Chapter 25: Shadowed Trust: The Dance of Blades and Darts

Blade, fork, thrust.

Three types of weapons, wielded by three figures who moved as swiftly as arrows released from a bowstring. These three men were like three sharp arrows already in flight, and their target was none other than Aizen.

Yet, no matter how fast they were, someone else was even faster.

Both Aizen and Lilith surpassed them in speed.

Aizen was the first to act, his sword already flashing into motion, but he wasn’t the fastest. His sword wasn’t the quickest weapon in play.

What was fast were the flying darts.

Lethal, agile, yet utterly ruthless flying darts!

The darts that flew from Lilith’s hands were faster than arrows. They were not only fast but also precisely aimed and incredibly deadly.

The moment the three shadowy assassins launched their attack, Lilith’s hands had already blurred into motion, a dance so rapid that her movements seemed like the frenzied fluttering of butterfly wings.

Before the blade, fork, or thrust could come within three inches of Aizen, the expressions of the three assassins—known as the Three Shades of Malevolence—had already darkened. They tried to change their attacks, shifting to defend themselves, but it was too late.

All three felt a sharp, searing pain in their wrists. The pain spread quickly, accompanied by a numbing sensation that only grew more intense.

Lilith’s darts were not just fast; they were precise, and their tips were coated in a venom that worked with brutal efficiency. The moment the Three Shades fell prey to her deadly strikes, Aizen’s Blade point was already two inches from Leo’s body.

Two short inches, but it was enough to turn the tide.

Leo had barely managed to draw his sword, and Aizen had already pressed his attack. His strikes were not only swift but filled with lethal intent, each blow aiming to end the battle as quickly as possible. His blade gleamed coldly, and his eyes burned with determination.

Most people, when facing an ambush by three such fearsome assassins, would hesitate or change their approach, using defensive maneuvers to guard themselves. But Aizen was different. He did not falter, nor did he doubt. He trusted completely in Lilith, leaving his back exposed without a shred of worry.

This level of trust was almost unthinkable, especially within the ranks of the Demonic Clan. Who among them would dare leave their life in another’s hands? Trust was a fragile thing in their world, something that could be shattered in an instant. To expose one’s back to another was akin to handing over one’s life.

Yet, paradoxically, Aizen’s trust made sense. No one betrays for no reason, just as no one gives their trust without cause. In a world as cutthroat as theirs, everything was built upon mutual benefit, often with the faintest hint of emotion mixed in. But beyond that, personal gain was all that mattered.

Aizen and Lilith’s partnership was built on such a foundation—an alliance that could hold, so long as the balance of interests remained intact.

Leo, for his part, had not anticipated Aizen’s boldness. He was caught off-guard, forced into a defensive stance almost immediately. He had not expected Aizen to attack so fiercely, so decisively, and with such fearlessness. The ferocity of Aizen’s strikes was something that could not be easily countered.

Clang!

Aizen’s sword was met by Leo’s hastily drawn blade. The two weapons collided with a harsh, ringing sound. Leo’s sword trembled, bending under the force of the blow. But Leo did not relent. With a twist of his wrist, his blade slid and thrust forward once more, aiming directly at Leo’s chest.

At that moment, a series of sharp, whistling sounds pierced the air—more flying darts, slicing through the chaos.

The Three Shades desperately tried to block, their hands moving frantically. But the poison had already taken effect. Their wrists were stiff, their movements sluggish, and they could no longer wield their weapons with precision.

In the blink of an eye, the three assassins were struck by multiple darts. Lilith’s mastery was undeniable; she was among the top ten disciples in the Western Courtyard of the Demonic Clan, and she was more than a match for the Three Shades. Without the hindrance of the poison, they might have held their ground a little longer, maybe even put up a decent fight. But now, they were helpless.

The battle between Aizen and Leo intensified. With the Three Shades neutralized, Aizen had more room to focus on his main adversary. The clash of their blades became faster, each strike more dangerous than the last. Their close-quarters combat left no room for error.

Aizen was not yet fighting at his full strength. He hadn’t even used his signature technique, the Star-Absorbing Art. His inner power was only partially unleashed. Leo’s agility and movement skills were exceptional. Even though Aizen had the upper hand, Leo’s defense was flawless, his footwork and swordplay working in perfect harmony. No matter how fast Aizen attacked, he couldn’t land a decisive blow.

Leo’s reputation as the top disciple of the Western Courtyard was well earned.

Jiang Cheng knew he couldn’t afford to rush. He held back his true strength, aware that a reckless gamble could backfire. He had hidden trump cards, but he was sure Huang Zirui did as well.

To win this battle, Aizen had to be patient. He had to make Leo underestimate him, to lure him into making a mistake. Yet, at the same time, he couldn’t underestimate Leo. His opponent’s cunning was as dangerous as his sword.

Aizen was waiting—for Leo to reveal his hand, to play his trump card. Patience was a virtue in this deadly game. He could afford to wait, but Leo could not. The longer the fight dragged on, the more the scales tipped in Aizen’s favor. Once Lilith finished off the Three Shades, she would join Aizen, and Leo would be overwhelmed.

Leo knew this too. He couldn’t wait. His cold gaze hardened as he decided to make his move. He had studied Jiang Cheng’s techniques, searching for flaws, and he had found one.

A very deliberate flaw.

Aizen had allowed this weakness to appear twice. Both times, Leo had hesitated, biding his time. He was like a predator lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

When Aizen’s sword swung upward for the third time, leo’s eyes flashed with a deadly light. He had been waiting for this exact moment. His killing intent exploded as he lunged forward, executing his most powerful attack.

With a roar, Leo’s sword shot out in a rapid series of thrusts. Three consecutive strikes, each one faster than the last. The sword radiated a deadly energy, propelled by Leo’s inner strength. It cut through the air like a streaking comet, aimed directly at Aizen’s heart.

This was the Triple Death-Thrust, a lethal move from the Death-Chasing Wind Blade technique of the Demonic Clan. It was a move designed to kill, a trump card that Leo had saved for this moment.

Leo’s upward strike was forced down. Leo’s sword thrust relentlessly toward his heart. The blade gleamed like a bolt of lightning, ready to pierce his flesh.

But Leo had already lost.

In the instant he revealed his killing move, Aizen’s trap was sprung. Aizen had waited for this, holding back his power until now.

The Neck-Encircling Style was a deceptive technique, and its true essence lay in the word "encircle." As Leo’s sword lunged for his heart, Aizen’s upward strike transformed. His blade looped around, wrapping around Leo’s sword in a fluid, unstoppable motion.

No one who had seen Aizen fight could fully grasp the intricacies of this move. Aizen certainly didn’t. The moment Aizen’s Blade looped around his, Leo felt his weapon being deflected.

If Leo’s thrust had been ordinary, it might have held steady. But Aizen had poured all his inner strength into this moment. His sword vibrated with power, and the force of the looped strike was overwhelming.Leo’s sword shuddered violently, nearly slipping from his grip.

And in that split second, Aizen’s counterattack came crashing down.
