Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 54: Who Are You?
"Someone like you shouldn’t exist."
Ningyan’s eyes widened. "What are you talking about?!"
Lanyin didn’t answer. She thrust both hands forward.
A heavy wave of white energy slammed toward him.
Ningyan reacted on instinct. A translucent force field burst into existence around his body, absorbing the first impact but the second wave shattered it instantly.
He staggered back, chest heaving, staring at her in shock. "What are you doing? Stop!"
Lanyin lowered her hands. Then an alive, violent, pulsing white glow engulfed her entire body.
The ground trembled beneath Ningyan’s feet.
Panic clawed up his throat.
Does she want to kill me? How did this escalate so fast?
He didn’t wait to find out.
With a powerful flap of his wings, Ningyan shot upward into the sky.
The moment he did, Lanyin raised her hand again and fired a massive wave of energy straight at him.
Ningyan roared, releasing white-gold flames in retaliation.
The two forces collided midair, grinding against each other with deafening pressure but Lanyin was stronger.
She grit her teeth, frowned, and flicked her hand.
The blast intensified.
It tore straight through Ningyan’s attack, slammed into his body, and shattered his wings into scattered light.
He plummeted.
Just before hitting the ground, he forcefully gathered his spiritual energy, cushioning the fall and landing on his feet breathing hard, heart pounding, staring at Lanyin in disbelief.
She looked... normal now. Calm. Still. As if she hadn’t just tried to annihilate him.
Ningyan clenched his fists and stormed toward her. "What was that for?!"
Lanyin looked up at him, eyes sharp. "How did you ascend to Stage Four so quickly?"
He froze. "Stage Four?" His eyes widened. "I’m not in Stage Four. I’m in Stage Two."
Lanyin shook her head. She grabbed his wrist and pressed two glowing fingers against it.
Her brows furrowed. "How can someone go from a damaged core... to controlling qi like this?"
Understanding struck Ningyan all at once. "Oh."
Lanyin released him. "You’ve officially entered Beast Awakening."
She paused. "But your core has already begun condensing ahead of time. There was never any need for stabilization. It was already stable."
Ningyan’s breath caught. Stage Four...?
He was actually at the fourth level of beast cultivation? He could fight. He could wield qi.
A smile spread across his face despite himself.
Lanyin watched him carefully. "Are you a pureblood?"
"Yes."
She nodded slowly. "If you continue this way... You might actually become a divine beast."
Ningyan’s heart skipped. "I..."
A divine beast.
That would place him in the same league as the male leads. If not higher. And if being pureblood only amplified that path, then this was an advantage.
Lanyin kept staring at him, her gaze sharp and probing, as though she were trying to peel him apart layer by layer and read his thoughts.
"Who are you?" she suddenly asked, her tone hardened.
Ningyan didn’t like that tone.
He pulled his hand from her grasp and met her eyes calmly. "Who do you think I am?"
Lanyin scoffed, shaking her head. "You really don’t get it, do you?"
Ningyan tilted his head. "Get what?"
"There are no records, anywhere, of someone repairing a damaged core," Lanyin said, disbelief etched into every word. "It has never happened. And yet you... you not only healed your core, you ascended all the way to Spirit Mastery."
"You’re a young prodigy yourself, aren’t you?" Ningyan sighed. "Already at Saint Beast level, standing alongside divine beast princes. So why shouldn’t I have strength that surprises beasts too? Am I not allowed to break what’s considered impossible? To exist beyond what people understand?"
Lanyin stared at him.
He held her gaze, wondering what calculations were forming behind her eyes. For a moment, he thought she would turn away and leave.
Instead, she stayed.
Snowflakes clung to her lashes as she brushed them aside and let out a long breath. Then, slowly, her lips curved into a small smile. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"I’m sorry," she said. "It’s just... shocking."
Ningyan nodded. "I understand."
She relaxed visibly. "You’ll need records from your family to further boost your cultivation. You could try the imperial library at the Celestial Beast Academy but I doubt you’ll find much." She paused. "It isn’t the Phoenix Clan, after all."
Ningyan bit down on his lower lip. "I’ll have to return home sooner or later," he muttered.
Lanyin tapped his arm gently, smiling. "I can come with you after we deal with what’s happening here."
Ningyan couldn’t help but smile back. His thoughts immediately drifted to the phoenix hidden within Jun Haoxuan’s manor.
"Let’s check the imperial library first," he said.
Lanyin nodded.
Together, they returned to the manor, heading straight for the chamber.
Qinghe still lay unconscious on the bed.
Wuhen sat beside her, his hand resting on her forehead, red-gold light glowing softly beneath his touch as he watched over her in silence.
The moment Ningyan and Lanyin entered, they were both looked at.
"Why were you two trying to kill each other?" Wuhen asked, a teasing smile curving his lips. "I thought you liked each other."
"We weren’t fighting," Ningyan said quickly.
"I was just checking something," Lanyin added.
"You wanted to confirm that he ascended to Spirit Mastery?" Wuhen asked casually, withdrawing his hand from Qinghe’s head.
Ningyan’s eyes widened. "You knew?"
"Mm." Wuhen nodded as he rose to his feet. "Keep an eye on her, Lanyin."
Lanyin nodded and moved to sit beside Qinghe. "Always." She gently brushed Qinghe’s hair aside, her movements careful and tender.
Ningyan watched her for a moment. How worried she looked before shifting his gaze to Wuhen. He was still staring at his sister with a solemn expression before finally turning to Ningyan.
"Let’s leave them be," he said.
They left the chamber together and headed toward their own, only to find Xuanli pacing back and forth, his face pale with worry. The moment he spotted Wuhen, he rushed over, breathing hard.
"Your Highness," he said urgently. "Something has happened."
He looked as though he had seen a ghost.
"What—" Wuhen began, but his words were cut short as a thick, dark wave of energy suddenly swept through the manor, then beyond it... spreading across the entire clan.
All the lanterns in Sunland City were extinguished at once. Darkness swallowed everything.
No one spoke. No one moved.
They waited.
Then, from far in the distance, a piercing shriek tore through the silence.
Ningyan’s heart skipped a beat. What in the Three Realms was going on?!
