Chapter 915: Chapter 916 Toxic Fatherly Love 48

The stubborn streak flared up again—what’s the big deal about studying? Fine, then study more! As long as you’re alive, there’s no end to striving.

Of course, it wasn’t that over the top. After Zhang Yu got her driver’s license, the first thing she did was pick up her new car.

Don’t ask why the car delivery was so fast. If you must know, Li Cuifen had complete confidence in her.

As the salesperson handled the paperwork, they couldn’t help but marvel internally. Still a university student, and she’s already buying a car? The gap between people’s lives is indeed vast.

Zhang Yu didn’t have time to worry about what the salesperson thought. She was too excited about owning the first car of her life.

"Once we pick up the car, Grandma, let’s head straight to the hot springs." Zhang Yu had been toying with this idea for a while. But the hot springs were in the neighboring province, and getting there by cab was inconvenient.

Now that her family owned a car, there was no reason not to go and enjoy themselves.

Wang Lei was just as excited. "When the time comes, we’ll switch, and I’ll take the wheel."

"Sure." With someone willing to drive, Zhang Yu was more than happy to oblige.

The paperwork was finished quickly, and given it was the weekend, they were given a temporary license plate for now.

As the salesperson came over to explain the details, they overheard Zhang Yu and Wang Lei discussing their big plans to drive to the hot springs right away.

The salesperson was stunned. "Um, the insurance hasn’t been processed yet."

"We’ll be careful," Zhang Yu assured them, confident there wouldn’t be any issues.

The salesperson shook their head in resignation, glancing at the two young women. When it comes to kids from wealthy families, there’s no point in reasoning with them once they’ve made up their minds.

And with that, they watched as the car drove off the dealership lot and merged into the traffic.

A colleague noticed the salesperson staring at the road. "What’s up? Not heading home yet?"

"That girl just got her license a few days ago, and now she’s planning to drive to a hot spring." The salesperson turned back toward the break room.

If not for helping Zhang Yu with the car paperwork, they’d have clocked out a long time ago.

Another staff member was equally surprised. "But didn’t they look pretty plain in how they dressed?"

"Yeah, and from what I gathered, the car was bought so their kid could use it for practice after getting her license."

"A brand-new car worth over a hundred thousand, just for practice?" The staff member was floored. Working in the dealership and earning commissions plus year-end bonuses, a six-figure income was already considered high.

But these people? They casually said the car was for practice.

The salesperson nodded bitterly. "Clearly, they don’t care. They’re even driving straight to celebrate at the hot springs right after picking up the car."

"And just a moment ago, they were talking about having a fancy lake-fish feast to celebrate too."

The other staff member sighed again. "You see, people really are different."

"There are more wealthy folks nowadays. In the future, we’ll probably meet more people like that."

Both were convinced Li Cuifen was some incredibly wealthy old lady. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so lavish.

What they didn’t know, though, was that Li Cuifen wasn’t actually rich. She just wanted to give Zhang Yu the best she could.

Despite Wang Lei’s earlier bravado about driving, once the freshly delivered car hit the road and she saw the bustling traffic, she became nervous.

"Little Yu, your driving is so steady." She’d thought Zhang Yu would be flustered, but to her surprise, Zhang Yu appeared calm and in control.

"As long as your mindset is steady, your driving will be steady," Zhang Yu said smugly. "Alright, let’s hurry so we can still catch the second round of lake-fish."

Lake-fish dishes were highly sought after. Zhang Yu had thought booking a week in advance would be enough, yet they only managed to snag reservations for the second seating.

They wouldn’t get to watch the sunset over the lake, but it didn’t matter. No sunset? No problem. As long as there was good food, everything would be fine.

"If it tastes as good as they say, we’ll book earlier next time to catch the sunset too." As for the cost? That wasn’t an issue.

Since discovering that many people approached Zhang Yu for commissioned writing and her earnings were enough to cover expenses, Li Cuifen had stopped being thrifty.

Getting to enjoy good food while earning money? Li Cuifen believed this was an opportunity not to be missed.

Wang Lei, meanwhile, was overcome with envy. While she indulged in eating, drinking, and having fun, Zhang Yu was busy turning her expenses into opportunities to earn more.

"Don’t just be envious—you can start practicing too," Zhang Yu suggested, noting that Wang Lei didn’t seem particularly motivated by the idea of making money.

It was different for her. Even when she wanted to take it easy, something inside her always pushed her toward making money.

"Do you think I can do it?" Wang Lei said, surprised. "I always thought I wasn’t cut out for that."

"That’s just because you haven’t felt the drive to try. Once you truly want it, why wouldn’t you be able to do it?"

"Back in our sophomore year, who would’ve thought we’d make it into F University?"

"You’ll only know what you’re capable of if you give it your all."

"When we were learning to drive, remember how the others were so much better than us? But in the end, we not only got our licenses, but our scores were better than theirs."

"Have a little more confidence in yourself. We can do this." Zhang Yu showered Wang Lei with encouragement.

"For this trip, just write about it. It doesn’t matter if no publisher is interested—you can post it online."

Post it online? Wang Lei was intrigued but then remembered the nasty comments on Zhang Yu’s personal blog. Some remarks had been vile.

"If you don’t want to read the comments, then don’t. Just ignore them—you don’t have to care." Zhang Yu knew the hateful, brainless remarks on her own blog had spooked the girl.

"Ignore the comments?" Wang Lei recalled how Zhang Yu often liked certain comments, even though she never responded to hateful ones. Clearly, Zhang Yu saw them too.

"Of course. They have the right to comment, and we have the right not to respond."

"I don’t have some weird hobby of letting people insult me, then grinning and asking for more."

"The internet is a strange place. You’ll never know if the person on the other end is human, a ghost, or even a demon."

"So why bother caring?"

"The more attention you give them, the happier and more excited they get."

"If you don’t respond, eventually, they’ll lose interest."

"It’s your platform, so you make the rules." Zhang Yu offered some practical blogging advice.

Wang Lei listened intently, wishing she had paper and a pen to take notes.

Seeing Wang Lei’s serious expression, Zhang Yu almost laughed. "If you’d put in this much effort in high school, you might’ve been able to get into Q University or B University, not just F University."

A look of horror spread across Wang Lei’s face. "Please, no. I know my limits. Getting into F University was only because you pushed me."

"If I’d relied solely on myself, I’d probably have barely made it into any university at all."

"Getting into F University is already a huge deal for me. No one else in my family, besides my parents, has ever gotten in!"

Wang Lei was thrilled. "If I tell my relatives that I’ve even had articles published in newspapers, I wonder how jealous they’d be."

"Yes, I need to work harder."

"I want to show those idiots that even as a girl, I can be better than them."

Wang Lei regained her drive to push herself harder. Was merely getting into F University enough?

Of course not. She wanted them to know they’d never stand a chance of surpassing her, not in this lifetime.
