother. Arguably, it shouldn’t have been allowed, but an intense look from the Old Duchess and Lady Wu forced Mo Ziqi to relent.
Sitting next to Mo Ziqi was Wen’er, already over twenty years old.
Now he was a tall and handsome young man, who loved to behave maturely even as a child, and grown up, he displayed that trait even more, always with a stern face, appearing more authoritative and unapproachable than Second Sister’s husband, the great general.
In truth, he hadn’t obtained any scholarly honor yet, as Mu Zhongqing didn’t want his sons to enter officialdom too early, to avoid accusations of nepotism. Even when Nangong Yi wanted to appoint him as Prime Minister, he refused, only accepting a second-ranked Grand Protector position, which held no real power, though Mu Zhongqing didn’t mind.
As long as his children were well, it didn’t matter if he was an official or not, never pursuing fame and fortune, indifferent to the rank of his position.
Lady Du had already become a second-ranked Madam but continued to maintain her humble and courteous nature, never boasting about her son-in-law being the emperor. The higher Mu Family’s status rose, the more humble she became, fearing being labeled as an arrogant nobody.
Currently, Lady Du sat by the side of Old Madame Bai of Marquis Jian’an, inquiring meticulously about the ages and dispositions of the marquis’ several granddaughters.
Wen’er was already over twenty but hadn’t been engaged yet. He was not in a hurry, either, secretly observing those proposing marriage. If they didn’t suit him, regardless of the Miss’s noble background or beauty, he would steadfastly refuse.
