Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 79: I Am Not a Hero (2)
Ningyan slowly turned his head to look at Yunyi.
She was breathing hard, tears clinging to her lashes. Somehow, she looked more shaken than he did. As if she were the one who had been struck.
"Listen to me!" she snapped, gripping his cheeks firmly, forcing his attention to her face.
But Ningyan was already looking at her.
"I know you’ve been through hell, A-Yan," she said, voice trembling. "And I wasn’t there. No one was there to protect you. I understand why you want peace, who wouldn’t?"
Tears finally spilled, sliding down her cheeks. Ningyan’s lips parted, but he didn’t interrupt. He let her speak.
"But look at reality." Her grip tightened. "There is no peace. Not for you. Not for me. Not for the beast kings, or the princes, or the... princesses." Her voice broke. "You need to erase that expectation completely. Stop believing there’s a quiet ending waiting for you."
Ningyan inhaled sharply.
"Stop dreaming of a peaceful life in the mountains, or the forest, or by the sea," she continued. "If you cling to that fantasy, you will only end in tragedy."
His pupils dilated.
"Jun Haoxuan told me that someone is trying to kill you. I know it’s the Su’s." Yunyi said quietly. "That should have been enough to wake you up. There is no peace for a Han."
Ningyan stiffened. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"A-Yan, you were born of two phoenix beasts. One of them pure-blooded," she went on. "That makes you the rightful heir of the phoenix bloodline. They know this. And they want you erased." Her voice sharpened. "The Han family once ruled a divine beast clan. We may be scattered, but we still exist."
She leaned closer. "Focus on clearing obstacles. Focus on becoming great, not hiding. Stop thinking of running away, A-Yan."
"I.,," Ningyan’s voice came out low, almost fragile. "What if I’m hiding to avoid a tragic fate?"
Yunyi released his face, her expression heavy with sorrow.
"That choice is yours," she said softly. "But tragedy will still come if you hide. Hiding is stagnation."
Ningyan exhaled slowly. Her words had rewired something deep inside him.
"I don’t know what to do," he admitted.
Yunyi sniffed and quickly wiped the tears from her eyes. "That’s why I’m here."
She took the small white marble jar, opened it, and tipped a glowing red pill into her palm. Holding it out, she said, "This is a soul amplifier. Use it once you’re ready to break into the seventh stage. It will accelerate the process."
Ningyan stared.
"There aren’t many left in the world," Yunyi continued. "Shengyi gave it to me but it’s yours. You need it more than I do."
She returned the pill to the jar, sealed it, and placed it into Ningyan’s hands. He accepted it carefully and gave her a watery smile.
"Thank you, Ayi."
Yunyi smiled back and lifted her hand to his cheek. "I’m sorry if I came on too strong," she said softly. "I just want you to be safe and great. I want beasts to tremble when they hear your name."
She brushed the hair from his forehead, only for it to fall back into place. Her smile softened.
"These past days you’ve spent with me have pulled me out of my darkest moments," she said quietly. "I’m grateful for that."
Ningyan smiled. "I’m glad."
Yunyi sniffed again, withdrawing her hand and wiping her eyes. "Oh! I almost forgot. The spirit mate chain."
Ningyan’s heart skipped. "What about it?"
"I researched it during my recent trip to Earth City," she said quickly. "There is a way to reverse the bond."
His eyes widened. "Really?"
"Yes." She nodded. "Yan Wuhen would be the one to feel the strain of distance. And if the separation becomes too great..." She hesitated only briefly. "He would be the one to die."
She turned away, already rummaging through her drawers.
But Ningyan’s excitement had vanished.
The thought alone made his chest tighten painfully. He didn’t know if it was the mate chain reacting but he hated the feeling that came with imagining Wuhen’s death.
He’d felt something similar with Wuyin speaking about his death and had managed to shove it aside.
This, however, he couldn’t ignore.
Watching Yunyi search with complete focus, Ningyan slowly rubbed at his neck and slipped the soul amplifier into his robe.
"I don’t think I want that, Ayi," he said quietly.
Yunyi didn’t stop searching. "I can’t find it either."
She finally stilled and looked at him, her sunset-hued orange eyes soft. "I’ll tell you when I do."
She walked toward him and waved her hand. The faint glow coating the walls dissolved and vanished.
Ningyan smiled. "Okay."
Yunyi returned the smile, pleased.
Warmth rose suddenly in his chest and before he could think better of it, he stepped forward and hugged her.
She accepted immediately, closing her eyes and rubbing his back as she whispered, "You’re doing great, A-Yan."
Ningyan closed his eyes too. "Thank you."
They pulled apart, and Ningyan left the chamber, exiting the manor entirely. He descended the mountain steps and followed the stone paths threading between the buildings, straight toward Wuhen’s manor.
His expression was thoughtful, fingers brushing absently over his neck and cheek. Moonlight washed over his hair as the wind tugged at his robes, making them sway against his body.
He replayed everything Yunyi had said.
Yes, he had been trying to reach a happy ending without all the male leads. Without becoming a villain like the Ningyan in the book. But he could still do that... right? He didn’t have to be a villain or a hero.
...Right?
A sudden prickle crawled up his spine.
Someone was watching him.
Ningyan stopped and turned sharply but there was no one there. His eyes flared with vivid white-gold light.
"Who’s there?" he snapped, anger bleeding into his voice. "Come out. Stop being a coward."
"That’s disrespectful," a female voice suddenly came from behind him.
Ningyan barely had time to react before a glowing red spear sliced through the air where his head had just been. He twisted aside, light on his feet, landing smoothly as wind whipped through his hair and robes.
She stood before him dangerously.
She wore flowing whitish-green robes, dark hair threaded with silver. A red mask covered her face, revealing only glowing pulsing crimson eyes. The spear rested in her grip, humming faintly with corrupted energy.
Ningyan frowned.
Her aura was wrong, uncoordinated. She should have been an earth butterfly, but the weapon, the mask, the shape of her ears... They told a different story.
Demon qi Corruption.
He tilted his head slightly and asked calmly, "You’re Mei Ren, aren’t you?"
