Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 160: The weather Isn’t Good
"I don’t think Teacher is coming today..." Jun Li’s voice broke the quiet.
They had been waiting for nearly two hours.
The sparring grounds, once vast and imposing, now felt... still.
The three of them sat atop the carved sigil at the center, idly passing time with half-hearted stories that had long since lost their charm.
Jun Li’s lips were slightly pursed, caught between worry and impatience.
Ningyan exhaled softly and pushed himself to his feet.
"Perhaps we should head back," he said, brushing invisible dust from his robes.
Jun Li stood as well, clearly tempted.
But Jun Sheng didn’t move.
"We can wait a little longer," he insisted, frowning. "Teacher has never been late. Not once."
Ningyan glanced up.
The sky had darkened considerably.
Heavy clouds churned above, thick and low, as if the heavens themselves were holding their breath.
Rain was coming soon.
He looked back at Jun Li.
She sighed, then turned to her brother.
"If something happened, Mama will know," she said, crossing her arms. "Stand up, A-Sheng."
Jun Sheng hesitated... then rose reluctantly. "I wanted to go flying," he muttered.
Jun Li shot him a look. "In this weather? And with Grandfather returning? Everyone’s busy."
Jun Sheng clicked his tongue, clearly dissatisfied.
Ningyan watched them for a moment then smiled faintly.
"You’re right," he said, looking back at the sky. "The weather isn’t good..."
He paused. Then his gaze lowered slightly, something shifting within it.
"...but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it fun."
Jun Sheng blinked. Jun Li tilted her head.
Before either of them could ask, Ningyan stepped back. A faint, ominous violet glow flickered to life in his eyes.
Then it spread.
Qi unfurled from him like a living thing, coiling around his body in slow, luminous currents. The air shifted, humming softly as the energy thickened.
The wind stirred. His robes fluttered. And then with a sudden flare of light, large, brilliant wings burst from his back.
White as fresh snowfall, yet edged faintly with a soft violet sheen, each feather catching the dim light like polished jade.
The glow dimmed, settling into a quiet radiance around him.
The storm above seemed to hesitate.
Jun Sheng froze.
"So pretty!" Jun Li’s eyes shone as she stepped closer, practically vibrating with excitement. She circled Ningyan slowly, gaze fixed on the wings, her hands lifting slightly then stopping.
She didn’t dare touch them. She felt as if they might shatter if she did.
Jun Sheng moved to the other side, blinking in open amazement.
"They’re huge..." he said. "Yunyi-jie never shows us hers."
That dimmed Ningyan’s smile, if only slightly.
"Yunyi?" he asked. "She’s here?"
Jun Sheng nodded. "Mm. She doesn’t let us see her wings."
He glanced back at Ningyan’s, eyes brightening again. "But yours are definitely prettier."
Ningyan let out a quiet breath. So she was in the palace.
Haoxuan had kept his word... keeping her away from him.
Before he could think further, a crack of thunder split the sky.
Ningyan flinched slightly.
The children, however, laughed.
The heavens opened almost immediately after, rain pouring down in heavy sheets, cold and sudden.
In an instant, Ningyan’s wings dissolved back into his body, the glow fading like embers.
"Come on," he said quickly, reaching for them. "Let’s go."
They ran across the slick stone, laughter trailing behind them as the rain caught up anyway, soaking the edges of their robes, dampening their hair.
By the time they reached the covered halls, they were already half-wet.
Jun Li shook her sleeves, giggling.
Jun Sheng pushed his damp hair back with a grin.
"You should come with us for lessons every day, Phoenix-uncle," Jun Li said, eyes sparkling. "I’m sure Teacher will let you stay!"
Ningyan laughed softly and crouched in front of them. "I will."
They beamed at him.
Ningyan’s smile softened, something quieter settling in his chest.
Hai Miao.
He wondered how the little one was doing.
Hai Miao would have liked them... would have fit right in with Jun Sheng and Jun Li.
The thought made his chest tighten faintly.
Perhaps he should ask Meishan to send a letter to Yishu.
He could do it himself but... Ningyan hesitated.
Yishu had never quite liked him. She might not answer him.
"A-Sheng. A-Li." A smooth, clear feminine voice called from behind them.
The children turned immediately.
Ningyan followed their gaze.
A woman stood at the end of the corridor. Her robes were a soft shade of azure, lighter than the children’s, flowing elegantly around her form. Long dark-blue hair cascaded down her back, adorned with delicate golden ornaments that caught the dim light. Curved dragon horns framed her head, refined and regal, and her grey, reptilian eyes rested on Ningyan with quiet sharpness.
Then they widened slightly. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Oh?" she said, a hint of surprise slipping into her tone, followed by a small, amused smile. "So it’s you."
Before Ningyan could respond,
"Mama!" The children rushed to her, voices tumbling over each other.
"Teacher didn’t come!"
"So Phoenix-uncle stayed with us!"
"His wings are so beautiful!"
"Mama, he’s so pretty. Please tell him not to leave Uncle Haoxuan!"
Ningyan froze.
Jun Sheng’s last words hit harder than the rest.
Heat crept up his neck, flushing his cheeks.
The dragon beast woman’s curious gaze shifted back to him.
"Are you planning to leave my brother, Su Ningyan?" she asked. Her voice was gentle. Too gentle.
Ningyan blinked, caught off guard. "I... that is—"
She laughed. Soft at first then brighter, covering her lips as if amused by his fluster.
Even the children joined in, giggling.
"Go on," she said, waving them off lightly. "Your father has returned. He brought gifts."
That was all it took.
The children lit up and rushed off, their laughter echoing down the corridor. "Bye, Phoenix-uncle!"
Their footsteps faded quickly and silence soon followed.
Ningyan found himself alone with her. Jun Haoxuan’s sister.
She studied him openly now as though weighing something unseen.
"You’ll catch a chill if you remain like that," she said, stepping closer, her gaze flicking briefly to his damp robes.
Ningyan rubbed the back of his neck, a little awkward. "I’ll be fine."
She stopped in front of him. Close enough that he could clearly see the depth in her eyes. Close enough that her presence felt... heavier.
"You will have to be," she said calmly. "Because my father has returned to the palace."
She took another step closer, her voice lowering slightly. "And when he sees you..."
Her lips curved faintly. "...he will not be pleased."
"...In fact," she added, almost lightly, "he may very well try to kill you."
