Transmigration To Magus World-Chapter 134 - 135: The Decision Maker
The City Lord’s Mansion occupied the prime real estate of the inner city, located near the eastern district.
The Lord of Great Plain City wasn’t an innate powerhouse like Morning star Magus but certainly wasn’t a simple figure either. His invitation to Aizen tonight was undoubtedly to discuss the distribution of resources and territories within the city.
No matter how dominant the Heavenly Demon Clan had become in Great Plain City, it remained subject to the oversight of the City Lord’s Mansion and the constraints of the imperial government. As long as the Skywind Dynasty stood, this unwritten rule persisted. The government held the legitimate authority, and all other factions—no matter how rampant—had to show deference. To challenge or supersede the government’s authority would be tantamount to rebellion.
Even though the Skywind Dynasty was in decline, no faction dared to be the first to openly rebel.
Aizen naturally planned to attend tonight’s banquet. However, this gathering was unlikely to be a simple discussion.
Seated in the main hall, Aizen listened intently to the detailed reports from Johnny and the others.
Currently, the entire Great Plain City was under his control. The World Society had taken over the resources and territories once belonging to two rival factions. While the outer city was another matter, in the inner city, every street vendor and shop now paid a portion of their earnings to the World Society. Even the docks and their bustling trade routes were now supervised by disciples of the Heavenly Demon Clan.
These dock positions were highly lucrative. By slightly adjusting prices or deducting a portion of goods with minor defects, vast amounts of resources could be accumulated.
Of course, all these operations were conducted under the supervision of the Eastern and Western Bureaus. A significant portion of the income was ultimately handed over to the government.
The Heavenly Demon Clan handled the dirty work, while the government enjoyed the benefits without lifting a finger.
Previously, when multiple factions shared the city, they operated under a similar arrangement. The government, as the legitimate authority, collected taxes from the populace but refrained from directly seizing more resources. Instead, it relied on these covert collaborations to extract additional wealth, a system that could only be described as collusion between officials and bandits.
During the height of the Skywind Dynasty, such practices would have been difficult to sustain.
In a major city like Great Plain, the existence of factions was expected, but their blatant collusion with the government was not. The funds illicitly obtained by the government through these arrangements often vanished without a trace. Were they enriching the imperial treasury or simply lining the pockets of corrupt officials?
Aizen was well aware of the truth. The current young emperor was naive and ignorant, unable to manage state affairs. The court was dominated by sycophants and corrupt officials. Behind these treacherous ministers stood ancient noble families—parasitic tumors on the empire.
These families used their influence to infiltrate every region, forming protective alliances with local factions to exploit the people’s labor and resources.
The current City Lord of Great Plain, Darwin, was likely a representative propped up by one of these prominent clans.
As Aizen toyed with two blood-red coral beads in his hand, he waved dismissively. Johnny, Vincent, and the others wisely withdrew.
For now, Aizen reigned supreme in Great plain City. He was the undisputed decision-maker for the Heavenly Demon Clan within these walls.
Though most of the city’s resources had to be handed over to the government, the small fraction that remained was more than enough to sustain his cultivation needs.
The two blood coral beads in his hands were rare treasures, each over several hundred years old and worth a fortune. Holding them and playing with them like iron balls in his palms promoted blood circulation and overall health.
These were mere trinkets.
There was also the century-old whale oil imported from overseas nations. Consuming it daily nourished the internal organs and accelerated the cultivation process for Sorcery artists at the Refining Organs stage.
Aizen took a sip of tea, closed his eyes slightly, and let the fragrant aroma permeate his senses. The tea’s essence coursed through his body, bringing a sense of total relaxation. His pores opened, his skin glistened with a fine layer of sweat, and his entire being felt rejuvenated.
This tea was no ordinary beverage—it was among the rare goods intercepted from overseas trade shipments.
The tea was named "Horizon of the Sea and Sky."
Its slender leaves resembled tiny spindles. When sipped, it carried a faint taste of the ocean breeze, a rare delicacy renowned for its detoxifying and purifying properties.
"Wealth, companions, methods, and land... The path of martial cultivation requires these four pillars, after all. ’Poor scholars, rich warriors’—even the grandest cultivation cannot escape this truth," Aizen reflected with a faint sigh.
Although he had the system’s support, the resources within it required active completion of missions to earn activity points for exchange. To sit idly while a wealth of resources poured into his coffers for cultivation—what a dreamlike situation this was!
However, Aizen was well aware that his current position was stable only because both sides of the city’s power struggle found him useful. The day someone more capable emerged, or if he faced a setback in cultivation, his position would become precarious.
Additionally, most of the city’s resources, after being handed to the government, had to be further allocated to the upper echelons of his Clan. The portion he could personally retain was meager.
Aizen was far from satisfied with the status quo.
An ambitious person never rests content with fleeting power. Yet a wise individual understands the importance of taking on only as much as they can handle. Fools, driven by greed, overreach and meet their downfall.
His mind sank into the system’s interface.
At present, he had 22,300 task Wisdom points. This sizable reserve of points could be used to significantly enhance his strength.
500 points could be exchanged for an intermediate treasure chest.3,000 points could be used for an advanced treasure chest.
Advanced treasure chests typically contained items of the fifth grade or higher, although there was a slim chance of obtaining trivial or useless items.
Aizen had already decided to exchange for a new internal cultivation technique.
While the Star Absorption Technique had swiftly elevated him to the rank of an internal energy expert, its limitations became apparent as he progressed further. The technique grew increasingly difficult to use for breaking through to the Magus Sorcery Stage..
Remaining stuck in the postnatal realm was not an option.
Currently, Aizen was at the Organs Refining Stage, having unlocked 68 acupoints in his body. The channels of the Foot Meridian and the Hand Meridian were completely opened. However, further opening of acupoints and meridians with his current internal energy required painstaking effort over time.
Aizen had devised a bold plan: to exploit the Star Absorption Technique once more to absorb the internal energy equivalent to ten years of cultivation.
This would give him thirty years’ worth of internal energy, allowing him to swiftly open additional acupoints and meridians.
Once the Twelve Standard Meridians and hundred acupoints were fully opened, he would disperse his current cultivation and start anew with a superior technique. By consuming a Great Return Pill, he would cultivate ten years of pure internal energy and attempt to break through the Spiritual Meridians to ascend to the innate realm.
This was the most efficient route he had calculated for achieving the breakthrough.
No one else could replicate his method—not without the Star Absorption Technique or a miraculous elixir like the Great Return Pill.
However, before executing this plan, Aizen hoped to try his luck and see if the advanced treasure chest could yield an internal cultivation technique on par with or superior to the Star Absorption Technique.
